What happens when a police officer is caught speeding? How about caught speeding in his patrol car? And how about when he’s caught by a state trooper? You’re about to find out.
A local Miami police officer was arrested earlier this month after he led a Florida State Trooper on a high speed chase that hit 120 MPH. The ordeal was caught on the trooper’s dash camera, and shows just how serious she took the incident: when she finally gets the patrol car to pull over, she approaches with her gun drawn while barking out signals:
The Florida Highway Patrol says the local officer is Fausto Lopez.
According to a police report, a trooper spotted a patrol car changing lanes in a dangerous manner earlier this month. The report says the patrol car ignored warnings to pull over and led a brief high-speed chase before stopping near Hollywood.
Miami police spokesman Delrish Moss told The Associated Press on Saturday that any administrative action against Lopez will be taken after the outcome of the criminal case.
Gawker explains what happened to Lopez after the arrest:
Lopez was later released with only a ticket for dangerous driving — a second-degree misdemeanor that requires a court hearing. But the video quickly went viral, and city officials have been quick to denounce Lopez’s actions. Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado told the Herald, “No one should drive 120 miles per hour,” and police chief Manuel Orosa assured that an internal affairs investigation in underway. And Commissioner Frank Carollo put it this way: “The police, like everyone, must respect the laws. What has happened is unacceptable.”
The Associate Press contributed to this report.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 1:50pmLMAO!! ‘Bout damn tiime. These bozos with badges race around seeming immune to laws from murder at Ruby Ridge and Waco all the way to traffic laws. It is nice to see this fine officer enforce the law for EVERYONE. The only question that remains is how much longer she will be on the force.
Y’all have a nice day.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 8:43pmYes, I am one of those “Bozo’s with a badge.” I have been on the street for over 17yrs.
First of all I do not in any way condone this Miami officer’s actions. He was wrong. He deserves a ticket, suspension, loss of car… all the above in my opinion. I will never defend someone’s wrong doing because they choose to be an officer. We are a nation of laws NOT men.
I drive my police vehicle appox 12.5hrs a day. During this time I rarely use my turn signal, I speed frequently and write other driver’s speeding tickets. I also speed to calls in direct violation of the law and my department policy. In general- drive like a jerk. Is this hypocrisy? Sure is.
But I hope that you can perhaps see that there is a purpose to my actions. I am responding calls for service, trying to negotiate traffic, tail a car, get a tag number, to be seen, or not be seen. We are not the fire department. The last thing I want to do is turn on my lights to clear traffic. People freak out and do not know what to do. You get there much faster, more safe and quiet without lights.
My work conditions?; a GPS locater, audio & video recording all day/every day, and an in-car computer tracking everything I do/type.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 1:28pmYou go girl. Had he not been a police officer the same language he used with the trooper would have gotten him shot with a bullet or stun gun. His excuse is disgusting and he should have been fired – a misdemeanor is not enough. I hope the police officers are arrested more often for their abuses of the authority given to them. The State trooper deserves a promotion.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 12:18pmWhat is the good cop, bad cop ratio? Why do we call them pigs? I’d rather carry a gun, and protect myself than rely on these incompetent derelicts, and crooks. Think about it, a thief only hits you once in a while. Cops steal from you every day. It cracks me up to hear the argument, that we appreciate cops when we’re in trouble, LOL. If we were free to exercise our second amendment right, we wouldn’t need 75% of them, if that many. Gun control just means more criminals, which means more criminal cops, which means less freedom. Wake up Americans, raise your children to be someone honorable. Stop being filled with false pride over your son, or daughter the cop. Make your local governments adhere to the constitution. After all they did swear an oath to it.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 10:53amI called FHP on a county cop that passed me on the shoulder of I95 last year. With FHP on the phone I caught him at the exit light got out of my car and read the Police car # to FHP. They told me that it couldn’t be right because it was a suporvisor #. I made several calls and was later called and told to stand down because they now had my information and I wouldn’t like it if I pursued it any further. True story and I said have a nice day it’s over.

Too many unqualified people are being handed badges these days, idiots who will do 120mph in a patrol car to get to a part-time job, or shoot a cow with a 9mm. That Florida trooper did the right thing. The Miami cop should be off the force for abuse of power.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 10:02amThe cops regularly disregard traffic laws, while writing exhorbitant tickets to meet a quota.
They do U turns in the middle of traffic, speed, cut people off, tailgate, ignore traffic signals, etc. They simply have no regard for the lw. They’re above the law, and ARE the law in their minds.
Imagine that this was a citizen trying to perform a citizen’s arrest on this speeding criminal, because minus the uniform and the badge, that woman is a citizen, and her rights to arrest and bear arms comes from the same place. But a normal citizen would NOT have been obeyed the way this trooper was obeyed, the cop would have been trying to arrest the civilian for speeding to catch up with the speeding cop.
This is extremely RARE and refreshing, but technically, they BOTH were speeding ridiculously in moderate traffic on the freeway, and BOTH of them were putting other drivers at risk. A civilian should have pulled them both over and cited them BOTH for speeding.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 9:44amI think she could have gotten the same result calling in his vehicle ID to his agency, instead of nationally embarrassing them. There probably are issues apparent to the agencies, that aren’t to the public. This is going to come back on both, from the Governor on down. This isn’t the first time a cop sees another being inappropriate. Happens daily, but how often do you see cops doing a felony arrest on another cop? Without felony charges? That says something. Very, very rare and it ALWAYS makes national news. Like to be the fly on the wall when the trooper’s command gets her behind closed doors. We already know he’s toast.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 9:20amAs someone who has spent a lot of time driving around South Florida, I can attest that the cop wasn’t driving too different from many of his fellow citizens. What’s unusual here is not that the guy was in a cop car but the cop car was actually pulled over. Cops drive like this all the time and in Miami these habits are pretty typical among exiled class of car-crazed Cubans. Some stuff is done with automobiles in Miami that, while it seems normal in sub-tropical Florida, doing the same thing would cause great consternation if witnessed anywhere else in America. Miami is a foreign country in everything but name and this ticketing highway trooper babe is like an alien occupier carrying civilized car customs to the natives who neither see the need for it or welcome the intrusion.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 9:00amI drive all the time for work and I have seen cops do things they would ticket and arrest normal people for. Putting on their lights just to make it through a red light. Tail-gating, just to cause people to get nervous and screw up. I even had an off-duty town cop’s wife (he was in the passenger seat) slam on her brakes in front of me, because it was their determination that I was too close to them. If I had been too close, I would have hit them, but I wasn’t. They even had a child in the back seat. I had them pull over and the off-duty cops comes running up to me to try to intimidate me (me walking with a cane.) I asked what the problem was, he told me they had been watching me and I was swerving and following too close. I asked him who he was and he said he was a County Deputy, so I called the sherriff’s office. When they showed up, they said he wasn’t a deputy, but a town cop. I then called the State Police, which was a mistake, because the State Police post was in the same town as this cop and the SP officer was female and the wives knew each other. They were yukking it up with each other, when she came over to question me, she acted as if everything was MY fault, so nothing was done about them. I called the Chief of Police for this town and made a complaint, but nothing was ever done. It‘s just too bad I didn’t have it on video. High end people don’t want to even see common people. Unlike common people, cops don‘t fly through traffic to pull ’high end people’ over for speeding violations, cops fly through traffic on a mission to protect high end people. High end people need guards to keep them from getting too close to common people.
