Megyn Kelly and Rep. Weiner Deliver Another Epic On-Air Battle

You may remember that Fox News’s Megyn Kelly and Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) have a history. They’ve battled on-air before. And back then, Weiner become angry, disrespectful, and condescending.

So it’s probably no surprise that when Kelly interviewed Weiner again on Wednesday, it quickly turned into a shouting match between the two, with Weiner displaying his trademark, disgusted faces and the two lecturing each other on interview protocol. By the end, Weiner even worked in a shot at Fox News “coverage,” and sarcastically gave Kelly the thumbs up while saying, “Great interview. Aces.”

For the record, the two were arguing about Weiner’s calls for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from any case involving health care reform, since Thomas’s wife makes a living advocating against Obamacare. When Weiner brought up current justice, and former solicitor general, Elena Kagan, Kelly disagreed with the comparison.

Cue fireworks:

Mediaite may have said it best:

By the end of the conversation who even knows what issue they are discussing anymore and who cares, because every Kelly/Weiner confrontation is a memorably exciting event. These two need to take their act on the road!

It can reasonably be argued that Thomas’ wife — who profits from/works for an organization that opposes the healthcare takeover — stands to gain more from a ruling in favor of the law. If there’s nothing to oppose, she’s out of work.

And, oh yeah, Megyn Kelly rules.

good point…and my first thought when initially hearing weiner’s debates against Thomas. She would benefit if the controversy continues. If it becomes settled she has no more interest in it. Besides, Thomas is a man of character and integrity. He will do the right thing, and is definitely in the position God intended for him.

      @Butler 180 and Cheezwhiz

I was intrigued by the question of Weiner having a muslum wife; I have talked with the Imam of a local mosque who I have dealt with in the past, he explained that most of Islam would have no problems in accepting the MARRIAGE of her to an non believer on the hopes of him being won over to the faith by the life she lives, in accordance to the Quoran.

However, he is explicit in that most of the more extremist, and fanatical followers of the Quoran would have no qualms killing him on the principle of him having defiled a lady of the faith; and also in seeking justice against the family of hers as well at the point of the blade.

I hope this might answer some parts of the question.

We gotta stop all that allegorization in art going on, someone might misinterpret it (Weiner‘s the only one that doesn’t get it, and that thinks the statue of virtue killing vice and corruption is misogynistic)
We gotta stop all that Justice being done over there at the Supreme Court, someone might vote the wrong way (Weiner’s way IS the wrong way–Obamacare is unconstitutional on its face)

You’re take on who won is based on the side you support, but I’ll give Kelly credit for having an opposing view on her show. This is in direct contrast to Glenn Beck who does not have opposing views on his show. Kelly, Matthews, Stewart, O’Reilly, Maddow, O‘Donnell all host opposing views and debate these views with people who don’t agree with them. Why is Beck so afraid of having a dissenting opinion on his show? I suppose that It is easier to preach when no one asks you questions.

Megyn Kelly is awesome. As for Anthony Weiner, he has to be the most appropriately named politician in history. He makes me remember what it was like to be 12 years old.

Anthony was obviously teased as a child and now that he has some “power” he is taking it out on the World. He is certainly no match against someone who has self-confidence and the ability to make a logical argument (Exhibit A: Megyn Kelly).

Obamacare is unConstitutional regardless of the Suprem Court’s decision. The Commerce Clause does not allow the Federal government to manage commerce, but to regulate it – meaning to hold parties accountable to the terms of the transactions that the parties themselves agree to. Also, such regulating/facilitating only happens between states, between us and other countries, and between us and the Native Indian tribes; Within a State, the Federal government has zero say.

Rep. Weiner once stated that former Rep. Alan Grayson-D, Florida was, “One French fry short of a Happy Meal.” However, after watching this interview, and previous interviews with Rep. Peter King-R of New York, Weiner now inherits the mantle of being, “One French Fry short of Happy Meal.” He’s a total embarrassment, as he always behaves like a spoiled 13 year old brat complaining to a school principal, because he’s not getting his way. What a putz!!!

Are you kidding me?!? You are all BRAINWASHED!!! Megyn Kelly had not one intelligent thing to say in this “interview”. She pulled the usual Fox News tactic of speaking over her guest during their answer and crumpled with defensive mechanisms when criticized. GOD!! I usually am amused with the stupidity on this site but here I have full blown nausea at the low level of critical thinking and maturity you people expect from your news source. Turn off the Fox squawk, meet us Americans in the 21st century, we’ve been waiting for you to catch up.

He never fails to disappoint. I can almost hear him squeak. But what this tells me is that the lefty little twit is nervous about Obamacare hitting the Supreme Court. He and his idiot buddies are trying to pick off the Justices. And tell me how “fighting for Liberty” is offensive.. Is the “Liberty” part what offends him? And isn‘t it funny how almost daily a new report on Obamacare comes out showing yet another reason why it’s a horror show and dingles like Wiener keep harping the same diatribe like we don’t know.

He definately has the worst case of “Smartest Person in the Room” desease I’ve ever seen.

EXACTLY, @ I choose the red pill, I didn’t expect anything but the most buzzworthy topical fox vocab from this sites users. Unions are baaaadd. Megyn is a laaawyerr yet she’s a pundit on fox news. Besides the fact that this justice isn’t fit to be in the supreme court, the main point of this story is that megyn kelly on the orders of her superiors is to prohibit Weiner from delivering his IMMENSELY more coherent arguments in exchange for Kelly’s valuable 6 minutes. Honestly, you people seem to miss, regardless of whose statements are more contextually appealing, the fact that one person, the fox news employee, aims to limit the discussion to his or her terms. That is NOT democracy!!

Why is this even an issue with the liberal progressives. Ahh…good question. Reason being when the healthcare issue goes to the Supreme Court the liberal progressives need every benefit so they can swing the decision in favor or Obamacare. Plain and simple. So if they can force Thomas to step aside in the decision, they have the majority. Ain’t going to happen. Weiner…how about a fist in the mouth.

Anybody who thinks that Kelly “won” this is revealing two things:

      1. that they don’t know that she is the journalist and is supposed to ask questions and keep her personal bias out of it; and

      2. that they don’t know that she was factually incorrect at several points during this “interview”

Megyn Kelly has a bad habit of providing commentary after she asks a question and hears a response. This is her legal training, but it flies in the face of good journalism. She asked Weiner what was wrong with Justice Thomas’ arrangement, but then tried to rebut his response with a statement, rather than a clarifying question, about her unnamed and undisclosed legal experts. When Weiner attempted to point out that those are legal opinions that contradict a plain reading of the law, not to mention the opinion of scores of legal academics, she talked over him. This is not journalism. It is a debate, where one side has the unfair advantage of controlling the microphone and time alotted. There is no way that Kelly cannot “win” a debate under such circumstances, but it also is a debate in which the truth will not come out. We all lose even as she “wins” in such circumstances.

The second problem with this interview is that she is factually wrong in her editorial statements that follow Weiner’s every response. When she asserts that Kagan recused herself only or exclusively because she was acting as a federal attorney, she is wrong. Worse, she tries to hide this error by talking over Weiner when he attempts to set the record straight. This kind of behavior happens on Fox News all of the time, in contrast to the less adversarial style we see on CNN, PBS or the big three broadcasts for the vast majority of the time they air such interviews.

What is really sad about this is that Kelly should have asked why it was okay for liberal justices on the appellate court in California to rule on cases in which they had given speeches revealing bias. Even recognizing the uniqueness of the Supreme Court as the final authority, it seems that such appellate justices should have recused themselves. Perhaps Kelly’s problem is that she is more interested in blindly defending conservatives and Republicans rather than attempting to stick to principle that is consistent regardless of whether it helps or hurts a right-wing or left-wing cause in a given instance.

We deserve better behavior from our journalists, but we will only get it when we demand it. I wonder whether anyone here, given all of these comments, even knows what good journalism is anymore. Ailes and Murdoch have done their work very well…
