Meet the Wall St. Businessmen Who Stood Up to the Protesters: ‘Occupy a Desk!’

Thursday, Blaze writer Mike Opelka snapped a picture of two Wall St. businessmen staging counter-protest against the Occupiers. They had neon green signs that said “Occupy a Desk!“ and ”Get a Job.”

Meet Derek and John Tabacco Wall Street Counter protesters

So who are these guys? Well now we know: they’re two brothers named Derek and John Tabacco, and they own a small business. They’re also fed up with the protests.

“We got a bunch of small business owners together…and we thought that ‘hey, any good occupation couldn’t be ended without some resistance,’” John told Fox News, adding that there was a coalition of about 50 small business owners who are part of his movement.

“They were coming after us , they were screaming at us, trying to get in our face, putting their hands on us,” he said. He also identified with the “53%” — the group that pays taxes that the other 47% doesn’t — and said the “silent majority” was giving them the thumbs up during their counter-protest.

The brothers, however, didn’t just sit down with Fox. The budding stars also agreed to an interview with Mediaite and explained more in-depth what they’re about and what hinted at some future plans:

Mediaite sat down with Derek and John Thursday afternoon, and the brothers explained why they were doing this, how they actually wouldn’t mind helping the OWS crowd with their organization, and what the experience was like being the first real anti-OWS protesters. To be clear, the duo isn’t against the movement — a point they made several times. They instead are against the protest, which they say has been a burden and eyesore on their neighborhood, as well as on small businesses in lower Manhattan. They hinted at some really creative, smart ideas that they have planned over the next couple weeks to rally support against the crowds.

    Good for them. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the spring, summer and fall of next year if it gets that far?

      OWS..sorry they have a new brand name..”99%” want confrontation. They want this to take place. They want to exploit the confrontions. What would be smarter is for these brothers to get a class action suit of like minded business owners and employees across the country together, from cities affected by the protests and sue the cities, the property owners and any protest backers.
      Bill Ayers yesterday again demanded that the tea parties get involved. Clearly the professional left in America wants confrontations. If they can’t get a confrontation, they want association to the tea parties to “legitimize” OWS..sorry “99%”.
      I’ve been saying it for weeks now…OWS..sorry “99%” has stalled. The numbers aren’t growing and public support has reversed on them. They no longer have public support. The only place for them to go to retain media attention is confrontation, disruption and violence. Do not give them what they want..let the air get sucked out of these protests. Let the left be the left…they will destroy themselves.

      LOL! This spat cracks me up, as serious an ordeal as it is. From ALL I know, the police aren’t NAZIs. I know police officers and the ones I know are good people. The OWS movement is not just protesting Wall Street and bailouts. That might have been the case in the beginning, not now. Why would a group protesting government spending be asking for bailouts themselves, i.e.; college loans? And why are they in full support of socialism? Do they want the goverment fixed or do they want us to be complete slaves to the state? What may have been started as an honest frustrated movement has been perverted by thugs. I am irritated at our goverernments mindset that they have nobody to answer to, they are corrupt, all of them. Some are far more corrupt than others. But what good is masturbating in public or pooping on a police car goimg to do? Really? Even my 2 year old knows not to poop on a car. My conclusion is eventually there will be a civil war, it seems inevitable. No matter what happens, the Book of Romans spells out all I REALLY need to be concerned about……….

      I don’t like socialism, but I’d much rather see 27 trillion going to my fellow countrymen that NEED it than to the foreign bankers…because it’s more in our interest to create jobs with it instead of hoarding it and sitting on it until interest rates skyrocket, so they can start lending again like nothing ever happened once they can make a nice fat profit off of MY MONEY. The Fed needs to stop giving MY MONEY to FOREIGN BANKS so they can lend it back to me at interest. Leave my money alone and let me spend it the way I want.

    This has brightened my day significantly. As a 53% (taxpayer) myself, I work an 8-9 hour workday everyday, and volunteer as a Fire Fighter when I’m not working which I have done for the past 10 years. These guys are sending the message I would love to be sending these OWS lamers everyday, “Get A Job” !!

    The press and politicians always focus on the 1% loud mouth whiners like these stupid OWS protesters all over the country, while the silent majority are too busy working and keeping this country going to be out whining and complaining. Enough is enough …

      if we do not start complaing and speaking out..we will be over run by these “few” people…
      IF, IF they knew what they were fussing about..they would be in Washington where the laws are made and the “loopholes” happen..
      SEIU etc will dole out money and union memebers will not speak out as to how their money is being spent…they think all is well and gov will bail them out come reitrement..NOT SO anymore.

      I hope for someone like Beck to come back on TV where we can all hear what is “really” goin on..However, we know that FOX folded and that is not going to happen.. The computer Beck doesn’t cut it for us. We feel over whelmed with all the BS that appears to be going on.

      Try occupying some of those businesses that have been shut down and gone overseas because of our tax system, pay scale, government control, what ever reason they left. A fair wage is one hting…$30 an hour, plus outrageous benefits, to start a job which you have no expeience for is , again, !!!.outrageous..thanks to the unions even those jobs are going to the $1.95 nations.

      As normal the comments on occupy Wall Street lack any understanding of how angry and frustrated citizens are. I completely agree the movement as it is going today is just a waste of time. Yet I have hope that some intelligence exists within the groups and can see the effort needs a focus.
      For me a focus would be to create a 3rd political party that is centrist – neither left nor right but pure American – no illegals, cults, religious nuts or criminals. As a political party the movement can change the land scape and its first target should be all of the crooks in congress. All they have to do is list the millionaires who hold office and protect their income over all else.
      A demonstration without an end game is a waste – form a political party and enter the mainstream. Let me know and I will gladly help to accomplish a house cleaning in the house and senate. Then we can find a real leader who understands that for this nation to succeed requires cooperation, fiscal common sense and hate I say it “appropriate taxes”.

In fact, most are normal people just working their jobs… The very people OWS claims to represent. In reality, they’re complicating the lives of these people.     “Occupy your brain.” might be a better choice. The so- called OWS protesters aren’t protesters – they’re party people, troublemakers, communists, socialists, brats, bullies, etc. They aren’t trying to improve America – they get off on their “fame” and they are being manipulated by unions and outside interests who hate America.

    Please load them up and drop them off in (ex.) North Korea, some sharia loving country, or “whatever”. Let them find out how darned great it is here compared to those places. If they’re going to have big mouths and waste taxpayer dollars they should really get their brains working.

    I am on the side of business. These two guys are very brave to put themselves in harms way to make their point. Business in the area is threatened by lack of customers, this is a high rent district you know. I say, arrest the protesters and stop these mindless tactics aiming to destroy our nation. If the city refuses to stop them, as they have no permits to do the things they are doing, then the cities mayor is legally responsible to the state. I think the city should be broken up and combines with other cities in the vicinity where other city mayors will clean up this mess. Non-responsive city mayors should be held in contempt and tried along with the city council if they do not stop these illegal activities.

      Any normal libertarian understanding of economics tells us that people who engage in business have to make the most reasoned decisions they can to maximize their bottom line. Staying in a highly unionized nation that slaps regulation after regulation against you, while battling eco-religionists, all the while being taxed at the highest corporate tax rate in the world, is hardly rational. If a nation were doing that to me, you can rest assured that I’d leave without a shred of “loyalty”, since the nation would be treating me as a serf and a slave. Want business to return? Try treating them with respect instead of as oxen.

      There wasn’t any context to take you out of, I was responding directly to all of your words.

      People do put God and country ahead of profit, yes, but it’s not going to fly to ask them to sacrifice their livelihoods for God and country. The current business environment is downright hostile. Sure, some can come back and fall on the sword, but what purpose would that serve? People would be hired, and then the company would go out of business, and then you’re back to square one.

      If a country wants to be put first, the the country needs to not treat business like a pack of jackals. There is no self interest in buddying up to somebody who hates you after all so that he can slit your throat.

      Eliminate the corporate tax, get rid of the EPA, or at least neuter it, reduce union power through government, reduce regulations by a good 90% and then, and only then, will we be able to even marginally compete with the rest of the world in the industrial sector.
