Meet ‘Prowler’: NYC’s Newest Citizen Superhero

Meet Prowler: NYCs Newest Citizen Superhero

Superheroes usually like to keep their real identities hidden, but one Brooklyn woman is taking off her mask and telling the entire world who she is.

Nicole Abramovici is “Prowler,” a 31-year-old businesswoman by day who dons a costume at night to do her part to save the world, one homeless person and abandoned animal at a time.

And, as she revealed to the New York Post, she’s not alone — she’s part of a group of real-life heroes who slip on masks and capes to do charity work.

“I dress up because I’m part of this group called Superheroes Anonymous,” Abramovici said. “The costume draws awareness to the cause, and it’s exciting and people dig it.”

Her costume consists of black spandex, clawed gloves and a cat mask over her eyes. She told the Post she goes out and finds homeless people around Manhattan, giving them clothes and toiletries.

The costume is crucial, she said.

“When they see me in the costume, they know I’m not going to rob them,” she said. “They know I’m doing something more lighthearted.”

According to the Daily Mail, she came up with her superhero persona after seeing an article about male superheroes patrolling the city.

“I am one of the very few females active as a real-life superhero,” she said, though she patrols with male superheroes for her own safety.

And she explained the story behind her alter-ego: “A prowler usually is a negative force, someone who creeps around at night, looking to see if they can burgle, or like a skulking cat. But I wanted to make the prowler a force for good.”

The co-owner of a home-organizing business called Genius Organizing, the told the Post she’s never gotten a bad reception.

“They laugh. They don’t care,” she told the Post. “No one is like, ‘Oh, my God! I’m so shocked.’ They’re just interested in getting stuff from us.”

Abramovici isn’t the first real-life superhero to be featured on The Blaze: Recall Seattle’s “Phoenix Jones” who dressed up to fight crime. He was arrested on investigation for assault but quickly bailed out and was back on the street, though lost his job working with autistic kids as a result of his arrest.

Why don’t all the (super heroes) get together, start a business and give the homeless jobs instead.
The reason why is because most homeless DON’T WANT JOBS!! they’re happy the way they are.

Who says she has to be a liberal to do this? And yeah, homeless in this country isn’t as bad as it is in other countries: but not all homeless want to be homeless. I’ve met a few homeless people who had just plain lost everything and were looking for work. Several of them still managed to get their hands on a real old car to live in; but you can‘t tell me you’d enjoy living in a car. If she’s just helping, then why not let her? There’s nothing wrong with charity; just forced charity.

@Ironman there is a big difference between poor and homeless.

You should be praising this woman, not making fun of her. She is doing what she believes in and not asking the government to do it or the tax payers to fund her activities. If all of us took her lead and put our time and money into helping others in the way we believe in, the government would lose a lot of its power.

I‘m going to have to side with the fruitcake super hero’s on this. They are active in their community instead of sitting on their ass at night ripping people on the intarwebz.

They are helping the “least of there brothers” even if they choose to live that way, and trust me, many do, I speak from experience. Lived in my Mercury Monteray for one entire winter because I couldn’t find work during the Carter Administration.

The uniformed super hero who brought me canned goods down by the river bottoms for me to cook over my campfire was a hero to me. He was a Gamewarden. He didn’t kick me out as was his right for illegally camping, illegal fire without a permit.

A lot of stones being cast at glass houses, but hey, I’m not judging.

There is a lot of stuff like this going on these days. For instance, cosplay where adults dress up and get together to compliment each other on their outfits and then there are the ‘superhero’ types who are subdivided into three subgroups
    1. Honest people who want to do random acts of kindness and make it fun
    2. People who want attention
    3. Pure lunatics
When the movement first started it wasn’t as full of crazy people.

It sad though that people think they have to dress up in a costume to help people, it used to be that a persons reputation preceded them wherever they went and when people saw you, they knew you were not going to rob them because they trusted you before. We’ve allowed ourselves to be co-opted by the Hollywood image makers and character takers of this world. They continue to tell kids that only superheroes can make change and they are the only ones with goodness inside. This display makes perfect sense in a fallen world. Its all about her and what shes doing for others with a crusade mentality along with trumpet in mouth. Government and local goverment are throwing millions at homeless issues along with local churches, who is she to get in the way of that and make her own following.

I use to go to Comic book Cons in my 20s and stop after all these cosplay people took over. Most have never read or watched any of the superhero books/movies. They just see it as an excuse to play “dress up”.

Also she may want to be careful and change her name. Marvel comics has had a superhero called The Prowler and if they find out, their legal team may get involved.

Sad that they have to dress up, or smart? They do random acts of kindness, and the way they are dressed makes them noticeable to those seeking help.

It probably protects them somewhat from the criminal element who might rip them off because they might be intimidated by taking on a “do gooder” that would make news pretty quickly resulting in their capture.

Whatever gets them off the couch and contribute, it’s all good. What have you done today?

OBVIOUSLY you have never met a Christian. OBVIOUSLY you have never met Jesus. OBVIOUSLY you should go to your local church and ask if they have a food pantry or soup kitchen. OBVIOUSLY you should do a little homework before you speak about a group of people you OBVIOUSLY know nothing about.
Because just a glance across this country and it becomes OBVIOUS that Christians always have and always will do most of the charity work.
There are countless Christians daily extending their hands and giving of their money time and labor to help those who need it.
We Christians take our giving very seriously. We take the words of our Lord Jesus and run with them. Jesus is the one who told us we need to look after the widowed and poor because of His love for US WE take that love to the streets.
Jesus Himself fed over 5,000 people in one day on two separate occasions. So to make such an OBVIOUSLY foolish comment about Christians and right wingers… is ….well….OBVIOUSLY FOOLISH!

She wears the costume to disarm the normal distrust of her intended targets. I don’t care what her political bend is she has a huge heart (and no I don’t mean Cardiomegaly). How many people in this thread spend almost all of their waking hours in service of others? You know..like the bible tells us to?
      Philippians 2:3-5:
Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,

The facts are that “good” Christians Love and “bad” Christians mistreat their neighbor. “Good” Muslims follow the Koran and kill and “bad” Muslims don’t.

Another little fact…. if a person proclaims to be a muslim then by definition they want to kill any human that does not believe what they believe. That is a fact. I pray for everyone to live free from violence and killing. You are right about the comments made in the previous post. Organized religion breeds self rightiousness. Humans are flawed. Why do all sides have to point fingers at each other? I just want to be left alone to live my life. Giving to others and helping others that can’t help themselves, in any form, for any reason, is noble. When I lend a hand at the homeless shelter, it makes me feel good. I do not, however, want to give to people that can help themselves but choose not to because they are sorry.

I will vote foe the Republican Nominee. Can Ron Paul, or ANY of his rabid followers pledge the same? All I ever hear from them are insults, derision and scorn. Is that what Ron Paul and his peeps stand for?

@13th Imam, The short answer is that no, we will not vote for whichever “Republican” wins the primary. I am not going to vote against my conscience for someone who supports the theory of anthropogenic global warming or someone who doesn’t support the natural right of self defense which is supported by the second amendment. And you can forget about me voting for a person who doesn’t have a clear goal and plan that will bring our nation out of indebtedness because if we continue on our current path of deficit spending, we or our heirs will literally be slaves to debt. Some would argue we already are.

@SgtB….So you morons would rather guarantee an Obama win than vote for someone other than Paul?? Just living proof that Pauls followers are as nuts as he is…..While I think Ron has good ideas for the debt, his foreign policy is flat out looney toons…..That is why he shouldn’t be president. While I’m not real happy with the current front runners, I would vote for a cockroach against Obama…lets not lose focus, Obama must go or this country is toast.,….

      >ASH. I’ve always been for a smaller government. But anyone who doesn‘t tow the line regarding Paul’s total slash and burn ideas must be considered a progressive or big government guy ar gal right? Gimme’ a break with that nonsense. You’ve been reading too much OPIE FROM SOMEWHEREVILLE.

Like I’ve always said… Paul has a few good ideas regarding economics and some domestic policy, but I‘m not a rube like the you folks who accept all of Paul’s failings, ridiculously simplistic views and absolute naivete for a few good ideas.

Even Jim Jones had a few good ideas according to his acolytes… but look where that got ‘em eh ASH?

      >13TH. No they can’t. But SOME will however tell you (and I’ve read them here on The Blaze), that they would vote for Obama if Ron Paul is not the nominee… write-in be damned. In

2008, thousands upon thousands of Ron Paul supporters actually DID vote for Obama, and the rest that didn’t, helped insure an Obama victory in 2008.

The Paul supporters are some of the weaselist of the weaselist, and when they say they are voting their “conscience‘ it’s just a cop-out AND a vote for Obama. I don’t see Paul supporters and Obama supporters any differently. One has brought great harm to this country and the supporters of both Obama and Paul are complicit in this crime.

Keep your head down, Barry will be looking for you.

Please the scare tactic doesn’t work anymore…..it went out the window with fear of being called a racist for disagreement. You guys are repulican drones……just like the demdrones. I will not sell out my beliefs on this scare tactic. Anyone with a brain of their own can see through your BS.

Although the philosophy does hold water when someone running as a republican doesn’t win and runs as 3rd party, it does not hold true for Ron Paul.

It usually splits the vote, because it is just two different republican/democrats that the other side will vote against anyways because it’s not their party, and the two people are basically the same. With Ron Paul he appeals to both sides, he will take most of those Obama votes, as well as half (or most likely even more) of the republican votes. So your philosophy makes no sense when it comes to Paul, and you are just parroting talking points, and scare tactics with no level of real thought.

Great, now muggers and thieves are going to copy them and dress up like these “heroes” hoping that their potential victim’s guard will go down. Watch it happen coming to a NYC street near you.
