Listen Up, Guys: Megyn Kelly on What Not to Say to a Pregnant Woman

Megyn Kelly, the pregnant Fox News anchor whose baby is due this month according to Wikipedia, was all Ms. Sassy-Pants on her show today as she enumerated, with humor, the top 5 things you should never–ever, ever–say to a pregnant woman. Scroll down to watch.

5. “Don’t tell us how fat or out of shape YOU feel.”

4. “Don‘t tell us it looks like we’re having a girl…we all know what that means. They say girls steal your beauty.”

3. “Don’t kid about our condition. ‘Wide load coming through’ is not funny….Ellen Degeneres has a very good rule about kidding. If we’re not both laughing, you’re doing it wrong.”

2. “Don’t guess the due date….if you ask me when I‘m due and I’m vague, just be quiet. We both know you’re sitting there wondering how I got so big so fast. You see, I would be smaller, but I have another human being developing inside me.”

1. “Don’t comment on our bodies. Ever, really. But especially when we’re pregnant.”

    I’ve got another one – if you ask a woman if she’s having twins and she says “No.”, stop there and believe her, don’t keep flapping your gums.

    My ex-boss’ wife did that to me when I was pregnant with my second. Of course she was the 40-something
    mom who still had a hot body.

    And usually women who have had children know you get bigger faster after your first. So there I was, about 25 to 26 weeks pregnant, just had an ultrasound confirming it was a girl – ONE girl. And she asks if I’m having twins. Fine, I was big (but not fat – I never gained more then the usual recommended by the medical experts) and I‘m also very short so I tend to look like a weeble when I’m pregnant. So I said “No.“ and she said ”Are you sure?”

    I should have smacked her.

    So I guess Megyn would object to my opinion that pregnant women look beautiful…and that I should keep my mouth shut? I think not…I will continue to tell every woman that warrants it that they are beautiful when they are pregnant…and even some when they aren’t…

      No, I‘m sure she wouldn’t object to your opinion stated in a general way.
      However, when that sort of thing is expressed directly to an individual the implication changes.

      eg… if you’re in a crowd listening to a speach and the speaker says,“I love pregnant women” everyone will clap or cheer. If only you and a pregnant woman are alone in an elevator and you turn and say to her, “I love pregnant women”, you’re gonna freak her out. Now, make that woman famous, and probably the recipient of several spooky letters or death threats every week and you can imagine what some stranger can set off with what they think was just an innocent remark.

    Megyn is great. Injecting humor into an otherwise non-humorous series of events called a news day.

      Love your tag, I agree she is a wonderful interviewer. She can tackle any subject or anyone. I love to watch her, I didn’t realize so many on here did not. Of course Glenn is my favorite because we get to learn so much but his program is different format than the others. I watch a lot of different ones and learn something from them all.

      Even if those around you can stand being in the presence of your monumental ignorance, they certainly hold you in very low regard, and consider your absences a blessing.
      A famous “punch line”states that, “You can’t fix stupid.” and that is very true. However, in your case I ‘m not sure you’re stupid because I don‘t know if that’s actually the case. But I do know that you most certainly are ignorant, which is even more unfortunate, because ignorance can be corrected.

    Most normal people prefer to get the news in a somewhat lighter format in the morning. Everyone isn’t so hard-core or as single minded as many on this site…especially when they first wake up, Life involves some time to enjoy the scenery, laugh with a friend and send the kids to school without a scowl to be the last thing they see on your face for the day.

    I guess what I‘m sayin’ is lighten up, start a new day in good cheer… that’s one way to tell us from Progressives and Democrats… we can enjoy our life without make everyone around us miserable.

    we can also try to not be as crude as the left tries to portray us.

    Never, ever be logical about a woman’s looks….lol. If she asks how she looks, it is a trap, trust me, there is no right answer, just a less consequential one. It may take years for her to say something, but she will never forget anything you say about her looks.

      OK I’ve been married to the same woman for 33 1/2 years and I’ve learned a thing or two about mariage relationships. Guys be smart!!! Here are a few responses that may serve you well in the future.
      “Do these jeans make my butt look big?”
      Correct answer: Baby you look great.
      incorrect: I don’t think so.
      “Is the casserole OK?”
      Correct answer: If it was any better I’m not sure it would be as good as it is right now.
      incorrect: It’s fine
      ” Do you like my new hairdo?”
      Correct answer: Baby you look great.
      Incorrect: Did you have your head with you when you had it done?
      “What are you thinking?”
      Be careful here this one can be very dangerous.
      Correct answer: The fantasy league, the camshaft,the water heater,the yard work… anything except waht you are REALLY thinking right now. This gives you time to formulate a response that won’t leave you sleeping alone in another room.
      Incorrect: I’m thinking about how much money you spend on shoes. I’m thinking about Megyn Kelly. Nothing.

    Well, I‘m a mom of five and think she’s being a little too sensitive & doesn’t hold true for all. My daughter also just had a baby and she’s not like that. It wouldn’t have bothered me either if people said those things. I think the ones that do are somehow overly worried and insecure about their looks/weight. Oh well………….sometimes she’s good about some things and others no.

    Show the next segment. Right after “Don’t comment on our bodies”, Megan and 3 other women went on the attack of “bone skinny” Leann Rimes. Talking about possibly dangerously thin appearance??? Are you kidding me! The same 3 women were sitting there as she said “don’t comment on our bodies, EVER”, and then 3 minutes later talked for 5 minutes about how gaunt Ms. Rimes looks.

    I could say it is hormones that drove her too it, but that’s not to be said to a pregnant lady.
    I might say women are just catty at heart, but that would be sexist.

    I might say it is just more of do as I say, not as I do and might be correct. When you comment on my situation your being stupid and judgmental. When I am commenting on how you look I am just exploring a ‘possible’ unhealthy example to other young women.

      What have we become when we can’t leave a pregnant woman alone. I’ve seen absolute strangers run up to very pregnant women and actually place hands (or worse) their ears on their bellies wanting to hear the baby! I‘ve heard someone actually ask a woman they’d never met if she knew who the father was!
      So just give her a break. she probably was accosted in the elevator by a “fan” or unknown co-worker that got WAY to personal.She’s closing in on full-term and I‘m certain she’s a bit on edge.

      So, ease up, cut her some slack, show some empathy, share some Christian compassion, give your good wishes, and just leave her (and any one else that’s pregnant out there) in peace.

      Yes, I’ve been watching….and praying….naturally — and I was upset when the “other one” announced victory and just kept on praying and then heard about these unknown votes !!!!! I hope it stands the scrutiny coming though – they say it’s very convoluted there & it isn’t 100% sure yet until April 15 I think. But this was highly important for those that didn’t know. Now praying Walker’s bill does hold through all this and the evil public unions are broken all over this country. So far….looks encouraging!!! Thanks again, God!!

      OK here is the best reason for not asking a woman when her baby is due…..My wife saw an old friend in the grocery and asked her when her baby was due. Her response: My baby is 2 months old….Needless to say my wife doesn’t ask that anymore. Also needless to say she hasn’t seen that friend again……

      Come on. Lighten up about the Beck comment. Pregnant women can say whatever they want around me. Keep telling yourself that it‘s only temporary and it doesn’t have to make any sense. They are not required to be rational or consistent in their remarks. It’s too hot. It’s too cold. Crying at commercials, etc.. It’s all worth it in the end. The only person who should be concerned is Rep. Wiener. I can see her coming across the desk and twisting his head off of his neck for interrupting her.

      I learned a long time ago there are only two words a woman wants to hear when she is pregnant… “Yes Dear”. Say it over and over again and you ‘may’ keep her happy for about 30 seconds ata a time. Another helpful tip… at the beginning of her 8th month into the pregnancy, go ahead and remove all pets from the house. If not they won’t be alive by the time the baby comes. Just sayin…

      So true, I know that her hormones may be acting up, but she needs to keep her remarks to herself.
      I used to kind of like Megan, but here lately she reports on stupid issues like this. Who cares? There is too much going on for her to bring all of her girlfriends in on the show and talk about pregnancy and babies. I thought I was watching the View yesterday with Megan.
      I am so glad she is gone for a while, maybe while she is gone she will lose the attitude and sarcasm.

      I saw the remark and didn’t consider it snide. I was thinking it was a preview of what Beck was going to announce that day. I believe you misinterpreted her comment.

      @apatriotfirst – Are you referring to the, “I hear there is one (a chalk board) freeing up” comment she made. I watched a clip of this and it doesn‘t seem any worse than Brett’s comment that brought the subject up.
