President Pence? Congressman Considers Strategic Move for Possible 2012 Race

Indiana Republican Congressman Mike Pence is reportedly considering stepping down from leadership post as House Republican Chairman, a step that suggests the GOP Rep is preparing for a possible bid for president of governor in 2012. Politico reports:

Pence, a darling of the conservative movement, would leave the leadership job with a blunt explanation to colleagues that he can’t commit to a two-year term in House leadership, a source familiar with his deliberations told POLITICO Tuesday.

Pence believes it would be inappropriate to stay at the GOP conference post — the No. 3 spot in the House Republican hierarchy — unless he could stay through 2012, the source said. Pence also believes that he can be a more effective conservative voice if he is free of the responsibilities that he would have in leadership of a House Republican majority. …

Pence spokesman Matt Lloyd said the Indiana congressman’s “sole focus remains on winning back the majority in Congress and believes that speculating about who will occupy what leadership position in the next Congress is ‘looking past the playoffs’ and out of place.”

Like many Republican front-runners in the 2012 election, Pence has stayed mum on the possibility of a run.  He recently was the winner of a presidential straw poll at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, DC, which puts him in contention with names like Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich.

On Wednesday he begins the 2010 Mike Pence Road Team Bus Tour, a three-day ramble around the Hoosier state that will have him making 15 stops for more than a dozen statehouse candidates and four congressional hopefuls — Marlin Stutzman, Todd Young, Larry Buschon and Jackie Walorski. Contrast that with House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who is in Memphis; Tupelo, Miss.; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Northern Virginia, and several stops in the New York City area between now and Friday.

Might first thought as well – two amazing, honest, moral, intelligent and honorable men who love their country unlike others we know. Two men we could be very proud to say there is our President and Vice President!!!!

Until I hear a canidate speaking of speaking abot the Monitary Reform Act and put the central bank, “The Federal Reserve”, back in the hands of the people and out of the hands of Private and FORIEGN bankers printing our Money…. WE would solve the debt problem, stabalize the economy, and put and end to the likes of folks like Soros… Not to mention, taxes would naturally go down…

Since I am from Indiana and a very distant relative to Pence, I would love to see him as a Presidential candidate. However, I believe that he will look to run for Gov of Indiana and take over for Mitch Daniels. Lets face it, the best Presidents are usually former Governors. I would not mind him as the VP, and I could see a ticket like Huckabee and Pence that could be successful. Right now I feel that Pence is best suited for a VP role or to continue the success Mitch has brought to the state of IN. Personally, I think the ticket for 2012 will be Mitch Daniels and Michelle Bachman. You have a governor and fiscal conservative on top of the ticket and a true conservative in Michelle solidifying the base and tea party movement thus creating the first female VP.

Pence is going to be in my small town on Friday stumping with Young. I sure hope Todd Young uses Mike Pence as a mentor. That would be one heck of change from Barron Hill.

I like Mike Pence. But, I am very impressed with Senator John Thune. He also has an excellent Conservative record , which can be checked . He been around since the ninties. As a younger man he worked for Ronald Reagan. Thune has a facebook site . And also posts articles on “Republican Senators Facebook”. Last Saturday he gave the Republican response to the Dictator’s saturday message speech. It is on youtube. He thinks like a President, He talks and acts like a President. He has a plan for reducing the deficit . He has said he is seriously considering a run against Obama in 2012. when he won his Senate seat he took out the then majority leader, Democrat Tom Daschele.

Sounds like he would be a great candidate. Not to be derogatory, but he might have to get some Grecian Formula so people won’t label him as “old guard” like they did McCain. On second thought, maybe he should just be himself, that’s what we need. We already have a President that was elected on the basis of his charm, appearance, and empty slogans.

I like him, hope he shows a backbone next year too.
I have a suggestion for the GOP.
How about reversing Lyndon Johnson and taking the social security out of the general fund. I know it is already going into deficit but when the economy comes back I think it will go back into the black. What could be better than securing the future proceeds but they could also start paying back the IOU’s.
Would love some feedback on this plan.

I might trust him if he denounced his vote for the patriot act (01‘ and 06’). Still probably the most unconstitutional legislation produced by our gov.

Aside from that he appears o.k., I’m still researching his record.

Are you free or are you not? After fighting the communists from Berlin to Vietnam, Korea to Afghanistan, and all around the world spending our blood our youth and our treasure for another people, how is it we have allowed Communism in the ranks of the Democrats. Are the Democrats so desperate for power they would associate with traitors, indeed welcome them with open arms? Forming organizations with tax payer money with the sole purpose of overthrowing the constitution forcing us to pay for our own destruction? We have got to get rid of this lose money! It’s time to turn our government back into the institution it was meant to be, not some weird kind of ATM machine. If you are a communist you are by definition ineligible to take any oath of office because no communist can say the oath with a straight face knowing that ultimately because of your beliefs, you wish the destruction of the constitution and our American way of life

Russia, China, Korea, Vietnam, How many DEAD at their own hands of their own kind? Where ever you find Communism/Democrats a stack of body’s is not far off! Are we next?

I used to listen to Mike on the radio back in the ’90s and loved most everything he had to say. I watched a video of him addressing some conference ( I think a gop conf.) and it sounds like he stayed true to his roots ( amazing since he’s been in Washington foor a few years.) He was a true conservative when I listened to him back when, If he really stayed true to his roots, then I will be the first one in line to vote for him.
