Member of German Rowing Team Leaves Olympic Village Over Neo-Nazi Ties

Nadja Drygalla, a former police officer and member of the German rowing team, left the Olympic village on Friday following reports that her boyfriend is a Neo-Nazi and that she herself sympathizes with far-right extremism.
Drygalla’s boyfriend is allegedly a “leading member” of Germany’s “Rostock National Socialists,” the party named after Third Reich doctor Paul Rostock, who was charged with carrying out heinous medical experiments on concentration camp prisoners during the Holocaust. The Rostock party is represented in two state assemblies, but not in the country’s federal parliament, according to reports.
The national Olympic association’s general director, Michael Vesper, said he and German rowing officials held a meeting with Drygalla in which she “stressed credibly” that she “is committed to the values of the Olympic charter.” One of the tents in the Olympic charter states:
Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.
According to Vesper, Drygalla said she would leave the Olympic Village to avoid any “burden for the Olympic team.” The chairman of the national rowing association, Siegfried Kaidel, said it would hold further talks with Drygalla after the Olympics on “the further course of action.”
Germany’s intelligence agency describes the Rostock National Socialists as racist, anti-Semitic and inspired by the Nazis. Further, the party allegedly comprises mostly uneducated, young men and targets immigrant communities, blaming them for the country’s crime and unemployment rates.
Drygalla had already finished competing at the Games after the women’s rowing eight team, failed to make it to Thursday’s final. She left of her own accord after a 90-minute conversation German officials, according to the Associated Press.
The German rowing federation released a statement saying it welcomed Drygalla’s decision and promised it would have “another conversation with Nadja Drygalla in August after the Olympic Games” in an effort to decide “how to proceed.”
International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams also clarified that Drygalla had done nothing wrong during her time at the Olympic Games, saying, “there is no issue for us regarding the rower.”
“I have seen the report. But as far as the Games are concerned, she has not done anything wrong.”
Given Germany’s tainted history where race is concerned, it perhaps doesn’t come as a shock that the rower was encouraged to leave the games so as not to draw negative attention to her team mates and country as a whole.

Example I once asked a nice smart white woman in her 70‘s that lived in Detroit in the 1950’s-60′s what she thought of the Detroit, and LA – Watts riots of that time she replied – “what riot” !
With all of today’s high crime, riots, and 60 years of the end of segregation, unfortunatly the internet came 50 years too late, the damage is done, parts of America already look like South Africa, white people look more and more like prey on American streets. So would discrimination of people who discrimination be allowed? What if i am discriminating against a group because they discriminate should i be discriminated against? or what happens if i discriminate against someone for discriminating against others who discriminating against others , then should i face discrimination?
In other words, how do you rationalize discrimination of a person for their political beliefs because they are of a discriminatory nature, doesn’t that break your perfect word charter/concept/bi-laws?
Its like the left we will not tolerate intolerance ? What hows is that possible?

It seems a shame since she is guilty of nothing, to be encouraged to quit. If she was a quitter, she would not have made it to the olympics. Of which I care nothing about, but she obviously did. You are definitely onto something. There really is no “right and left” in political theory. In deep theory, there is on one side the “individual” and on the other side, the “collectivist”. Some political writers try to simplify the positions by attaching right and left to them.
Albert J. **** did a bang up job of laying out the problem in his great book “Our Enemy the State” written in 1934. (don’t let the title fool you, its not what you think) It is geared toward post graduate political students and is difficult to read. But he lays out with clarity the difference of the extreme individual, (some say anarchist, I question that) to that of that of the extreme communist. Say, Pol Pot, et al. and the varying degrees in between (where most people exist).
The “right wing left wing” nonsense is used by a lot of people who really don’t know what in the world they are talking about and use the words because they think it makes them sound like they know something.
Not insulting you or anyone else here, because a lot of people on this board really do know what is being discussed, but are forced to use words that everyone else can understand.

What I‘m saying is anyone with a basic education in history knows that the name ’National Socialist party’ was used to attract people away from communism, the party itself was born out of a combination of the anti communist movement and the far right German nationalist movement. A name is a name, if you examine the actions there is no doubt as to the political leanings of Hitler’s Nazi party, after all look at China it‘s full title is the ’People‘s Republic of China’.
You could argue that Hitler was critical of left and right wing politics, but to suggest Nazi’s were left wing is plain childish and ignorant………So as I said ‘Grow up!’

Why bother to respond? All you can manage is to accuse me of being a leftist (wrong) and for some reason believe I have some interest in Obama (wrong). All you’re doing is playing the usual game and distracting from the fact you have no answer to my point.
Why shouldn’t I correct the ridiculous attempts at re-writing history, just because some people don’t like Nazis being associated with FAR right wing politics.

The New York Times is the one that muddied up the waters back in the ‘20s and ’30s. At first, they were thrilled with Adolph and his PROGRESSIVE policies. Just like they had a love affair with Stalin. When Jews started out winding up dead by the boatload, the NYT had to back peddle something serious. Sooooo, they just stripped the NAZI of their progressive title and started saying that Adolph and friends were RIGHT WINGERS. This point has been researched many times. I‘ll look and try to find the one publication that I’m thinking of.
Adolph was by no means an individualist (except for himself of course). His whole ideology was centered around the collective.
And I agree, denigrating or being insulting to anyone in a discussion only tells me about your temperament, and as it stands, I am less than impressed.

Perhapsed I am blinded here…but I think the Olympic committee needs to rethink it’s policies. I think they themselves discriminate for political purposes and use double standards. The Olympics to me is showing what a politically correct set of double standards they use or misuse when it is convenient for them.
Wondering how long it will be before Americans catch on to the understanding that the Olympics is not the only game in town for PC nonsense. To me what the Olympic committee is doing does not make good nonsense.

I’m asking myself the same thing. The Olympic Committe needs to check it’s double standards. They have become to PC like the rest of the world. I‘m not sure Amerika is doing itself any favors going to a Double Standard event like this if this is the World’s new non standards.
