Michael Moore & Elisabeth Hasselbeck Spar Over Osama bin Laden‘s ’Execution’

Michael Moore and Elisabeth Hasselbeck — also known as “oil” and “water” — had a fiery debate on Wednesday’s edition of “The View.”
While Moore believes it would have been prudent (and moral) to try bin Laden in the court of law, Hasselbeck stands firmly — and quite vocally — opposed to the idea.
While the liberal filmmaker was on the show to promote his new book, “Here Comes Trouble,” the conversation quickly diverted into a heated discussion about the world’s most notorious terrorist. According to The Huffington Post, Moore said that bin Laden was “executed” and he went on to claim that America had “lost something of our soul” for not putting him up on trial instead.

“I think that we did a very smart thing putting the Nazis on trial,” [Moore] began. “That was after the war was over,” Hasselbeck cut in.
“The war is over,” Moore said. “Michael, we’re still at war!” she snapped.
“No, we’re not, actually,” Moore snapped back

Posted on September 15, 2011 at 12:44pmOBL declared war on the US. He never signed a treaty nor asked for negotiations. This was a military action to take out a legitimate military target. It does not matter if he had a gun was acting in a threatening way. The only thing that could or should have saved him was complete and immediate surrender. IF he had surrendered THEN there should have been a trial for the many crimes he committed. He did not so we shot him. This however does not fit Moore’s twisted ideology.
Moore’s entire vision of the world is shaped by his ideology. He will never see anything that does not fit within his dim view of the world. It is not worth ones breath to even raise a question to people like him. Pray for him and move on.

I know they wanted to try some terrorists in civilian court. Then some miracle happens because of a mistrial or something, and we release him out into the wild again?
Or the trial turns into the most obnoxious media event of the century, or he gets life in prison. Could you guys imagine the fallout?
I think it’s better for everyone that it happened the way it did.

Report Post »Plus it’s a catch-22. We find him guilty? Critics will say it was fixed. We find him not-guilty? Critics will say justice wasn’t served.
If war’s purpose is to break the will of the enemy to fight, then his death at the hands of our military serves the purpose of winning it. Anything less just makes closure and a return to peace harder. Yeah, some extremist Muslims will complain, but let them, as long as they remain peaceful. Love us or hate us, I won’t ask anyone to legislate thoughts–but be afraid of justice.

I thought you might find these definitions helpful: (a) capital punishment (noun) the punishment of death for a crime; death penalty. (b) re·venge verb (used with object) to exact punishment or expiation for a wrong on behalf of, especially in a resentful or vindictive spirit.
UBL was a bloodthirsty mass murderer, deserving of execution. He had 10 years to repent of his actions after 9/11. He never did, and was planning MORE murders.

As long as he (or anyone who joins his forces) is at war with our country he is a legitimate target for any military operation. He was killed as part of a military operation. The only way he would be eligible for a trial is if he threw up his arms and surrendered, and was subsequently captured. There is no evidence that he did so he was shot and killed.
This battle was no different than any other battle on any other battle field anywhere in the world. If OBL deserved a trial then so did every person on every battle field everywhere. By the same token all of our military personnel should be on trial for murder. Under this concept we could never defend ourselves as a nation when attacked (do you contest that we were indeed attacked by OBL). This is just how war works. I wish it did not have to be like that but as long as there is evil in the world it does.
