Michelle Obama’s Health Eating Initiative Praised by…Chris Christie!

WASHINGTON (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who says he’s struggled with a weight problem most of his life, he thinks first lady Michelle Obama is doing well to speak in favor of healthy eating and exercise.
Her national initiative targeting childhood obesity has drawn criticism from some conservatives who see the effort as the government trying to exert more control over people’s lives.
Christie tells CBS’ “Face the Nation” that he doesn’t have a problem with the initiative and calls the criticism “unnecessary.” The Republican government does say that the government shouldn‘t be deciding what people can and can’t eat.
Christie says that encouraging kids to eat better is “a really good goal.”

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 4:28pmThere exists a growing list of words and deeds that cast him in anything but a conservative light:
* His budget passed only after three conservative Republicans were bullied into voting for it and the savings achieved in the budget were done at the expense of new taxes, new fees, federal Stimulus funds and accounting gimmicks; the 2% property tax cap will actually cause taxes to skyrocket; he has yet to propose the “across the board” tax cuts he promised as a candidate; the budget actually INCREASES state expenditures by 6% and the number of staff in the Governor’s office making $100,000 per year increases by ten;
* His confrontation with the unions is pure Kabuki theater with nothing accomplished but acrimony; he has yet to lay off a single state employee and his proposed 2011 state worker reduction plan is little more than window dressing;
* He has populated his cabinet with notorious liberals while firing the only true conservative – after slandering him;
* He has endorsed notorious RINO candidates in the 2010 mid-term election while avoiding (with one notable exception) contact with conservative candidates;
* He supports a multi-state Cap & Trade scheme known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and is so committed to Cap & Trade that he used funds raised from RGGI’s carbon auctions to help balance the budget; he has directed that state funds be appropriated to subsidize “green” technology ventures such as off-shore windmills;
* He has refused to join other state attorneys-general in a joint lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare while accepting federal funds for the implementation of a similar program on a statewide level;
* He is on record saying that he does not believe illegal aliens are here illegally; he has indicated that he supports amnesty for illegals; he generally favors strict gun control and he supports construction of the Ground Zero Mosque even as he condemns those who oppose it.

I did not see the interview, but it seems that Christie sees it this way as well by what I read above. A good idea to promote, but not to force it.
Was he asked this question on this liberal show? If so, doesn’t this seem semi-loaded? I mean asking a heavy set guy, and a conservative, about a healthy eating question. Posted on February 27, 2011 at 1:39pmAs someone who has battled the weight problem all his life, I have to agree with Gov. Christie. The only thing that I have to say is that the “survival” genetics of being able to store fat is not a bad thing. It’s a survival adaption from when there were interruptions in the food supply. Those who were able to store a large amount of fat survived, those who couldn’t died when there was a time of famine. The fact that some people think that someone is “overweight” is prejudice pure and simple, the same as a racists prejudice for someone who doesn’t have their skin color. Christie is a survivor in a time when there aren’t famines is all, and that has nothing to do with the logic of his positions and ability to look at a situation and determine the best way to deal with it. He is someone who I would vote for over the “good looking and politically correct Marxist/progressive idiot”

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 3:04pmThe bill in question does not “force” kids to eat healthy foods. Seriously, are you guys simply uniformed or do you not have a grasp on the meaning of the word “force.” Kids aren’t “forced” to eat school food. They can take their own lunch. You can send your kid to school with a pound of lard and a dozen donuts EVERY SINGLE DAY if you want. You just put the junk food in one of the brown paper lunch bags and pat yourself on the back for being a proud American.
The bill says that the schools will provide healthier foods and less junk food (and free water). What I hear you saying is that you want the government to provide junk food so that you, the parent, don’t have to take responsibility for your kids diet.
Two things: you can still send your kid to school with any kind of crap you want them to eat. Send them with 10 candy bars and two cokes. Your choice, not the governments. And second, please get your dictionary out and look up the word “force.”

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 4:18pmGovernor Palin has been encouraging healthy eating long before Mrs Obama took it upon herself to involve the government in telling parents how to raise their kids. During her state of the state address in 2009 Governor Palin said this:

Both Governor Palin and Michelle Obama believe in the cause of fighting obesity.
Governor Palin believes in educating parents and children on how to take care of themselves, but ultimately leave that up to the parents, while Mrs Obama believes government needs to do it for them.

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 4:23pmChristie‘s been exposed and anyone with half a brain can figure out he’s a RINO
The same tough talk Chistie uses on budget matters will be the same tough talk he uses against conservatives on issues like gun control, illegal immigration or even ObamaCare. He is not the He is
He is not the conservative so many people think he is.

Sorry, but that ship has sailed.

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 5:32pmYou dance with the one who brung ya.
If state and local school systems had the courage to refuse Federal money, then they could feed kids carrot sticks and tofu, or double cheeseburgers with bacon and curly fries, every damn day, and Michelle obama wouldn’t have a damn thing to say about it.
Except what she’s saying now, that it’s not a good idea to eat cheeseburgers with bacon and curly fries every day.

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 5:53pmTry again cnsrvtvj, that is a state law in the very conservative State of Texas. What does that have to do with Michelle Obama and the The Healthy, Hunger-free Kids Act of 2010? And I think you failed to read your own link, which says that:
According to the Texas Department of Agriculture’s website, “The Texas Public School Nutrition Policy (TPSNP) explicitly states that it does not restrict what foods or beverages parents may provide for their own children’s consumption.”

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 7:05pmSorry Gov. Christie with what the Obama‘s are doing to our country and representing everyone’s but the U.S.A.’s interest abroad, I do not think you will find too many people interested in anything praising the Obama’s right now.
I am sure there are many things that Hitler could have been praised for during his reign also, like the Volkswagen, Autobahn and his initiatives with liquefying coal to make gasoline, but if you were a Jew in Germany during his reign I do not think that would be appreciated.
With all hell breaking out everywhere can’t you find something else of greater importance to make statements on?

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 8:43pmSNOWLEOPARD {advertisement} you‘re the leader of this thread so I’m calling you out and challenging you. Please provide a source for your claim that there is a Federal law that prohibits Americans from sending their kids to school with whatever they want them to eat. If you can’t then being a man or woman of God, and a humble servant of Christ, you‘ll admit you’re wrong and stop posting this inflammatory nonsense on the internet.
As they say in the South, put up or shut up.

but the fact she is a democrat – and black – “colors” your vitriol.
