PHOENIX (AP) — John McCain’s daughter says in a new book released Tuesday that Sarah Palin brought drama, stress and uncertainty to her father’s failed bid for the presidency in 2008, but she doesn’t blame the vice presidential nominee for losing the race.
In “Dirty Sexy Politics,” Meghan McCain portrays conflicted feelings about her father’s surprise choice for a running mate. She reveals that she called Palin “the Time Bomb.”
“I was waiting for her to explode,” McCain wrote. “There was a fine line between genius and insanity, they say, and choosing her as the running mate was starting to seem like the definition of that line.”
But McCain also praises the Palins as “nice and down-to-Earth” and says she was impressed with Palin’s ability to captivate and inspire women.
In the end, she writes, her father lost because “Obama was unbeatable” — the electorate and the news media were too enamored with a fresh new face who represented a monumental change from then-President George W. Bush.
McCain, 25, lives in Phoenix and is the oldest of John and Cindy McCain’s four adult children. John McCain also has three children from his first marriage.
In her book, released by Hyperion, Meghan McCain shows an itch to adopt her father’s persona as a “maverick” delivering “straight talk.”
She calls religious conservatives the “intolerant far right,” evoking her father’s famous remark a decade ago that GOP religious leaders were “agents of intolerance.” The elder McCain has since backed off from those statements.
Meghan McCain chronicles her struggle to fit in with the Republican Party, and she challenges the party to focus on promoting individual liberties while being more inclusive.
“Being Republican is not a lifestyle choice,” she writes. “And it doesn‘t mean you can’t be young, or gay, or black, or anything else.”
John McCain said he was proud of his daughter and enjoyed the book.
“Reality is that we don’t agree on every issue, but that makes it even more interesting conversation around the dinner table,” he told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 4:54amMs McCain’s stance on “Same Sex Marriage” is misguided. The Institution of marriage between a Man and Woman has been around for thousands of years. They selfishly want to redefine and pervert the definition of Marriage. They don’t care who they offend,
Gays say all they want to do to be free to “live their lives” in peace. If that is the case, why won’t they stop identifying themselves by what they do in the privacy of their bedroom? Why are they so intent on making the rest of us accept their deviancy? Why are they trying to indoctrinate my 6-year-old grandson into their perversion in his school classroom ?
Why must they change “societal standards” to accept their debaucherous, perverted, deviant, lifestyle. They can’t change their behavior so they must force us to accept there behavior..
Millions of Americans are sick of it. This isn’t a Republican or Democrat thing this is a traditional values thing. Keep your personal business to yourself and leave the rest of us alone. Leave our children alone, leave our schools alone, and leave marriage alone.

The one thing they have in common is their laser like focus on what they believe in….good for them. Posted on September 1, 2010 at 4:13amIt always strikes me how infiltrators are usually not only obscene but very transparent. Take the literal translation of this disgusting person DVDA and their topics they are attempting to stir with controversy. First making a clear indication of lashing out just by the user name. Can it be more obvious that this person is more than likely not of the intellect to do any real damage here in this open forum. Clearly attempting to draw disgrace and offense to the users of this website, he only strengthens the hands that are rising against an ever diminishing LEFT. I say let him preach on continuing the disgrace as they are only providing satisfaction in our efforts to fight against this foe. In a way I am more enthusiastic know knowing more of the make-up of individuals like this. Similar to the characteristics of a dying animal or better yet a snapshot of the movie the exorcist during the priests prayer, yelling, cursing and giving every last stitch and effort to stay alive in their meaningless existence. When something that has no legitimate, note-worthy or well thought process that possess human character, a soul, or anything that can be associated with civility, i pity them, but will not lend a hand to help their dying existence. Evil always stands in its own way when challenged. Grasping for every last breath as it drowns in its own misery and darkness, the best course it to stay on our current path and let this rhetoric die out by dismissing it all-together. This will be my 1st and last notion to give any acknowledgment or reference to DVDA.

You and your hate spewing posts are exactly what Beck and the rest of us True Americans are against. If you can’t post without the disgusting things you say I feel sorry for you because obviously You know no better(I bet your Mommy is proud of your potty mouth)! Just because you voted for the Zero doesn’t give you the right to say the awful things you do. Just curious are you as disgusting as your posts? I will Pray for you. Because allowing God in your life is the only thing that can save a person like you.
People like you are a waste of perfectly good oxygen on this planet. And judging from your posts Sara Palin’s IQ is at least triple higher than yours. You sad sad thing
It is sad that a real American with American values is treated so badly by people like you. If you read the rest of the story you would know the whole truth.
Sara is a threat to people like you. I understand why a city kid with no values is threatened by a Woman who can hunt, fish, run a non-corrupt government all while raising her kids and still cooking dinner for her family. That is the dinner she hunted, shot and gutted by herself! I really feel sorry for you.
Now, go back into your Mommy’s basement and play with your sex toys. While you are there you just might find your real intelligence.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 12:57amProblem with the GOP is they LACK a consistent voice to attract the youth. I am 33 now so I’m borderline consider “old” now by youth standards but the fact stands, The Religious Right is not a bad thing but their problem is they ALIENATE the youth with the “holier then thou” aura. You can be a just moral person without having to be overtly religious. GOP needs to learn to bridge that gap.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 1:27amI disagree. Strongly. As the mother of three young adults, I see today’s youth yearning more for truth and purpose as opposed to “thrills.” It is so enocuraging to see their passion soar when they understand the crucial role they play in preserving our nation at this pivotal time in our history. It’s our job to make sure they have access to TRUTH.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 12:50amIts awfully nice of her to Megan to speak her mind after Palin helped save her dad’s rear end in the primary.
Obama wasn’t “unbeatable.” McCain refused to go after completely reasonable issues such as Jerimiah Wright and Bill Ayers, and when he had the chance to distinguish himself from Obama when the country opposed the first round of bail outs, McCain flip flopped on the issue and took the same side as Obama. That killed most of the distinction he actually had from Obama.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 12:37amRepublican party ought to embrace fiscal conservatism and leave religion out of politics. I’m afraid that is the only way the party will stay relevant in a more irreligious America of the near future.
Mushing together Christianity and capitalism is detrimental to those of us who support the latter and are indifferent to the former. Free enterprise won‘t get good reputation if those who support it can’t use logic and reason to defend even their religious faith (something that can easily be used to support the market system).
Report Post »KnightErrantJR
Posted on September 1, 2010 at 12:47amCapitalism, without morality to guide it, can be just as dangerous as Socialism. While it grants more individual control and an incentive for reward, without the moral impetus to avoid exploitation, Capitalism doesn’t survive past the first generation that manages to become successful, because the first wave becomes a ruling class that intentionally shuts the system down to protect their position at the top . . . not entirely unlike the situation we have when people in both parties think that any corporation or financial institution is too big to fail because that institution has its tendrils intertwined into government.
The only reason America has seemed to become more irreligious is that political correctness has made it more difficult to express faith publicly, which in turn makes people feel more isolated from other people of faith, and, sadly, makes them embarrassed to admit to their faith when they don’t have anyone to reinforce that there are others like them.
I’ve been guilty of it. Its a trap humans fall into. The only real way to avoid it is to remember to say what is right, no matter what. If you are alone, you are still in the right, and if not, you’ve sent out a rallying call to others that truly do want to be guided by God and morality.

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 9:53amI 100% agree – Beck is trying to bind the tea party to the christian right – and much like the slow US & Republican approval for the repeal of DADT, many republicans are not bound or agree with the Christian right. I honestly think Beck is attempting to force the two together knowing that they will destroy each other, all the while giving their money to him. Like a Fistful of Dollars.

Posted on September 2, 2010 at 5:58pmGlenn isn’t trying to bond capitalism to the religious right, in order to make money or for any other reason. He’s trying to get us to act right, so to speak. He understands, through his study of history, that we need to be a moral and virtuous people to make our constitutional Republic work the way the Founders intended. He’s asking us and encouraging us to believe in something. It’s not enough to fight for individual liberty. What will we do with it if we win it back? Glenn doesn’t stump for any particular religion, although he isn’t shy about letting us know which religion he belongs to. By the way, I’m not sure that the LDS church is part of the “religious right,” although its members and its tenets are conservative. At any rate, it isn’t about a particular religion. What it is about is acting in a moral, virtuous, and honorable way.

Meghan, I don’t think has ever worked. I know she has never run for office (with no money, like Sarah did) or really suffered for money. It is easy to be charitable with your parents money. It is a lot harder to earn it then give it away. Until she does that she is just another want to be.
