Michelle Obama to Celebrate Anti-Childhood Obesity Program at ‘Healthier’ Olive Garden

Next week marks the second anniversary of First Lady Michelle Obama’s anti-childhood obesity “Let’s Move” program. To ring in the festivities, Mrs. Obama will host a round table discussion in Fort Worth, Texas on February 9th with parents committed to healthier eating. The venue of choice? Home of the never-ending pasta bowl: Olive Garden.

The appearance is due to a pledge made by the restaurant’s parent company, Darden, to offer healthier eating options for children. The corporation which also owns Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse signed a “binding legal agreement” last year to cut calories, offer healthier fruit and vegetable side dishes, reduce sodium and give free refills of one percent milk to children.

The first lady’s Texas appearance is reportedly only one stop along a three-day nationwide push to celebrate the program’s two-year anniversary. Also on the roster are Iowa, Arkansas, Texas and Florida.

This is not the first time Olive Garden has found itself on politically shaky ground. Back in October The Blaze reported that the Darden restaurant came under fire for refusing to allow a Kiwanis Club gathering to display an American flag at their table.

    I stopped going to Olive Garden some time back after I figured out how to make my own Zuppa Toscana and garlic breadsticks. And when I want (crave) fried calamari, I head to Carrabbas, where I can also get a TDF Appletini.

      As sales at Olive Garden have sunk, they‘ve gone up at Italian competitors such as Carrabba’s. At its established restaurants, Carrabba’s sales jumped 6.3 percent last quarter.I Guess her getting them to cut Flavor,Fat,Salt Etc from Their food is paying off for Darden?Serves them right for catering to Communist and donating money to them.

      Went to Olive Garden this week. Used to love their pasta and salad (and I’m obviously part Italian), but the recipes had been changed and it tasted more like something from a box and a microwave than from a restaurant, so I stuck to the salad.

      Imagine if we were to found a nation where you were FREE to eat what you want, when you want, as much or as little as you want! We could even have property rights, and we could create a Constitution that limited the power of government to only being able to protect the rights that God gave us! We could even worship God freely and openly without fear of the government!     I love Olive Garden and would eat there every night if I could–best salads around and the food is great! May have to go eat there next week to spite the Mrs. Robot! No one but my doctor is going to tell me what I should eat, certainly not a person who is not a dietician! Last time I read the bio of Ms. Obama, there was no dietician studies listed! Go blow your words somewhere else lady until you get your dietician license!

      UBTHECHANGE, I agree. BUT I have to say ole Mooshell is workin out these days. I say a commercial for the llen show with Mooshell and Ellen doing pushups. Now if she worked as hard on saving our country instead of destroying it, that would be impressive. She obviously has a personal trainer she has slimmed down and has some hefty muscles.       I‘m not a big fan of McDonald’s or any fast food places but that’s just me personally. I wish people would choose to eat healthier food, but what can ya do?

Guess I‘m glad she is just trying to influence children’s’ eating habits . I was afraid she had another agenda…. ( better to pressure restaurant menus than bank loaning practices ?? well, sort of…)

    I’m a person who eats healthy and works out….but I hate the Olive Garden. No variety at all. When people ask me if I want to go to the Olive Garden I will usually decline. Especially for the price.

    Then again, I’m not a fan of any all you can eat places. Moderation people :)

      I say a censored F word which I’ve seen the writers post in stories on this site.. and say something about her looking like a star wars character… yet moooochelletheapewoman gets to stay.

      No problem. Red Lobster has the cheapest fish they can buy. I don’t eat farm raised salmon for starter..Google about how farm raised fish is fed and what they eat, yikes! Having fished most of my life, I know what’s good and what smells. Red Lobster doesn’t cut it for good food.
      Olive garden used to be good years ago, but in last few years they seem to have very poor quality. They aren’t consistent and when I can fix spaghetti better at home, why go pay for bad food? My favorite used to be eggplant parm. but one time it’s good, the all other times it’s horrid. It always ticks me off to have to pay for really bad food. If it isn’t good, I don’t eat there a 2nd time now.

How about the next time you send her your Brown noser Braindead support, you could ask her and her hubby to go on a diet with all the millions of taxpayer dollars they piss away on her wardrobe and vacations!! Thats a diet we could all eat up!!
