Michele Bachmann Officially Suspends Her Presidential Campaign

Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann announced that she will be suspending her campaign in a much-anticipated speech this morning. Bachmann, who performed poorly in the Iowa caucuses on Tuesday, had earlier canceled her campaign trip to South Carolina.

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann
News of the suspension was widely expected in media following Bachmann’s dismal Iowa performance (she came in sixth place). Prior to the official announcement, CBS News reported:
A senior Republican official familiar with the congresswoman’s plans told CBS News partner National Journal that Bachmann came to the decision to effectively end her run, recognizing that “there was no viable way forward.”
Speaking at a news conference in Des Moines, Bachmann said she had “no regrets” about her campaign and said she ran her race with integrity. During her address, Bachmann mentioned liberty, conviction and the “principles of freedom and justice.” Additionally, she took aim at President Obama and the “socialized medicine” plan that he has enacted (Obamacare).
“While a congresswoman by title, a politician I have never been nor will I ever hope to be,” she said. “I ran because I believed that, since day one, Barack Obama’s policies, based on socialism, are destructive to the very foundation of the republic.”
Watch a portion of Bachmann’s statement, here:
She pledged to continue fighting against Obama’s socialistic ideals, while also railing against crony capitalism, among other promises.
“I have decided to stand aside,” she continued. “Make no mistake. I will continue to be a strong voice…”
This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for updates.

Rick Santorum’s powerful finish in the Iowa caucus is bringing fresh attention to his tenure in Congress, including ethics questions that dogged him about a preferred mortgage he received from a bank run by campaign donors, and federal funds that went to a real estate developer who backed his charity.
One of the top donors to Santorum’s charity was also the beneficiary of an $8 million Santorum-sponsored federal earmark, according to published reports. Melanie Sloan, a former federal prosecutor who filed an ethics complaint against Santorum in 2006 on behalf of a watchdog group, said her organization’s website received a tidal wave of visitors in the past 24 hours, and in an interview she said she believes people will discover that the GOP presidential contender is “hardly the moral paragon he purports to be.”
Why is this coming out now? Why not during Iowa and “the surge”?

Of course, for a Tea Party member who follows the Constitution, that’s pretty much as horrible a candidate as you can get. If you’re a fiscal conservative, Santorum is the worst of the top three from Iowa.

Now see, I find that funny. I see him as an old curmudgeon. He doesn’t take guff from people, and he’s not politically correct like, say, Romney would be. A wonderful person? I’m not sure about that with ANYONE running for president. However, could he be a wonderful president? Definitely.
What do you think he doesn’t understand about the rest of the world? That our allies need to take care of themselves? That our Middle Eastern “friends” don’t deserve bribes? That the US cannot remain fiscally solvent nor avoid blowback by policing the world? That the UN hamstrings us more than it helps us? That starting a war today in a foreign country will cause the next generation there to hate us? That *shockingly* our short-sighted foreign policy blunders have consequences for years to come?
Really, Ron Paul seems like the only person with a firm grasp on international politics.

But i am off point….Paul’s social views are liberal libertarian..NOT conservative..which puts him actually to the left of moderate Democrats, and 75% of America, when it comes to gay marriage, drug legalization, abortion, and national defense and the military.
His ideas on financial issues and Constitutional Law are actually to the right of the conservative position, which is the only segment of issues where Paul is near conservative. Now while I believe he is on the right tract with much of these, I feel he goes too far on some.
and that is why Paul will never get elected…when push comes to shove…those left of center – if it feels good do it as long as nobody else is hurt people that switch party or are independents just to vote for Paul – will vote for Obama in the general…not Paul..

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 3:04pmI find it funny that people would criticize social liberals. Social liberalism is basically founded on the Constitution. Both sides of the isle have a grasp on the Constitution. The left appreciate the Constitution in their own way, by believing in civil and individual liberties on social issues. Such as drug use, pro-choice, homosexuals, etc. The right has their hand in the Constitution through their design for fiscal conservatism. Lower taxes, less spending, no welfare programs, etc.
The problem is, the right somehow believes that their social conservative somehow is Constitutional. Technically, is it not. The perfect balance of Constitutionality is Libertarianism. That belief took the Constitutional position on social and economical issues.
So don’t go around claiming to be a Constitutionalist if you only believe in applying to HALF of your belief system. A Constitutionalist would understand that individual liberties trumps their PERSONAL OPINIONS. Such is Ron Paul’s position.

“after hearing that Ron Paul is in bed with Barney Frank and George Soro’s”
Paul gets support from people on the right and left. His antiwar stance is appealing to both sides. He has gotten money from both sides. But George soros does not like ron paul. at all. I think there are some articles out there that say he has gotten money from a foundation that soros is involved in. the bildaberg guys hate ron paul and thats where george soros is. Ron paul is not a globalist. He is not for open boders and a north american union. im sorry but that statement is wrong. If it was true than I wouldnt say anything, but its not.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 12:03pmHeck, Santorum wasn’t even on the radar this whole year and all of a sudden, he’s your man. Do some homework. This guy is a nice guy, but he can’t win against Obama. No hard right candidate can. He would be a gift to the left. He would be decimated. Let me guess…you can’t stand the thought of a Mormon in office? Figures.

I’ve already posted how absurd it is to think that Commie/New World Order Soros would want a constitutionalist in the whitehouse. Where are you getting this crap from?

The Sustainable Defense Task Force was formed in response to
a request from Representative Barney Frank (D-MA), working
in cooperation with Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC),
Representative Ron Paul (R-TX), and Senator Ron Wyden
(D-OR), to explore possible defense budget contributions to
deficit reduction efforts that would not compromise the essential security of the United States.
Here are the members of Barney Frank’s “Sustainable Defense Task Force” and their affiliations, for identification purposes.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 12:07pmI admire her too. It‘s too bad our world is so cruel and hardcore that we don’t flock to good people to serve our country. I think Mitt or Rick S are good people too, but the only one capable (with an arsenal) to win is Mitt. He is also the only one with enough financial background to start digging us out of this economic crisis.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 11:56amCurious as to what makes her a loon? Its easy to toss words around. It takes much more forethought and skill to provide facts to support ones opinion. To compare Bachmann to Prez Obama is laughable. It clearly shows you either have no idea of what you are talking about or you are just writing things to get attention.

Report Post »momprayn
Posted on January 4, 2012 at 11:42amI’m sure Michelle fully thought God wanted her to run ….and perhaps He did. Just because she may not be our next President doesn‘t mean He didn’t want her to run for other reasons — to make known nationally her deep convictions and plans, etc. that would help our goal of defeating Obama, etc. It probably helped in ways we may not know. It also doesn‘t mean she won’t be chosen to be in a very important, authoritative position in the next Admin. to help further. Same goes for the others — we must be encouraged to know that God is always in control and if, “we the people”, will repent, pray, act – He WILL intervene to make sure we have someone who will restore us…..along with a majority in the Senate, but we must have enough “numbers” to recognize this. I believe He allowed Obama to become President to wake us up to the severity of our problems – that’s what it usually takes, unfortunately. Note that many are being exposed for what’s really going on — that is encouraging in itself. I like Santorum & glad he only lost first place by 8 votes. That is encouraging also. And I still haven’t given up on Sarah Palin. who knows. Onward and upward conservatives !!!!!!!!

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 12:25pm@MOMPRAYN I am also a christian. I have studied the end times plus I read a lot about what is going on in the world today and I try to see if it ties together, as far as the end times, and the antichrist.
Report Post »To me it would seem crazy for people to think Obama and another 4 years will get us out of this mess.
If Obama won the election it could tie the anti christ comming on the scene. As I am sure you know the anti-christ comes at a time when the world is in a huge turmoil. It would fit if Obama won. Not that he would be the antichrist but another link to the end times. Who ever wins it will b
e very interesting to see how Europe and the Middle East will be effected.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 1:04pmI’ve studied the same things, Sweat. These are, indeed, interesting times we are living in. The world stage certainly seem to be setting for what was foretold in Revelation almost 2,000 years ago. It is always phenomenal to me how unbelievers don’t study prophecy and become astounded at what has already taken place. One of the many reasons I believe the Bible is because I can see firsthand how the world is becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah. Unlike Buddhist beliefs, we are surely not morally improving. Exactly as the Bible foretold, the entire world is becoming increasingly evil. Pride, corruption, power and greed rule the day. I am incredibly saddened by how much money has been given to defeat poverty in third world countries. Mankind likely could have solved famine and hunger if it weren’t for evil. But, again, Jesus knew this which is why He said “the poor will always be among you”.
Even though I know how horrific the end times will be, I eagerly anticipate them and hope it happens soon or at least in my lifetime. :-)

What is the biggest issue that we are all voting for this year? Out of control spending, exponential increase in US debt, lack of jobs, the economy sucks if you haven’t noticed. Why is Obama so bad? The answer is he is a socialist that tramples all over the constitution. So what is the fix for this? Romney? Gingrich? Perry? Santorum? Another good ol’ boy john McCain clone who will back off the gas slightly. Their records show that they are socialism light. All I know is Paul has the plan to fix the economy and it slashes spending and bureaucracies on the way. He follows the constitution to a T as proven by his record. Is that scary??? We can’t afford not to elect someone who will turn the country around. The 2015 US debt projection if we keep the current pace is $24,000,000,000,000.00? Don’t worry we’ll never get there, the dollar will crash first. The economy needs fixing. Quit whining about foreign policy. When we get the debt and spending under control you can go back to nation building and playing world police man.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 9:16pmSantorum actually said “birth control is dangerous to America”. How’s that supposed to play in a general election?
Every candidate is fatally flawed but one. And Romney can’t win in November. When Republicans rejected Huntsman out-of-hand I knew the party had gone off the deep crazy end. He is mega-intelligent, has arguably the best resume for the oval office since Eisenhauer or Johnson, has served three administrations, has been both a successful executive as governor and an effective diplomat as ambassador. I actually think he could and would beat Obama in November, and hope the party learns it’s lesson and nominates him in 2016. By then perhaps Republicans will realize that refusing to kiss up to the tea partiers is a reason to support a candidate, not reject one.
