Michelle Obama: People Paint False Image That ‘I’m Some Angry Black Woman’

First Lady Michelle Obama appeared earlier today on CBS’s “This Morning,” where she addressed a number of issues. Among them, she commented on her true feelings about living in the White House and she took on the alleged perception that she’s an “angry black woman.”
When asked about how she perceives her experience as first lady, she said, ”I love this job. It has been a privilege from day one.” While she and Barack have been able to handle the ups and downs, she said that her only real fears surround how her daughters will be impacted by the presidency.
“If there’s any anxiety that I feel, it’s because I want to make sure that my girls come out on the other end of this whole,” she told host Gayle King.
When it comes to allegations that she and former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel didn’t get along, she essentially denied them, calling Emanuel and his wife “friends.”
“Rahm and I have never had a cross word,” Obama said. “I don’t have conversations with my husbands staff. I don’t go to meetings.”
But the really surprising quotes came when Obama addressed the notion that people have painted her as an “angry black woman” and “a strong woman.” During the exchange, she said:
“I guess it’s more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here and a strong woman and a, you know… But that’s been an image that people have tried to paint of me since, you know, the day Barack announced — that I’m some angry black woman.”
She said that she attempts to get past these perceptions by simply trying to be herself. “I just try to be me and my hope is that over time people get to know me and they get to judge me for me,” she explained.

“Spread” hate and ignorance? I would disagree with that statement, but the answer to your question is simple. Many people are very dissatisfied with the liberal entitlement mentality of which the Obamas are part. Michell’s comment was very telling, she IS an angry black woman. I would presume most of us have nothing against blacks or women, but she is a product of what she sows. If you act like a fool you will be treated like one…If you act like an angry, black woman you will be treated as one.
Are many of the comments in here unfair? Certainly. It goes with the territory. But you should come off your high horse if you think it is a “right only” phenomenon. Go surf HuffPo for awhile. Or watch MSNBC. There is more “hate and ignorance” on the left than the right. It is only natural that people will fight fire with fire. Then the problem becomes who will rise above it?

What makes her an angry black woman, though? Is it because when she’s pictured on this site (which is right-leaning, quite obviously), it’s with unflattering pictures that show her scowling? And I’m sure on left-leaning sites she’s shown with a big smile and children all around her.
Point is: we don’t know Michelle Obama. She’s being written about and stereotyped. I don’t like being stereotyped – no one does. We have no insight to her demeanor whatsoever.
And I don’t mean to seem on my high-horse. My first comment mentioned the fact that Republicans are often stereotyped as uneducated hicks. We just say a bunch of crap about each other because it’s easy. And then we’re essentially avoiding what we all really want: a stable government and a stable life. We make enemies out of each other, rather than listening to each other’s side.
As for what I’m doing here, it was in an attempt to learn. The media is left leaning and so are many of my news sources. But I stopped to comment because I study linguistics, and I don‘t think people understand the importance of the language they’re using and how much it sets us all back.

I’ve only seen the term used in relation to her once lately- in the same book that first reported the Obamas’ Mad Hatter Halloween party, that said she wanted to phone in her FLOTUS duties from Chicago, & that she said (even back then) she didn’t want to be painted as an angry black woman.
Well, we know the party happened. Strike 1.
It’s also been repeatedly reported that she hates being FLOTUS (comments to Sarkozy’s wife come to mind). Lends credence to her wanting to stay in DC. Strike 2.
Since she keeps defending herself against a charge nobody’s making (likely because the person saying it would be shouted down as a racist), should we be taking a closer look at the “false” charge in question?
Let me rephrase- I don’t give any time or attention to anyone calling me a racist, bigot, hatemongering homophobe (I’m a Conservative… goes with the territory) b/c I know it’s not true. Wouldn’t it stand to reason that if there was nothing to the “angry black woman” thing, she’d simply ignore it b/c she knows it’s not true?
The way I see it, 2 possibilities exist:
1. It‘s true and she’s defensive about it, or,
2. This is a subtle playing of the race card to start riling up the minority base b/c their O-theusiasm has been low for a long time now. In other words, they‘re panicking because the ’08 O-zombies are seeing through the 0′12 O-pixie dust.

I predicted that there would be an anger to COME after the Pride of the Election of the First Black Man to the High Office. Anger almost always follows pride. I trued skiing out in UT a few years ago. I gave up when a group of 4-year-olds zipped past me on the bunny slopes with no poles. I threw my poles down and stalked off in search of the nearest spa. Hey, after falling down umpteen million times, I needed a massage!

Obama has taken about 61 days of vacation in the 31 months he’s been in office… at this time, Bush has taken about 180. I find it amusing how people on here are so quick to make uninformed judgements and hold things against Obama (some things absolutely should be. don’t think I support everything coming out of DC) while Bush did the same, if not worse, things.

We know her bloated and unneccessary staff (some 25 -44 staffers) alone comes at a “staggering taxpayer cost of $1.75 million per year.
