MI5 Foils ‘Cyanide Hand Cream’ Attack Ahead of Olympic Games

MI5 — Britain’s version of the FBI — is launching its biggest initiative since WW2 in preparing for the London Olympics. Reports say that 3,800 agents will be responsible for performing checks on 540,000 people and militant groups.
And they aren’t wasting any time getting started. Already, an al-Qaeda plan to attack the Olympics with “cyanide hand cream” has been foiled.
The Daily Mail reports:
Details of the alleged lethal plot were posted on a website with links to six terrorists involved in the infamous terror group.

One man, who calls himself Abu Hija Ansari, said [that] cyanide poison should be mixed with hand cream so it can be absorbed into the skin.
Writing in Arabic he wrote instructions on how anyone planning the attack should wear ‘medical gloves’.
He allegedly said: ‘Through skin: 1 – cyanide, 2 – skin cream’.
‘Mix the ingredients. The skin cream will open the pores in the skin and speed up the absorption and effectiveness of the poison.’
Meanwhile, a second extremist wrote on the website which The Sun was able to access: ‘It is a good idea and you need to plan well.’
To aid in the effort, MI5 has established a new monitoring and intelligence gathering system which includes thoroughly vetting all athletes, their families, officials, and the media. They will also be monitoring various militant groups, liaising closely with foreign governments, and deploying surface-to-air missiles to prevent threats from the sky.
The 80,000-seat stadium will host 14,700 athletes from 205 countries, and have a staff of 20,000 people. The estimated security cost of the endeavor is around £1billion ($1.59 billion).
A spokesman for England’s Home Office said, “The focus of the Government and everyone involved is to deliver a safe and secure Olympics and Paralympic Games…We are working to a robust and comprehensive safety and security strategy. We want to reassure everyone that we will leave nothing to chance in our aim to deliver a Games that London, the UK and the whole world will enjoy.”

maybe he was thinking “hand sanitizer” instead of “skin cream”?
just underbid the contract to clean/refill all the bathrooms. there are bound to be those hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere, and wearing medical gloves wouldn’t look all that suspicious.
and it would be a few hours before anyone started to get sick…and good luck tracing it back to the hand sanitizer for days afterwards..meanwhile more and more people get sick…
I take the “amateurs” comment back. this is damned ingenious. good thing they got caught.

If these people really want to do damage and are willing to sit down and plan it out carefully they’re very very difficult to stop (unless of course they announce their intentions on the internet).
Same thing I’ve been saying to gun control advocates for years. You don’t need a gun to kill someone, and it’s actually fairly ineffective to go on a “mass shooting” when a homemade bomb will do a better job in less time.
Just look at what Tim McVeigh was able to do with fertilizer and diesel fuel… far more than he and half a dozen friends could have done with guns.
I’m not sure how effective poisoning hand creme would actually be but the fact that they considered it shows that these people are crazy but also creative, cunning and ruthless.
These people (terrorists) are exceptionally dangerous. While part of me agrees that exterminating them is the best option I question how you would do that. Al-Qaeda is not monolithic nor is it the only one of these sort of groups out there. These groups hide among civilians and when our strikes kill one or two civvies it becomes a recruiting tool for the very people we were out to kill in the first place.
In short these people present a very very sticky wicket.

Although its a hard, bitter pill to swallow when we realize that we have over exaggerated and placed everyone in the same category on a rant, “ying and yang”…

…have meaning and a reminder for all religious and/or faithless beliefs that we hold.
When your T.V., radio, internet, movies and planted words of mouth tell you constantly that “THIS” is the stereotype and “THIS” is the way to believe and if not, then there is something WRONG with you, sometimes, it truly is hard to see the “forest through the trees.”
But as far as 1972. I remember it well, and the fact that people are concerned about it happening again, leads to a question: Is there a country that the muslims as a whole have a solid realistic interest that they would take over half of their very people as meat shields just to claim it? That answer of course is Israel but you cant tell Yob’momma that…
