Video Shows Melon-Smashing Comedian Gallagher Collapse on MN Stage

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — Comedian Gallagher is hospitalized in Minnesota after collapsing during a performance.

Todd Powers, owner of Whiskey Bone’s Roadhouse in Rochester, said the 64-year-old Gallagher collapsed in the middle of a show there Thursday night.

Gallagher’s manager, Craig Marquardo, says the comedian is in stable condition and will be hospitalized overnight. He says he doesn’t yet know what caused Gallagher to collapse.

A video posted on TMZ.com shows the collapse, right after the comedian performs one of his famous smashings and yells, “And the rockets red glare!” (Click on the picture to watch the video:)

A witness, Chris Blade, told the Rochester Post-Bulletin that Gallagher had complained of pain in his left arm and shortness of breath earlier in the evening. Blade said Gallagher was responsive when emergency crews were taking him out of the club.

Gallagher, whose real name is Leo Anthony Gallagher, is best known for smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer.

    @ Obama Bin Lying

I know this is a little off topic here, but your name has gotten me wondering something.

Is it a cute play on words, or is it a suggestion that Obama is the son of lies?

Sorry if that seems like a weird, rude and intrusive question, but it just has me insanely curious if you’re still around this thread anyway…

I’ve wondered what happened to him – I used to watch him on tv with my kids when they were elementary school age. They are now 24 and 25 and I’m so glad I watched crazy kids shows with them. I hope he gets better soon and it’s nothing serious.

I saw him last year and the 90-minute show was hilarious. The last 20 minutes was Sledge-O-Matic, but the the first hour was genuinely good comedy. I got free tix, so I went. Glad I did….

I’ve never been fond of his comedy honestly, even when he was fresh and new in the 1980′s. That said, it‘s always been clear to me that he’s a good man with a good heart (no pun intended, sorry), and I wish him a speedy recovery.
