Sort of a Trend: Raise Your Kid Totally ‘Gender Neutral’

Imagine your name is “Storm” and that you’re a cute, cuddly baby coming up in the world. You’re learning to crawl, walk, and interpret your surroundings. Soon, you’ll be able to speak, and communicate to the world what’s on your mind. But when you do, you’d better be sure to only use gender-neutral pronouns and not say anything that might alert people to whether you’re a boy or a girl. Not to your friends and relatives — even grandparents.
The only people who know your gender are your parents, the midwife who delivered you, and your two older brothers, Kio and Jazz. But they won’t be much help, as your parents are practically indiscernible from one another, Jazz wears long pigtails and has a penchant for anything pink — including pink earrings — and Kio dons an androgynous hairstyle and is forever in a pair of leggings.
Well, that’s the scenario for one Toronto baby being raised “genderless” by very progressive parents named David Stocker and Kathy Witterick. The parents, who said their decision to raise Storm gender-neutral is a “tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation,” have clung desperately to stick to their plan by any means necessary. The Daily Mail reveals Stocker and Witterick have concocted some pretty far-fetched ways of keeping the baby’s gender tightly under wraps:
Storm’s parents are offering no clues. The child is dressed in gender-neutral red and the couple are so determined to fight the ‘tyranny of pronouns’ that, after considering ‘Z’ (pronounced ‘zee’), mum refers to Storm as ‘she’ — but ‘imagining the ‘‘s’’ in brackets’.
Stocker, a “progressive teacher,” apparently even wrote a textbook called Math That Matters, that abandons the tried-and-true math equations of yesteryear for ones emphasizing “social justice” issues such as homophobia, poverty, child abuse and racial profiling. According The Mail, one of the book’s sample question reads:
“A Chinese worker who makes my shoes earns what percentage of the price I paid for them?”
The family reportedly spent their last vacation in Cuba, where they stayed with locals and sought to learn the “virtues” of Marxism.
But apparently, raising a “genderless” child is a new trend among progressives who believe a child has a “right to choose” what he or she “wants to be.” You might recall not too long ago, when J. Crew drew the ire of parents and child psychiatrists across the country for an ad featuring the company’s president Jenna Lyons painting her small son’s toenails hot pink.
The caption below the ad read: “Lucky for me I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.”
Recently, ABC reported a Michigan high school banned prom “kings” and “queens” after a transgender student was denied the crown a year earlier, and Tennessee State University has hopped on the bandwagon too, following leads from Stanford and Rutgers, by planning to offer gender-neutral housing for its students.
Even the State Department now issues gender neutral U.S. passports, dropping “mother” and “father” in place of “Parent One” and “Parent Two.”
But perhaps one of the more egregious instances of pushing the gender neutral agenda can be found in Stockholm, Sweden where a tax-payer funded preschool enforces a strict gender-free curriculum. The school retains “gender pedagogues” who refer to the students simply as “friends” and refrain from using gender identifying pronouns when referring to others. Instead, they prefer the term “hens.”
“We use the word ‘hen’ for example when a doctor, police, electrician or plumber or such is coming to the kindergarten,” Rajalin says. “We don’t know if it’s a he or a she so we just say ‘Hen is coming around 2 p.m.’ Then the children can imagine both a man or a woman. This widens their view.”
Thankfully in this case of Storm, the psychiatric community has come down on the side of sanity when it told the Daily Mail that Stocker and Witterick are doing the child a terrible disservice — in essence, raising a “freak”:
‘To raise a child not as a boy or a girl is creating, in some sense, a freak. It sets them up for not knowing who they are,’ says Dr Eugene Beresin, a child psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr Harold Koplewicz, a leading U.S. child psychiatrist, said he was ‘disturbed’ that well-meaning parents could be so misguided.
‘When children are born, they’re not a blank slate. We do have male brains and female brains,’ he says. ‘There’s a reason why boys do more rough and tumble play; there’s a reason why girls have better language development skills.’

I don’t want the government telling me how to raise my children, but the community locally should tell the parents that they have a problem with it! This child should not necessarily be taken away from it’s parents, but the parents should be taken out and horsewhipped until they understand that the community is not willing to deal with them doing this in their township. I would give them a talking too first and then if they didn’t comply, I would ask them to leave. If that was disregarded, I think a local punishment should be handed out and then expulsion.
Many may think my position is harsh, but I think it is very fair!

This report reminded me about an article I read about ten years ago. Parents tried to influence the social development of young male toddlers by denying them traditional toys associated with boys. What they learned is that no matter what toy you give to a young boy, he will attempt to turn it into a gun, a hammer, or some other implement capable of launching things through the air. They are hard-wired for manipulating their environment for motion. Girls, apparently , are similarly wired up for social discourse. So, folks, good luck with your little gender neutral experiment. It won’t work. Personally, I think you are abusing your child by denying them a gender identity.

Not only is this exercise pointless, it’s probably detrimental. People who cherish real freedom know that socialism or communism goes against human nature. I suspect that this is taking the denial of human nature to a whole new level. Give it a rest…

Get off of the abortion arguement (a little) and focus on raising the morals of your kids and grandkids. Don’t sit down with them and focus only on drugs/drinking/smoking/abortion…but about keeping it in their pants and/or their legs closed…about the importance of a solid family in raising a child.
When it is a whole family (parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles) involved in raising a child -not directly…but by offering support and showing a good example- along with involvement in church, well…it is amazing how how the kids turn out better…as well as your country.

I agree with you, it does take much involvment to raise a child well and right. As you posted further down in the article, indeed these kids will have kids of their own, and yet there is a chance that even as messed up as their parents are the kids may turn out to be a force for dynamic change to the good and the light…it can happen.
In my own case, and no I am far from good in my oppinion, I went through a living hades with a mom who dominated through fear, a dad who worked most of the days to feed the family and a sister who ran wild…along with an uncle who is a radical muslum and did things no one should experience let alone a kid…yet I can at least in part see how this actually made me into a being God can use to the better…by seeing the worst in humanity, and the best of God, I can tell others how He can bring the best out in them.
Firm reliance on God and faith can change much for the good and the better in the long run.
Today my bi-polar has been swinging across the board in all areas, yet it is in God I have placed my hope and faith for it to work out.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. No child should.
My own as a hell as well. A father who tried several times to kill my mother and me, before taking his own life. A grandmother who would beat the hell out of me, throw tablespoons of boiling water on me, make me sleep under the kitchen sink at times…it came to an head when my mother came home and found me unconscious in a corner with a broken collarbone I’d received 3 days earlier at the hands of my grandmother, who refused to take me to the doctor because she thought I was faking.
Then I turned 7…lol.
I’m now 52 and have never been married because I go on the defensive when anyone touches me. I’d never even consider having a child as I am terrified of being unable to break the cycle.
This may mean I have no right to talk about how a marriage should work or how a child should be raised…or it may very well make me an expert.

That way it would be the only way the children would have any kind of chance of growning up “normal” and with any kind of true sense of worth and who they are. These people claim that they are raising their children as “gender neutral” while in fact, the truth is that these people for some obscure and probably stupid reason are doing this just because they hate God so much that they are willing to raise their children in a way that will NEVER allow them to consider themselves even halfway normal and doubtful that they will ever be able to interact with anyone else in a normal relationship. They hate God so much that they have allowed this hatred to also become a hatred towards their own children as a way to attack God. Hey you two weirdo’s, no matter you WILL lose in the end!!!

Storm’s not going to grow up happy, because – reality check, earth to Storm’s parents – middle school, high school, and puberty are going to be WAY more confusing if this child “chooses wrong,” and decides to be the gender that physiology denies. Not to mention all of the kids that will torment this child for not either knowing or not telling her gender. Assuming the fact that the mother did use the pronoun “she” at one point is accurate, of course.

And when their kids grow up to be axe murderers, they’ll say, “Oh, don’t blame us. We have great genes. We didn’t know this would happen. Why didn’t anybody stop us?” The parents should have their junk removed so they know how it feels to be a eunuch, like their raising their kid to think “it” is.
