Michelle Malkin Tells TheBlaze Why She’s Endorsing Ted Cruz for Congress (And Why Is She Channeling Joe Biden?)

Michelle Malkin Talks to TheBlaze About Ted Cruz, FreePAC and the Tea PartyWith wildfires ravaging homes across Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, and in the aftermath of the devastating shooting rampage in Aurora, conservative journalist Michelle Malkin has been experiencing a tumultuous summer in her adopted home state. Nonetheless, the author and mother of two wouldn’t miss coming to Dallas, Texas, to participate in FreedomWorks’ grassroots training session for the world. And she’s gave TheBlaze an exclusive interview ahead of the massive event.

Editor’s Note: Restoring Love will be exclusively broadcast by TheBlaze TV/GBTV and video will also be available on demand after the event.

FreePAC and grassroots training

While there are many events to partake in during FreePAC and Restoring Love, Malkin is perhaps most inspired by the grassroots training session slated to take place on July 26, because it is the “next great development in the Tea Party movement” and it’s happening right under the media radar.

“All the smug Beltway reporters who pronounced the Tea Party dead before it was even alive have no idea what is really going on,” Malkin explained.

“The Tea Party has matured — they’re doing the nuts and bolts work of developing future generation of limited government leaders.” Malkin told TheBlaze that it is the success of these emerging limited government leaders, and the fact that they are turning words and protests into “concrete action,” that the Republican and Democratic National Committees fear most.

What is perhaps most ironic is that the Tea Party was born not so much out of a response to the election of Barack Obama, but rather out of disgust for big government Republicans who had lost their way. Malkin pointed out that is why one of the Tea Party’s first orders of business was actually to topple Republican Senator Bob Bennett from Utah.

Still, the struggle against less-than conservative Republicans continues in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Affordable Care Act. Malkin noted that there are GOP lawmakers who will actually seek to extend certain core provisions of Obamacare, which is why she believes it is so important for conservatives to send a message to Republicans in the Beltway by electing a new generation of leaders who will not just “go along with every capitulist leader on the hill.”

Ted Cruz

So who are the stand-outs in the next generation of limited government, free market leaders? When I asked Malkin, she didn’t hesitate an instant before sharing her enthusiasm for Texas congressional hopeful Ted Cruz.

Cruz is by far and away, a rising star within the Tea Party and broader conservative movement. The former Solicitor General of Texas (the youngest in the nation to date) has authored over 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and personally argued 40 oral arguments, including 9 before the U.S. Supreme Court. He’s been a guest on the Glenn Beck program and is receiving a steady stream of accolades from conservative leaders from all over the country.

“Ted Cruz is a wonderful scholar, lawyer and conservative,” Malkin said. He is the “ideal Tea Party candidate. His roots are in the grassroots.“ She also said the first generation Cuban American is someone who possesses the ”intellectual gravitas” Beltway elites are always deriding the Tea Party for supposedly lacking. To wit, Malkin had a humorous and rather astute jab of her own for those Beltway elites: a Tea Party member without a law degree is a lot savvier and far more grounded that lawmakers slinging mud in the “Beltway Swamp.”

For Malkin and many conservatives at FreePAC and beyond, Cruz isn’t just a “run of the mill politician who speaks the Tea Party language.” He has argued cases before the Supreme Court, even winning a 10th Amendment case and has just just gone toe-to-toe with liberals but even the Bush administration as well. ”People feel he can be trusted,” Malkin said during our conversation. “That he won’t be corrupted when he gets to D.C.”

“He’s put the Tea Party pedal to metal.”

But for as formidable as the Texas scholar is, he is bound to face challenges in his upcoming run-off against incumbent Republican David Dewhurst, who is enjoying a steady stream of “big government” money from the party. Still, Malkin remains hopeful as Cruz “did fantastic in his last two debates” and is getting his message out.

The real community organizing

Another way to help small-government conservatives like Ted Cruz, for Malkin, is by spreading the message at grassroots events like FreePAC. Malkin, who will be speaking at a grassroots training session prior to the FreePAC main event July 26, said the first thing she will do is thank the activists, because without them “the Tea Party would be nothing.”

“They really are frontline warriors…and every voice counts.”

They count especially because, she said, of the hypocrisy of the Left in its attacks against conservative activists. In one breath, progressives like Van Jones will “trash the Tea Party” with pejoratives like “top-down, astroturf robots,“ then attend a Netroots conference and rally his base to ”copy the Tea Party model” of grassroots organizing.

In fact, Jones heaped effusive praise on the organizing capability of the Tea Party in his book, “Rebuild the Dream.” Ironic, considering that community organizing is something the Left often “pats itself on the back” for “cornering the market” on.

Spreading its wings

Politics are evolving. Ever since the emergence of the Tea Party, conservative activism and tangible political change is being affected from outside the halls of Washington and New York — for perhaps the first real time ever. And Malkin has “never been more excited about the conservative movement” because of it.

The change has, of course, “upset strategists” and those who control the news cycle, which proves to many that the paradigm shift is working.

Sure, Malkin cedes, FreedomWorks maintains an office in D.C., but the real grassroots training is occurring outside. “It’s great that conservatives no longer have to call New York or D.C. home.” In fact, holding events in Dallas, Texas is just one “manifestation of that evolution.”

The “injection of fresh air from outside the Beltway,” is invigorating and inspiring for Malkin. “I think that’s why i am so sanguine and positive about the future of conservative movement,” she said.

In terms of FreePAC, its grassroots training session and Restoring Love as a whole, Malkin believes this kind of networking is invaluable regardless of who is elected in 2012.

“More than ever,” she adds, “we are ready to be a stalwart opposition [of the Left].”

Challenges ahead for conservatives

Invoking an old phrase made popular by the ever-gaffe-ful Joe Biden, Malkin joked that we all have to “gird our loins” and be prepared for anything — especially when dealing with the “by any means necessary” modus operandi of progressives and Washington elite.

Malkin also believes it is worth heeding that even physical threats have been leveled against conservatives in the past. Some have been harassed at home and work for sharing their beliefs openly. The Brett Kimberlin case, in which conservative bloggers have been the consistent target of frivolous lawsuits and even a dangerous prank dubbed “SWATting,” is just one example of the nefarious tactics a contingent of leftists will resort to.

The syndicated columnist praised the synergy between conservative activism on the web and what Glenn Beck and others are doing with multimedia platforms as the future of political outreach. “In a way it’s evangelical because you are reaching out.” Likewise, mediums such as talk radio are also powerful movers. It’s not just about “preaching to the choir” for Malkin, who believes that even the unlikeliest of people might tune in, listen, and be inspired by what they hear.

“I’ve been listening to talk radio since college,” she told me. “You never know who will tune in and listen… You never know who might be moved or inspired [by what they hear.]”

Conservatives will face challenges ahead, but those challenges should come from external sources, not from within their own ranks or selves. That is why, for Malkin, it is of utmost importance that conservative do not succumb to a defeatist attitude that says: “my voice doesn’t make a difference.”

“That is untrue,” Malkin asserted.

“Becoming a part of this community is invaluable.”

There is an obvious fear among the “LIBERAL LITE” republicans, and the fear is getting stronger. As of today, every republican politician is on notice, that they had better toe the line of the conservatives or they will be out of a job. Even the old guard republicans that have their homes in the Washington-New York complex are beginning to worry. These people, like Lyndsey Graham and John McCain are either going to toe the conservative line or be voted out of office, like that one from Indiana. There is a fresh wind blowing into Washington, and these OLD GUARD republicans don’t like it one bit.

“As of today, every republican politician is on notice”

Every republican politician except mitt Romney, right? Didn’t see his feet put to the conservative flame by the wannabe conservative media elite. Many posters on the blaze also compromised their principles by not testing the conservative mettle of mittens. Those of us who did were told to shut up and accept him as our progressive “R” candidate.

Somehow I doubt establishment run groups like freedomworks will stand by conservative principles. More of the same from the progressives who run the party.

Michelle Malkin is a community organizer just like Obama. Need I say more? We don’t need any more communism in the country, thank you very much.

I take it she was born in this country to parents who immigrated, but she IS NOT a “natural born citizen” and she is therefore ineligible to vote. Plus her foreign heritage makes her suspect. She may be, besides being an anchor baby, someone sympathetic to the communists in the Philippines:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Party_of_the_Philippines

She’s infiltrated FOX news under cover and is insinuating herself into the the right wing blogosphere in order to eventually spread the the communist doctrine of her home country. She’s a plant. You know it, I know it. I only hope she isn’t using her connections to find out and transfer classified information to her communist comrades in the Philippines.

Romney may not be a poster child for the conservative movement; but, he’s what we wound up with this time around. If you want better choices next time, back them in the primaries.

Sadly it takes private citizens doing their own homework to get a clear view of who these people really are and what they truly stand for. This is very disturbing to me the way the media be it MSNBC or Fox promotes presidential candidates. It’s like we now have a liberal media in MSNBC and a passively conservative media in Fox. Fox and talk radio bash Obama and promote Romney. MSNBC bashes Romney and promotes Obama. For crying out loud these people are supposed to give us the facts, and its just getting worse. It’s like I told TRANCE; I just cannot bring myself to vote for the progressive establishment any longer. I really do hope Obama does not win again, but I feel this country still hasnt learned it’s lesson about the esablishment yet. If they did; Romney would not be the front runner. There’s another Michelle who is making waves in Congress and not backing down under incredible pressure even from her own supposed party-members. We need to be like these two Michelle’s and 1) do our research 2) follow the leads 3) state our findings 4) don’t back down. Conservatives are, by nature, a group who doesn’t like to argue, but as Ecclesiastes says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” I believe it’s not only our time to stand our ground, but time to defend our right to exist and to defend the law that defines our right to exist. This is our time. Let’s roll.

      Brother Smith

You‘re intractable devotion to Paul is akin to Mathew’s adulation (tingling) for Obama. You are more in line with a socialist‘s stance than a conservative’s. Of course you have the right to believe in Paul, of course he has some great Constitutional positions things like, ‘investigate the Fed.’ Of course you have the right to not like Romney or vote for him. I personally don’t like him either, but given the option of him or obama, the decision is easy.

You can be as indignant as you like, but I suspect you realize, whether you’ll admit it or not, that a vote for Paul is a vote for obama. Principle is one thing, stupidity is another. Not stupid for loving Paul and wanting him to be president, but for helping the worst, most destructive, anti-AMERICAN president in the history of this country. If that justifies voting for Paul, if that is reason for you to pump up your chest and be proud, then do it. But in another 2-3 years, when we are buried in taxes taking as much as 70% of our hard earned income for welfare programs and green company bankruptsies, subject to Sharia and UN enforced global laws, the increased radical personnage in OUR government (what new CZARS will a second term bring?); the government deciding what car you can buy and how many miles a year you can drive; what you can eat; rationing; teaching gay lifestyle to children, the disappearance of our ‘inalienable rights;’ you can ask yourself, did my vote for Paul help bring all this

BrotherWinston, Yea, it looks like Malkin‘s fans decided to use a situation to make Alex’s fans look like crazy people. I’m not totally convinced she conspired to make it happen though. I‘ve watched about 3hrs of Alex’s main videos on youtube. He makes a very convincing case against the government’s possible involvement in 911, and a NWO. They make me think about Ron Paul’s insistance that we stop all of these unconstitutional wars. I’m all for kicking ass and taking names, but not this world police the U.S. has been playing at over the years. The progressive leaders that are given to us have an obvious world ideal in their minds. Ron Paul is the only man who has the U.S.’s best intrests playing at the forefront in his decision making process.

p.s. I like the scoreboard thing you do. It gives people the chance to go look it up right then and there. It shows a clearer picture of politicians long term voting records, and the liberal ideals they try to hide. Shows them to be the weather vane Flip Floppers they are, and how they care for nothing except the power they gain and winning the next election.

Trance You’re Right too. I understand why you are voting for Romney. Most everybody I know personally is going to do the same thing.

It all comes down to principals with me. I just cannot bring myself to vote for a progressive ever again. I have seen what progressives are doing. They want to progress past the constitution and the Bill of Rights and make them play second fiddle to a new world ideal. I will not take part in voting for a Socialist in Romney or a Communist in Obama. I will ONLY vote for a STRICT constitutionalist in Ron Paul. If that means Obama might win again so be it. The establishment rulers want Obama or Romney. I will spend my puny little vote on Constitutional Liberty and Freedom. Mitt Romney does not fit that description.
It is a crying shame that wanting these things our Founding Fathers gave us makes me an extremist. It just goes to show how far progressivism has come in infecting the minds of the people in this country. If extremist is my new lable…FINE, I happily accept that label.

It is easy for one to believe that a single voice doesn’t matter. With government’s (federal) explosive and expansive growth, an individual’s voice is drown out by so many others. That is why the founders designed a government with people near their most important elected officials. Progressives have been working for a long time separating the individual from that (local) government (the first ten constitutional amendments strengthened state and personal freedoms, subsequent amendments strengthened federal government). So, Michelle, I have to disagree with you here, but hope and pray that we can restrain the fed’s growth; and restore the original model.

Comrades if we have the necessary time left, men like Ted Cruz might be able to work to fix our country. But time is our enemy along with every self seeking dumb communist around the world! They are coming at us from many directions. Look for a middle eastern war they we will be sucked into, shortly. Look for a major financial crises of worldwide proportions before our elections. Look for more and larger civil disturbances within our country and a far more active Jihad beginning in September within America also!
Should be an interesting fall. Of course, that is in the ancient Chinese curse sort of way.

Good job! You’ve peddled the requisite amount of fear to keep any ********* happy. You should be quite proud. How do you come up with this nonsense?

Winedude…..Historyguy (probably born in 1948) has analyzed history up to today and accurately stated the current state of affairs in the world today. Where the hell have you been anyway?

History, hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. From where I am sitting, it looks to be an exciting fall.
