The Facebook page in question has been seized by the Hood County Sheriff's Department. (Image: CBS Local screenshot)
Two middle-school age girls from Hood County in Texas have been arrested and charged with a third-degree felony for online impersonation. The local sheriff’s department has said this crime was bullying and similar to identity theft, according to CBS Local out of Dallas-Fort Worth.

CBS Local reports the two girls had been using the fictitious Facebook page to act as if it were maintained by another 12-year-old. With the site, the two bullied other students and hurt the reputation of the one they were impersonating.

The mother of this unnamed student is reported as saying when she saw the profile — something she hasn’t allowed her daughter to create in the first place — it revealed “a whole bunch of vulgar things” and some threats to fellow classmates.
Here’s what the authorities had to say about the situation to CBS:
Sheriff Roger Deeds said the page had 63 people following the status updates and often commenting on them. His investigators did not know at first that a 12-year-old and 13-year-old girl were allegedly responsible.
They did not back off when they discovered that. He called it bullying and similar to identity theft.
“Instead of using it for financial gain, they’re using it to hurt people,” the Sheriff said.
Watch the report:
The girls who were arrested for making and operating the page were taken to a juvenile detention center.
The upset mother of the victim told CBS that her daughter “doesn’t know who to trust anymore” after this incident.

Isnt this whole Bully Dynamic that is evident in any realm of the Animal kingdom what creates stronger and more dominate specimens that adapt and overcome? Dont get me wrong, Bullying a cripple or handicapped individual is plain wrong and shows weakness on behalf of the perp; but coveting and fostering a generation of ******* that are willing to take their own life because they have acne or are just a bit odd is not what this country needs. we need to harvest a generation of citizens that adapt and overcome challenges. What ever happened to the kid that had enough and grew a pair and changed the game on a Bully? It seemed to work out pretty good for Marty McFly and that Lil $hit Ralphy, havent we taken anything from that. We should be teaching people to be decent human beings, as well as Muffuggers that shouldnt Effed with. Huh, kinda sounds like what my 83 yr old granddad taught us… We dont need to teach this generation to run from tough situations to the comforting arms of a “grown up”, fight for your dignity and respect it wont be given. Can you see the correllation of this behavior and the rise in Govt Handouts, protection, lawsuits, socialism, and welfare? Lets get America back to kicking some ass, not little soccer balls…

I think we are already there. A mean look can and IS construed as a “terroristic threat” or a “hate crime” in some places. Don’t believe me? Go and growl at the wrong ethnic group and see where it lands you. You don’t even have to SAY A WORD! Just growl! (Not Kidding, I‘ll leave it there cause I Don’t Know But I Been Told….)
EVERYTHING is a “felony” now. Once the fedgov can get you on a “felony” any felony, they gotcher guns, gotcher nuts in the palm of their hand and they own you. That’s why so many stupid things, like these two stupid girls did, are now classified as a “felony.” I mean really, a swift kick in the butt and grounded for a month is what this is worth. Nothing more.
Second point, Agreed! I think the time has come that this society gets an overhaul.

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 3:51pmSorry, but I‘m going to disagree with needing to be ’lenient’ on these kids. It’s time to take the kids BACK, and for parents and ‘the village’ to raise the child. Whether we like it or not, kids have been almost forced to grow up faster as a result of every cultural and media outlet they are exposed to outside the parental or familial setting. To either NOT punish them, or to minimize their punishment, or to have more ‘special laws’ when ACTING like adults, is to never teach them HOW to be mature, compassionate adults in the first place. This falls under the same lines as the boys who bullied the bus monitor. They are malicious in intent… They KNOW what they are doing, even at that young age. And if facebook weren’t even involved, they WOULD be bullying in some other form. They KNOW what they are doing. It’s time to stop feeling sorry for them and to start teaching them that their actions will have SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES… We DO need to start showing examples. If they didn’t care about another human life, why should anybody care about theirs. And if my kids are ever involved in something like that, despite my teachings and parenting, they are on their own….. period. But trust me… it doesn’t happen in my house. And hell will freeze over before it does.

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 4:04pmI agree in arresting them 100% but I think a Felony might be a bit over the line. That ruins their lives even more than the damage that they caused. A misdemeanor with some detention time and community service should be the first offense’s penalty. If they do it again? Oh yeah, all for the felony. They had their chance at that point.

Back when I was in the USN in the peoples republic of CA I was tad working as base shore patrol. I got pulled over, had my gear with nightstick in the trunk and got arrested for felony possesion of a dangerous weapon. After 3 days in the felony tank over the weekend it got dropped to a misdemeanor.
The point is, apart from california being nuts, is that in some cases of id theft felony would be appropriate. The charge can always be lowered to misdemeanor. Maybe it will scare the pants off these moron’s.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 10:22amAre you ******** me? These girls are being very malicious by impersonating her and turning her friends and fellow classmates against her. Mental harm is way more severe than physical harm. Something like these will turn into physical harm later down the road. For them to receive a felony charge is right. Call me cold but these girls are old enough to know what hurts someone and what doesn’t. There’s way too many anti-bullying programs out there, too many shows that air on TV regarding bully topics, and plenty of people around to tell you what’s right or wrong. These girls are very calculating; pretending to be the victim, posting such threats continuously to the students of the same school, waiting for 1 person to snap and do the dirty job for the 2 mastermind. If this wasn’t caught now, I can only predict that one of the students of the school will snap, confront the victim, physically harm her with a large group supporting the aggressor, and the 2 mastermind will be laughing in the back. I also hope the parents slap themselves in the face for even raising this kind of child in the household. When I have kids, I’ll make sure this kind of mentality will not exist. Hell will break loose before they can even act on this kind of behavior.

And those who are checking Facebook for verification have no way of knowing that the individual never had a Facebook page because one is there. As a matter of fact, it could end up with the victim not being admitted to college or losing a scholarship or something else like that. So, it’s not irrelevant.

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 3:49pmA juvenile felony will not ruin your entire life. Juvenile records can be sealed when you turn 18 if you request it and pay a small fee and you haven’t been in trouble for a significant amount of time (and a few other rules too). So for instance in CA it’s 5 years. These girls could get their records sealed if they do nothing else criminal.

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 3:17pmWhat these little girls was wrong, pure and simple. They should be PUNISHED. However, and its a HUMONGOUS however, they, in no way deserve to be arrested, jailed and charged with identity theft. They are little girls, ages 12 and 13. Their parents need to mete out some harsh punishments, most likely including community service, being grounded from EVERYTHING and more. If it were My child they would have to apologize to the girl they did this against and to her parents and would also have to get in front of their classmates and acknowledge their transgressions.
There is a MYRIAD of things that can get these girls attention WITHOUT going to JAIL. I remember when I was 12 and I wasn’t the PERFECT kid and I made mistakes that I had to own up to….and at times that hurt more then anything. I learned my lessons and most children to this day learn their lessons. All it takes is creative and appropriate punishments from their parents. Just because these girls did this does not mean their parents are lacking….kids do alot of things their parents would be MORTIFIED of if they knew it. Do NOT ruin their lives because of their IMMATURE actions…and we were ALL immature at some point in our lives. God bless all and I pray the parents of these two girls are able to work out APPROPRIATE punishments for their children and pray that they have learned their lesson. “Every knee will bow and every tongue confess” God bless all.

These two girls are no better than any juvenile delinquent who goes to juvi-jail. The bail was probably set right away; if the parents can afford or want to they can bail their little girls outta jail. I suspect a jail sentence will not happen. My son when he turned 18 took a joy ride in a car someone else stole and did not end up with a jail sentence, but he ended up with a felony and it was a bad thing that caused him to have an awful time finding work. At least these girls are juveniles and the records will be sealed if they stay out of trouble.

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 3:06pmWhile I agree with you about the overreaction to bullying in general, think about how much farther this is being taken. When we grew up and dealt with bullies, there was rarely more than a handful of people that saw the humiliation forced on us by the bullies. Now, with the Internet you can pretend to be someone else and get them framed for crimes without exposing yourself to social reaction. Without the voice of conscience that speaks loudest when we think of what other people will think of us, we find all kinds of ways to justify our actions.
And think, too, of the longevity of these actions. Nothing ever really disappears from the Internet thanks to forces like Google, who store information for years past its removal. I think that a felony charge is too severe, but I do think these girls should be punished severely for what they did.
Just my thoughts.

Posted on July 19, 2012 at 2:30pmDude, ALL republicans are not RINO’s. ALL republicans are not corrupt. There are good republicans too. Romney is not my first choice, but he will do.
Just because someone is not a pure, white, perfect saint, does not mean that they are satan incarnate.
Translation. Just because Romney has got a little progressive in him does not mean that he will be as bad as the dyed in the wool communist that we currently have in the office.
Its like having a guy who likes to steal donuts from safeway as your security guard instead of a convicted murderer. Yes, both are criminals, but the difference is in degree, and that degree is IMPORTANT

He is not a little progressive. He is a lot of progressive. Look I understand Obama is terrible. I just refuse to vote for a guy that will carry on the same liberal progressive policies as Obama.
@monk
Tell me some nation changing issues Romney is different from Obama on. I believe a vote for Romney is a vote for Obama’s policies. If Romney or anyone can come out and prove me wrong I will vote for Romney. What I dont care about is non issues like gay marriage, bullying, who ate a dog, and who has been in a weird church.
