UPDATE: MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Vikings-Giants game has been postponed until Monday night because of snowstorm.
MINNEAPOLIS (The Blaze/AP) — The New York Giants are having trouble getting to Minnesota for their game against the Vikings.
With about a foot of blowing snow falling in the Twin Cities area and closing the airport Saturday afternoon, the Giants’ charter flight was forced to land in Kansas City. Team spokesman Pat Hanlon said on Twitter the team will spend the night there:
He also tweeted pictures of the team stranded in Kansas City:
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Sunday’s game was still scheduled to start at 1 p.m. EST, with the Giants planning to fly to Minnesota on Sunday morning. According to Hanlon’s Twitter account, the team was using the Kansas City Chiefs’ departure space in the airport to stage a walkthrough while stranded.
According to NFL.com, “weather forecasts called for steady snow in Minneapolis until the evening, then clearing skies. Sunday’s forecast: Sunny but extremely cold, with wind chill approaching negative-25 degrees.” The Vikings, however, play indoors at the Metrodome.
WCCO in Minnesota details the massive delays at the Minneapolis-St.Paul international airport, where only one runway was open, nearly every flight was canceled, and plows earlier in the day were ordered off the streets:
Despite the travel woes, however, Hanlon guaranteed the team would be ready to play:
Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is aiming to make his NFL-record 298th straight start, with a sprained shoulder that has made throwing difficult. He’s listed as questionable to play the Giants.

Posted on December 11, 2010 at 9:44pmWith all due respect……I do. I have a 43 inch snow drift in my driveway. Confirmed by a tape measure. I would like to watch the game after I spend tomorrow morning scooping out. Snow in the winter, mosquitoes in the summer, and loony Liberals all year around….what’s not to love about MN.
