Michelle Obama to Serve as... Grand Marshal of NASCAR 400?Billed as part of first lady Michelle Obama’s “Joining Forces” initiative for military families — and perhaps as a way to woo average American voters — Mrs. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will serve as Grand Marshals of the November 20 season-ending NASCAR Ford 400.

According to the following White House statement, NASCAR will participate in the Joining Forces initiative:

As part of the season-ending NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship race, NASCAR will rally its millions of fans at the speedway and online to serve military families through the holiday season by asking them to visit www.NASCAR.com/Unites and JoiningForces.gov to find service opportunities and ideas to give back to those who serve our country.

The White House says some 5,000 active duty and retired military personnel will attend the event. Military families are then invited to a barbecue where Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden are slated to speak alongside NASCAR officials and drivers.

White House Dossier adds:

Mrs. Obama, who has incurred some bad publicity for taking luxurious jaunts to South Africa and Spain while often being photographed in expensive clothing and accoutrements, has lately been spotted shopping at Target and hanging out at the baseball park, attending the first game of the World Series.

The Ford 400 is held at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. Florida is perhaps the most critical presidential battleground state in the country.

But Mrs. Obama’s presence at one of the biggest NASCAR events of the year will surely be noticed throughout the region where the sport if popular, which includes many other critical swing states like Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Missouri and Missouri.

Indeed, since Mrs. Obama has been making the rounds at the local Target store, critics might argue that the campaign to appear “ordinary” and engage Americans in “fly-over country,” thereby securing their vote for 2012, seems to be well under way.

    Good, because it frees up more time for me now that NASCAR totally sold out their fans. Do they (NASCAR) actually think Barry and “Empty” Joe” and their families really give a flying fig about NASCAR and their fans?

    If you see who owns the television rights to NASCAR’s T.V. rights and website… Ted Turner (married to that traitor Jane Fonda). Talk about revulsion especially finding this crap out on, of all days, Veteran’s Day! These are sick people folks.

      garygrommele……………………. im a nascar fan, and as you said, nascar has sold us out. it will be very diffuccult to watch the race knowing that moochell is the grand marshall. i would like to know why nascar did this. surely they know that the vast majority of their fans are conservative. this might cost nascar some money in the long run. i don’t doubt there will be at least some fans who will think twice before spending their hard earned money for tickets and merchandise when they find out nascar is in bed with the obamas………………………………….

      May God bless keep those that have and do serve for our freedom. I truly thank you all and pray for all of you and the families that have lost these brave ones.
      I pray that the dignity of our armed forces be restored and this administration is stopped before they do any more damage to our military and the honor of those that serve.

      i too am a nascar fan who has been upset with them in the last few years but this is one of the worst thing they could do. nascar fans and drivers are very conservative, heck stewart would not go to the white house a few months back with the only reason given that he had other plans, and he was not alone in that. this is a good ol boy sport which the obamas and dems dont understand and should stay that way. i too support the vets as des nascar and their community as a whole but this is stupid. i am only glad that this is an espn race wich i cannot see so i dont have to watch her.

    I have to say This completely insults me the obamas are trying to reach out to the Nascar class of people and make it look like they care about us, yet he doesn’t find we are important enough to make a personal appearance,how ever if it was a liberal class he was trying to reach he would head on down to their events….either he doesn‘t care or he doesn’t have the nuts to attend an event that isn’t pre-loaded with liberal zombies who love him like manson followers.
