Megyn Kelly Reveals Past Airplane Breastfeeding Flub On-Air

There’s no doubting that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has endeared herself to her audience. She’s wildly popular with a loyal fan base. And Thursday afternoon she may have showed why: she’s not afraid to go off script and even get personal. Case in point: she revealed she once had a potentially embarrassing breastfeeding incident on a plane.

Fox reporter Trace Gallagher was discussing the recent “nurse-ins,” where mothers — in response to a fellow mother being asked not to breastfeed at a Target store — descended on stores across the country to breastfeed their babies in public. And after he wrapped up his report, Kelly offered a personal anecdote.

“You know, I got a lot of thoughts on this, Trace,” she explained with a smile on her face. “Let me just put it this way: I used to feel a lot differently before I had babies and you’re breastfeeding; they need to be fed and then sometimes they don’t like the cover. And before you know it, you‘re Megyn Kelly and you’re showing your breasts to a whole plane.”

Gallagher responded by laughing and clapping his hands — which is about all he could do at that point.

You can watch her tell the story below:

In my generation (born in 1960) mothers breast fed us but did it in private and under cover. I realize it is the sole purpose that my “bumps” were put there for and I also realize women are out in “society” more than in the 60s (though I wonder how much better off we are by that since I believe motherhood is the most important job there is and I have to question the motives of those mothers who want to let others raise their children while they persue their own interests) I shake my head at the state of things. There is something to be said about the committment to the full time job of motherood over the acquisition of stuff at the expense of our children and for those of you who start to scream about single motherhood – that is another subject all together. Get married, stay married grow up!! Our grandparents knew the value of thier word – till death do us part, for better or worse….Rick Santorum is right about the foundation being the traditional family

“Some guys don’t like to objectify women”

      Are you gay?
This is pure unadulterated feminist agitprop. There is nothing wrong with attraction to comely women. It’s wired and natural. Kind of assurance that eventually we reproduce, either by plan or by accident.

“and actually hold women in high regards”

Why? Aren’t women human beings? Yeah, they are special… just like everybody else.. I hold someone in high regard pending upon deserving it. Respect/regard is earned. It makes no diff for me what gender. Pedestalization has been invented by romanticism that objectified femalians into some sort of ethereal beings, instead of real flesh and blood humans. It created thusly a mess of false expectations and generations of disappointment.

“and it is really hard to do that when her breast is hanging out.”

Yes, of course it is. It is a reminder of the flesh and blood aspect and that interferes with your illusions. I don’t have any, and thus it does not bother me a bit.

“Some guys even, brace yourself for this, believe that sex is between a Man and a Wife and no one else! ”

I thought traditionally it’s between a husband and a wife.
I don’t have any objections to belief your specify above. if it’s consensual, though I tend to avoid wives, it brings all sorts of messy problems.

That the mountains look good in full bloom?
That women have the right to breast feed their kid wherever they want?
That women should breast feed at home and then use a breast pump and bottle the milk before they go out in public?

A couple of thoughts as a breastfeeding advocate. First in the quote, she says something about a cover. Sometimes babies wiggle or grab the cover a mother is using. She was doing her best to be careful. Also, where on a plane do you expect a mother to go? Lastly,I would think that maybe a flash of skin is better than being on an airplane with a screaming baby.

They wouldn‘t take a pacifier either so I was the source of food and comfort when they were infants and if you’re offended then look the other way. I’m offended at looking at magazing covers flaunting breasts in a sexual way not for breastfeeding my babies/toddlers (oh the horror). I’m a patriot too and believe in my right to feed my children. I agree. I remember being on a plane when the mother next to us had to breast feed her baby. Her breast was expose a bit before the baby started and I remember thinking. Its better to feed the child and not have it crying it heart out. Besides, Its really not sexually stimulating to me to see her tit being in use. They do not call them jugs for nothing.

Has no one heard of a breast feeding shirt? I made them myself from patterns (I guess it’s a good thing I sew). It has a double layer, the under layer has a slit in it so you can access the feeding supply, and the over layer gets rid of the need for a blanket. And before anyone says they’re hot…I wore them in HAWAII! I even made dresses so I could descreetly breastfeed in CHURCH! The key is DISCREETLY. I’M offended when a woman whips it out and I have to look at it. I don’t think it goes very far towards bonding.

One of the funniest things I had the privilege of seeing was going through the mess hall near the Academy of Health Sciences at Ft. Sam Houston with a Sgt Major. Rather than saluting a group of Officers he waved at them with the little finger. It was the first time I‘d heard the saying that he gave them the feather because those pencil pushing academy turds didn’t deserve the full bird.

jcannon98188, maybe I am just an odd duck. I have a theory though.

I had an accident when I was 10. Got hit by a motorbike quite hard. Had what some call NDE. Maybe you’ve heard that your whole life flashes in front of you (inadequate euphemism). It’s true. Here is a things, its not like a film. It’s like submersion but you still are in a way outside it, as an observer. It no only retraces the sensory perceptions, it also retraces the perceptions of people involved in the events and emotional states. It’s like you are aware what their emotions, as related to you, were at the moment, in a full spectrum. It’s rather intense, more so than what you normally recall and what you don’t notice. You can “see” a single blade of grass with a drop of water and the light refraction going through it if you focus on that part of the presentation. It’s very vivid.

Maybe that accounts for my ability to remember things form as early as 6 months of age.

They weren’t breast feeding either. What actually caught my attention was that most of them were wearing chains around their neck that had nothing but clips with joints on them.

Women have the ‘right’ to publicly breast feed just as much as I have the ‘right’ to stare at them while they do it with a perverse look on my face until they get the point through their idiotic head to use the cover or do it elsewhere. And Shill Kelly popped hers out on a plane?

Children get hungry at the most inopportune times, I agree.
However, decency and modesty would ask that you find an indiscreet place to feed your child. If none is available, or if it is inconvenient, ask others if they mind.

This isn’t Asia or any other country.

Yes it is natural, just be courteous to those around you. Without courtesy, there is no civilization.

I am a mom who yes breastfed…if I had to in front of others with a blanket. no blanket no boob. seriously. I see why women get upset about breast feeding in rest rooms etc. it is unsanitary and a very unpleasant experience which when mom is upset the baby gets upset. there always seems to be moms like the sit in at target who have to make a giant production out of it. discretion is key, keep your boobs in your shirt or do what I did tint the windows in my truck and get a blanket!

No and it isn’t Europe either where they think Americans are a bunch of uptight prudes. Do you know how much controversy there is about breastfeeding over there? None. They don’t make a big deal about naked breasts on the beach or primetime TV either.

We need to be more like Europeans and stop being scared of breasts

The only time it‘s acceptable to see breasts in America is when they’re exposed for a bunch of slobbering ape-like men to stare at. If they’re used for their actual purpose…feeding babies…then suddenly it’s offensive.

Sorry, but it is offensive to some. All I’m saying is be courteous to those around you. I would never refuse a woman the ability to nurse her baby. I would not ask her to step into a restroom, either. She could nurse beside me in a phone booth and i wouldn’t care (or stare). I’m just saying that we need to be cognizant of others feelings and not be so “It’s what I want to do, so I’m going to do it!!” I’m sure if you asked, no one would have a problem.

As for being like the secular (read: Godless) Europeans, sorry, I have no desire.

sisserydoo: “The only time it‘s acceptable to see breasts in America is when they’re exposed for a bunch of slobbering ape-like men to stare at.”

There are also those that don’t slobber and that look quite distinct from apes, yet they enjoy the beauty if warranted.

OTOH, there are those femalians that belong to a “tease” subspecies and enjoy exposing them for an ego boost.Vis: “Girls Gone Wild”.

“If they’re used for their actual purpose…feeding babies…then suddenly it’s offensive.”

Boggles mind, doesn’t it? They are multipurpose elements. Consider apes, since you already brought it up. The females don’t have any distinct semi-conical extrusions, yet they feed their offspring with a resounding success. Is it remotely possible that the human female breasts have another purpose than just feeding offspring? In fact, it seems that their shape is not exactly ideal for breastfeeding, as they may “smother” the baby. Another indication that they have been designed for other purposes. In medical/biology literature, they are dubbed as “secondary sexual characteristics”. Imagine that!

It seems to me that based on observations (and by measuring of cerebral cortex responses to visual stimulae), the biology scientists concluded that the human female breasts play a role in attraction of human species male counterparts. The horror, the horror!

Breast feeding is a natural function. If people are offended by it, or can’t control their own perverted natures, it’s NOT the women of the baby that has the problem.

Women don’t understand why men are opposed to women breastfeeding in public.

It’s NOT that we find it disgusting – FAR FROM IT. We are men, and it’s quite a turn on.

No, we oppose it because we don‘t want to be accused of being inappropriate when it’s the women who are the ones showing their breasts.

If you want the freedom to show your breasts without judgement, then we want the freedom to admire them without judgement. You can’t have it both ways.

How about just going into another room to do it so that you don’t piss off your husbands/significant other?

Beautiful people like Megyn Kelly make it difficult to honor the fact that she’s married, when they let their goodies hang out. We can’t stop being men, and we‘re not wrong for looking if you’re showing.

      @KrisLee1022,

“It‘s you’r right to ogle and drool, but it sounds to me like you are justifying your own bad behavior.”

Your assumption is that it’s bad for me to be attracted to women. I’m a man, therefore I am attracted to women.

And women actually expect men to be this way, if they’re honest – it’s why so many of them choose the bad boy. Women EXPECT their men to be men, including in this area.

You say, what about gay guys? Even they know that there’s supposed to be a difference between genders, which is why they themselves only choose one gender. As for the same sex attraction, this is actually due to a desire to be accepted as a man by other men, but the means by which they try to accomplish this is flawed.

      See here.
