Mich. Union Hiring Homeless People to Picket

Astroturfing: An artificially-manufactured political movement designed to give the appearance of grass roots activism.”

If ever you wanted to see a great example of “astroturfing,” then the video below might become a part of your permanent library. The Mackinac Center, a public policy think tank in Michigan, has uncovered an interesting little detail in the local carpenters union’s fight against a non-union developer: the union is hiring down-and-outs to do its picketing:

    why don’t union workers band together, quit their current jobs and start their own Co-op company? with all the money they have spent in dues over the years they should have no problem…Oh yeah, they are lazy hacks who want more than they are worth in pay an benefits and don’ have the ability to create for themselves. Wouldn‘t want to cut into Trumpka’s sweet pay check.

      I hate to say it but when you spend all that you make assuming that the well will never run dry and then it does, you have nowhere to turn and you have nothing to fall back on…Save for a rainy day? Hardly…Buy the biggest house take the big vacations, run up the credit card debt…”want my kids to have what I didn’t have”…on and on and on. I don’t think these people could even make a mortgage payment if they took a cut in pay, that’s why the workers are scared. The thug bosses don’t carte about that though, they only want to secure union dues for union pensions and oh yeah, salaries for all the lying they do. As Conservatives we have nothing to fear, we have towed the line, stayed back from the traps and have been pragmatic. In the end the truth will win. Truth has no agenda and most anyone with a sane brain will recognize the truth eventually.

    Typical leftist tactic…. they don’t have the numbers, Conservatives outnumber the moucher-class 2 to 1, so they have to scrap the bottom of the barrel and find anyone with a heart-beat to hold a sign for a pack of cigarettes to come rally for their side….

    So while on the Conservative and Tea Party side, we have a true, honest real grass-roots movement…

    On the left they have a back alley, gutter, homeless shelter movement…

    These people could NEVER make it in the real world, working in the private sector and having to be accountable for coming into work, working a full days work, working and competing for raises and promotions, so they have to hide behind the bullying tactics of Trumka and Obama to lash out for them, so that these lazy good for nothings can keep working their cushy union overpaid jobs…

    They do that here in my Home Town with the local Walmarts. The United Commercial Food Workers get paid more to picket than they do working at their regular work. It’s a joke with the parking lot always full, the shelves always picked over and all the union jackets inside looking for a deal.

    The unions are hiring the homeless because hiring their own people WOULD COST TOO MUCH! They get paid minimum wage with no breaks for coffee or lunch, and NO BENEFITS! This allows them to keep the leg breakers handy for the opportunity to beat up on counter protests which are expected in Wisconsin today.

    I’ll tell the carpenters union members in Mich. You have priced yourselves out of the market. No longer can the housing market afford you. Saw it happen in Ca. I was a union carpenter for most of my life in Ca. Until the Unions destroyed the publics ability to afford a union carpenter. How does the old saying go. How Low can you go? What you are doing is pretty low.

      Had a friend from church in the 80′s who was a union carpenter. He was always out of work because there just weren’t enough union jobs. He and his family moved from house to house, always behind on their rent and leaving a slough of unpaid debt behind them. I was a Builder and offered him a job. He wouldn’t take it unless it was cash, so that he could keep his insurance benefits. So, he remained in poverty just for insurance while he could have had a regular (good) income and afford a decent life. The mindset of the union worker (at least those who are pro-union and not just forced because of their job affiliation such as nurses and teachers, is broken. They can’t think of any alternatives because the corruption of the union system is just too powerful for their minds to think out of the box. Very sad indeed. Same goes for those who are working in the non-private market (public employment. Unions will have to disappear or be greatly weakened before the tides will turn and a healing can begin.

      Unions have outlived their purpose. We now have laws and regulations to protect workers, so there is no need for bargaining units. All they are is a way to legally EXTORT money from companies. Do the workers see any of it? Never. Only the Union bosses. Try checking into their salaries and how they live. Has anyone done that yet? Hey, Breitbart.TV, do your job.

    Relating this to Wisconsin’s protest – yesterday CNN had a ‘journalist’ who was asked if he could see people from outside the state of Wisconsin as part of the protest. He said he did not see any as most of the people he saw was ‘wearing red’ apparently the color of Wisconsin. Really, a red sweat shirt can only be worn by people from the state of Wisconsin, not passed out by the unions busing them in? I guess that is what we now consider in-depth reporting.

      It was, and another interesting bit of trivia is that when Stalin realized how desperate the hopes for the USSR were, in regards to the people he did not appeal to the communist idealology for their call to duty and to war…he called on the “People of the Rodina” or “People of the Mother Russia” and to rise in her defense.

      Interesting that he was a fanatical communist, yet when ideology hit the wall and shattered, he then resorted to national honor and duty to fulfill the needs for the time.

      Thought this might be of some interest, one friend I have here went to a “Communists of America” debate forum (I know, a debate forum among communists is a contradiction in terms), and he asked them ‘why should we follow anyone who has a working brain cell to believe a system that has proven to be a bigger failure in the world history than imperialism, tyranny and all that junk?”

      He was bombasted with the usual rhetoric and garbage slogans of theirs, without one bit of hard proof to back the outrageous claims the Communists tried to make.

      And for the record too, just for reference, Paul, my friend, comes from the former soviet union and has a masters degree in economics here in America, and a History degree from the university of Kiev, in the politics of old mother russia.

Their clothes were mismatched, They were given purses to hold, like they were being dressed for the event. There were nothing in these purses, They were flat, their makeup was all the same color and not put on right. There were a couple college looking kids there with clip boards and when the bused in picketer was done they got their name checked off and handed in their signs. THE REPUBLICANS ARE COWARDS

      If its 19 Republicans to 14 Democrats, then they have a quorum. If they need one democrat then one of the Republicans should switch to Democrat so the vote can be taken. Its as if the GOP is searching for some excuse not to pass this legislation. Let the Democrats stay away until the next election. Grid lock is in our best interest.

      If you don‘t like what they’re doing, then you yourself ought to bribe the homeless by giving to them in abundance.

      These people are exploiting them.

      Invest in people.

      wallyrenfaw;

      No one is blaming the poor ‘down and out’ers for getting a pay check. The problem is who is paying them and why. The union won‘t pay union scale for ’strikers’. What hypocrites. If the union members thought the union had a claim, they would be on the picket line – no union members – no claim. Hypocrites!

      More jobs ‘saved or created’ by stimulus funds.

      Now you see how the circle of corruptions works:

      Obama gives our tax dollars to state governments as “stimulus.”
      State government give money to state employees.
      State employees give the money to their union.
      The union hires protesters to demand more money from taxpayers.
      Go back to start.

      @Gerrymanderer

      I‘m not sure if you’re trying to obscure the lines intentionally.

      But there’s a key distinction between public and private sector unions.

      If a private company makes too many concessions, eventually the company will go broke and greed will take its natural course, the union will be ‘busted’ by the realities of the market system, and a fitter competitor will grow in its place.

      In the public sector, leaders make concessions with no such concern. After all, they reason, the taxpayer is a bottomless well. But when their concessions to the unions eventually bankrupt the government, we‘re not going to like the ’fitter competitor’ that grows in its place.

      I was in THREE unions in my working career. All they did was take money from my paycheck so I could work. If I didn‘t join the union I didn’t get the job. Any other time it would be called its true name “EXTORTION”!!!.

      @J.C.

      I concur. I was in a no-opt-out union once also.

      The thing I noticed is in a union environment the managers are always cast in an adversarial role. And they respond accordingly.

      Ever since, I’ve avoided unions. I’ve found relations with owners/managers in non-union workplaces is usually more of a team effort where you work with managers as friends and peers in order to beat the competition instead of each other.

      I was in the IBEW back in the seventies. They used to hire bums to do the picketing when it was called for because all of the union members went fishing! When we finally went back to work, they assessed us another dollar a week each on our duesfor three months as a penalty for not showing up on the picket lines. The problem sprang from the fact that the rank and file did not want to walk off the job, (it was not over wages but over something trivial the employer wanted us to do that the leadership thought was worth another body on the job), but the leadership insisted we strike. I was glad. The kingfish run had started. I got to fish and some alkie got a few days work on the picket line.

      Yes… And while Ms. Pelosi labeled the Tea Party movement as an “astroturf” movement, she “stands in solidarity” with this “grass roots” movement…

      With the Progressives, up is down, left is right, red is blue, and bad is good… American Patriots? Bad: Racist, Anti-Immigrant, Nativist, Protectionist, Backwards… Anti-American Globalists? Good: Non-Racist, Pro-Immigrant, Open Borders, Spread the Wealth, Modern…

      These Progressives are turning our country upside-down!

      Another real irony or hypocrisy here is that the taxpayers are not only paying for the demonstrations by the “poor teachers”(even though their average salaries and benefits are significantly higher than the national average), they are also paying for the extra security and the busses in demonstrators.

Remember only 50% of the unions are PROGRESSIVES the other is CONSERVATIVES..BTW they also advertise at colleges for protesters.. they pay 9.65 an hour.. THOSE are the so called YOUTH movement..it’s become such a joke.. at least the right isn’t PAYING people.. although we should really be fighting fire with fire.. if we don‘t it’s OUR loss
