Michelle Obama Tries Hopscotch & Dance Moves With Mumbai Children

MUMBAI, India (AP) — Michelle Obama played hopscotch, danced and sang with 33 disadvantaged children from the Indian charity Make a Difference Saturday at the University of Mumbai.
Almost immediately after arriving at the university’s library, she kicked off her flats and joined in a game of vocabulary-building hopscotch with the 8- to 13-year-old orphans and runaways who receive English-language instruction from Make a Difference volunteers.
“I love dancing. Oh that was fun!” Mrs. Obama said after they danced to theme song from the Bollywood movie, “Rang de Basanti.”
The girls wore their salwar kameez — traditional long shirts and baggy trousers — and glittering dupatta scarves. Mrs. Obama, dressed in an olive blouse and delicate flowered skirt, also joined a drum and tambourine circle with the children. She banged on a tambourine while the kids pounded on drums.
After dancing, she spoke to the children about the importance of an education.
“I didn’t grow up with a lot of money,” Mrs. Obama “I never even imagined being the first lady of the United States. But because I had an education, when the time came to do this, I was ready.”
The kids fell silent after one girl asked a question, so Mrs. Obama urged another round of dancing.
“Let’s dance some more! One more dance!” she said. She was quickly surrounded by a bouncing circle of girls throwing their arms in the air. The boys nearby jumped up and down. Before leaving, the first lady sent each child home with a tote bag stuffed with educational materials — notebooks, pencils and pen — and White House M&Ms.
Jithin Nedumala, 23, who forsook an MBA to help found MAD in 2006, said he hoped Mrs. Obama’s visit would inspire the children he works with.
“We are here to tell the children to dream big,” he said. “They‘re in orphanages and street shelters where they don’t have their parents to push them. Not many people believe in these kids.”

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 6:37amHanding out M&M’s?!!! Chocolate and sugary sweets?!!! And our kids here get dried fruit for Halloween?!! Okay, so dried fruit has tons of sugar in it, I’ll give you that, she thought she was doing our kids some good, but in reality they still got something that was loaded with tons of sugar. The body processes the dried fruit the same as it processes the bags of chips–turns them into sugar and stores them as fat in the body. Seems to me she’s been storing some of her own fat, perhaps for the coming season?! Let’s all remember her famous words while stumping for Barry before the election when she stated “I am finally proud of America.”. She never really had a job at that hospital in Chicago even though they paid her a six-figure salary for part-time work (which has yet to be filled) since she left–hmmmmm. I‘m not impressed with her at all and it’s not because of her skin color it’s because of what comes out of her pie hole and what she has done to this country. Worst 1st Family Ever!!!

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 9:00amI caught that too….we’re not to have “sugar snacks” and the admin hands out M&M’s? Why not an apple? Maybe ‘no sugar added’ fruit roll ups? They should practice what they preach.
On a better note: Both she and the children looked to really be enjoying themselves; I’m glad the children were having such fun. So many of India’s children suffer horrible lives. I do think all the money being spent on this trip could have been better served spent (or saved) here at home though.

Just like I felt those many times I saw BHO bowing to foreign leaders (and the mayor of Tampa). Geez, what an embarrassment. I’ll bet the entire world is laughing their arses off at us. But with the times this country is going through I think their efforts would be much more welcomed here also. It is the timing of the trip and the fact that so much terrorism is going on overseas that bothers me. I think some outlets have blown the cost of this trip way out off the charts, but again we can only go by what they report.

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 5:56amIt would be nice if the obamas cared as much about America‘s economy as they do India’s. They are traveling and acting likes royalty…king and queen… I am left wondering if his real goal is not to redistribute our wealth over to india. And what about the companies that are traveling with him? How do they get special dibs on trade agreements/arrangements. To be actually traveling with the president is an endorsement of the president. Scott…can you do a story on which companies are traveling and getting his endorsement…seems like it might be nice to know..afterall maybe those are the companies to invest in. And a word of caution to India….get ready for SEIU invasion.
I still don’t understand the president spending all of this money when we are hurting at home. I also am looking to understand how does he arbitrarily change previous sanctions? Is that something that needs to go thru Congress? I do not trust this president to have the best interests of our country in his heart. And as far as the impact of the elections…the audacity of him to say he is going ahead with all of his spending on education, infrastructure. etc REGARDLESS of what we believe about that spending. It is willfull blindness on his part to say that he just “didn’t communicate” his message correctly. WRONG! We got his message loud and clear.

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 9:37amStaythecourse — Obama has NEVER done ONE THING good for our nation. Decent people look at him as not knowing what he is doing, or simply having wrong ideas. NOT SO. He is truly anti-America, doing exactly as his puppet-masters desire. He is following their plan… De-development of America.
If you look at what is going on from the perspective of the elites creating a New World Order, all of what is going on makes perfect sense. From the catering to the Muslims, to the bankrupting of America, to the government taking over health care, to the shipping of America’s jobs overseas – FOREVER.

As an uber staunch conservative (neo-con if you will) that has complete disdain for the purpose and overall cost of this trip; I believe there’s no place for direct personal attacks on the First Lady for the size of her arse and feet. Direct personal attacks such as these are cheap, petty and completely discredits everyone else’s REAL concerns/comments as to the overall scope of this trip.
Direct personal attacks turns this forum into nothing more than a rag at best. It would be my firmest belief and conviction comments should be solely based on the facts and issues of any particular subject and NOT PERSONAL
That‘s my story and I’m sticking to it!
