Mexican Blogger Decapitated for Reporting on Drug Cartels on Social Media Site

The decapitated body of a man was discovered Wednesday in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, purportedly in retaliation for his reporting on drug cartels on a popular social media site.

“This happened to me for not understanding that I shouldn’t report on the social networks,” read a bloodstained note left with the body.

Police found the body at a monument on one of the city’s main thoroughfares, said a Tamaulipas state investigator who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to discuss the case due to safety concerns.

A photograph of the scene posted on a blog shows a handcuffed man lying on his belly on top of the bloodstained note and a chopped head nearby.

The message claimed the man, identified only by his nickname “Rascatripas” — meaning “Belly Scratcher” — was a moderator of “Nuevo Laredo en Vivo,” a website used by city residents to denounce crime and warn each other about drug cartel gunfights and roadblocks.

The gruesome killing may be the fourth since September in which people in Nuevo Laredo were killed by a drug cartel for what they said on the Internet.

The decapitated body of Maria Elizabeth Macias, “La Nena de Laredo,“ or ”Laredo Girl,” was found at the same site in September with a message that said she was killed for her reports on the website. That message was signed with the letter “Z,” which refers to the violent Zetas drug cartel.

Earlier that month, the bodies of a man and a woman were found hanging from an overpass in Nuevo Laredo with a message threatening, “this is what will happen” to trouble-making Internet users and also signed with a “Z.”

The Zetas have dominated Nuevo Laredo, located across the border from Laredo, Texas, for years.

“Nuevo Laredo en Vivo” has a message acknowledging Macias was a contributor and lauding her courage.

Chat messages on the website show a user with the nickname of “Rascatripas” commented Monday afternoon about the dangers of traveling on a riverside highway that connects Nuevo Laredo to Ciudad Mier.

Whether the unidentified man found Wednesday at a monument to Christopher Columbus contributed to the website is unclear.

“We have no way of confirming whether He is the person who was killed because we’re all anonymous,“ said a tweet by ”Nuevo Laredo en Vivo” in response to a request for comment by The Associated Press.

Still, users of “Nuevo Laredo en Vivo” vowed to continue reporting criminals to authorities.

“Those guys think they are so smart. They want to spread fear,” one user wrote Wednesday night. “As long as no one confirms Rasca was an honest citizen, let’s leave it as a doubt and continue on.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, another post written after the man’s death declared: “Let’s continue denouncing them, now that we’ve seen it burns them, hurts them….We have to continue. We can’t give in.”

You can watch a Spanish-language KLDO-TV report on the body’s discovery below, featuring images from the crime scene:

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

COMENTSOLDIER, A large portion of the Zetas income comes from kidnappings, sex trade, murder for hire etc. Legalizing drugs will just make the above mentioned things a lot worse. Also I’m glad someone is finally reporting this stuff. This is happening every single day in mexico. Visit some narco sites, and you’ll find plenty of fresh hacked up bodies every single day.

LEGALIZE marujuana now, please! Put these guys OUT of business. The demand is not going to go away. As long as it’s illegal, the crime and the cartel will not go away. If it’s legal, it can be grown here and taxed here. “We don’t need no stinking illegally bought cartel weed.”

Let’s exile all of our convicted drug dealers and users to Mexico, moving the demand to the supply and keeping the problem concentrated in one place, rather than promoting its spread.

Without dealers and users here in the USA to introduce others to the habit, it would die out very quickly. The only reason the drug trade thrives is because the drugs can be made for nothing and sold in affluent countries for a lot. If we move the users to Mexico, it not only cleans up our backyard, but it also makes the trade less lucrative for the gangs. Eventually, the incentive to manufacture drugs would be relegated to making them for one’s own consumption, rather than mass producing it for resale.

The way to stop them is to take the economic value out of their business–either stop using drugs, or legalize them and let market forces begin to water down their government-sheltered monopoly! If we legalize drugs, we also need to let employers set drug-use policies and drug test at will, with termination a non-recourse option for violations of policy (say, for pilots, truck drivers, workers in hazmat situations, even private citizens driving a motor vehicle, where DUI is jail time.).

If that isn’t Terrorism, I don’t know what is! If the CIA wanted to take down these guys it would have already been done. The CIA is probably squeezing the cartels for money to fund their own black ops off the books… When the CIA no longer has use for them, they will be eliminated. Plain and simple, just like the Colombian Drug Boss. Or if the death of one of the Cartel’s becomes beneficial (more benificical than the income from their Drug Tax), then the CIA will also have them eliminated.

Read “The Secret Team” by Ret. Col. L. Fletcher Prouty (he was there during the bay of pigs…etc.. and was there before they had to sign secret agreements so he wrote a book describing how the CIA works). http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Team-Allies-Control-United/dp/1616082844/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320953796&sr=8-1

That Afghanistan/Iran/Turkey/Syria/Egypt/heck the whole darn region…their main Agricultural Crop is Pot or Coke. They grow then ship to South and/or Central America. It is then shipped to the North and refined by the local Drug Kingpins. The Mexican Drug Lords have firm alliances with the Middle East and they are all just Diggin It.
Ah, I’m talkin to the Choir on this one. All I can type is FOLLOW THE MONEY!. What Nations have stakes in the Middle East. What Nation has a major stake in a pipeline of oil across many Middle east Nations. Who is starving for oil???
Until we WE=United States gets RID OF THE DEMAND-we are just players in the game of Monopoly. Canada wants a deal to pipe the oil to us. Tree Huggers throwing fits over this…it will disrupt Bambi’s forest. Yet, if they take a look at the Alaskan Pipeline-they would see that not only do the animals return-they flourish around the pipeline. Heck, animals camp out under the pipeline for friction heat.
Apologies…got off the topic. Do your OWN research and just see how the Drug Cartels have changed their tactics and just who does it mimic….if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…

      Just connect all the dots.
Mexico’s government are the drug cartels.
The last time I was there was in 1997 when my mom die and back then that town where my mom lived was ruled by the zetas. The sad thing is that most of the people thought that this guys were the good people just like what is happening with Obama administration right now.
Every day they find heads rolling on the streets like soccer balls and this is a true story. The media do not reports the crimes. The police don’t do anything about it because they are getting paid by the drug cartels. The police uses stolen cars from the USA. They don’t even bother to change the license plates on the vehicles. They display the license plates from all the states of this country.
What is happening to this country makes so sad because I know where it’s going. God bless America and the people that love it.
