    I got out of the service over 40 years ago. While just a young GI I was so poorly paid that I could qualify for free food from the county’s pantry and shelter. Talking to young GI’s just over the last few months, these guys and gals STILL are paid very poorly. With all the Billions we give away to foreign governments, I ‘ve always wondered how our Congress year after year can find it quite acceptable to keep paying GI’s as poorly as they do……it was a crying shame when I was in the service and its STILL a crying shame !!

    I was talking Generals and those officers. Those sitting in an office.

    I am aware of which Officers go on the ground with their men. And they need more than our thank yous. They need to not have to worry about paying their bills, feeding families. IMO, our military should be paid a lot more than our politicians.

    I meant no offense, I love our military. My past husband gave 20 years.

    I am a college professor and photographer.. and trained countless military intelligence soldiers in the past. I loved this. I have a sign on my office door, “if you can read this thank a teacher; if you can read this in ENGLISH, thank a soldier.”

    To those that served our country knowing that death is only a bullet away, I am forever in your debt. Compared to the people that voluntarily signed up to risk their lives to travel to America-hating nations to fight against our foreign adversaries to defend our irreplacable freedoms, I am little more than just a small person enjoying them. May God bless our beloved Marines, both at home and abroad, for they deserve better.

    A debt of gratitude to all fallen U.S.Veterans, those who have been wounded, and those currently serving this great country to make our daily way of life possible. Thank you to the families of these men and women. We are a blessed country when so many volunteer selflessly.

    Tuned into Fox this morning and listened to several soldiers saying “hi” to their family at home and stated their deployment was Southwest Asia. This must be the new pc subtle nudge from the higher ups into a new world order of regions rather than countries. Southwest Asia covers a lot of middle east countries.

    Memorial Day means a lot to me having had friends who lost their lives fighting for this country and doing something that I’m not allowed to. Every Summer is still tough with Memorial Day and 4th of July and I end up crying often in remembrance of all the wonderful men and women who gave their lives so I can live mine in freedom.

      Shinwasha: So with you on your comments. As a sister of an Army soldier who served 16 years of his life doing what he loved to do. He was never happier than when he was in uniform! My prayers go out to all those currently serving—stay safe and THANK YOU!

    To comrades long gone and those who are just far away you are not forgotten and I salute you. Raise a toast to all who were willing to possibly lay down their very lives for people they will never know. To all those who served in Vietnam Welcome Home. All men die, but very few men really live.

    We choose to serve. We volunteer to do the will of the United States of America abroad and at home. It is a lifestyle that is not for everyone. I appreciate that there are still Americans out there who volunteer to fight. Thank you to all the Vietnam Veterans out there who dealt with extreme hardship both in Vietnam and here at home. If it were not for the Veterans before my generation, we newly minted veterans would not be treated as well as we are. Thank you!

    We owe everything to the brave men and women who fought for this Republic, whose deeds echo down from the Revolution, 1812, the battlefields of our Civil War, the Spanish-America war, both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and now the Middle East. Our deepest respect and heartfelt thanks.

      Amen. We need to always remembe those who have given their all and all for us, those who have served and are still serving at home and overseas wherever it may be…they are the front line to keep us safe from foreign advesaries of the freedoms we enjoy. We too have a duty to ensure support is given to them in turn, and defend the homefront from enemies within.

      God keep them safe and let them return home soonest.

      Maybe we at home need to fight for our soldiers and families of today so they will not need food stamps to live. They need much higher wages. Not the Officers, but the guys that actually fight.

      I have family that has served in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWII and Korea, as well as my time served. We greatly appreciate the vets that are still around but today we show our solemn and grateful remembrance to those that are not. Heaven has a special place for those that served and we can be assured that the street of Heaven are guarded by United States Marines. Semper Fi.
