Mikhail Gorbachev: I‘m ’Ashamed’ of Vladimir Putin

Former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev said he’s “ashamed” of Vladimir Putin, following the Russian prime minister’s 4 1/2-hour televised rant last week.

Gorbachev made his comments to a Russian opposition paper, slamming Putin for his response to the ongoing massive demonstrations the country has seen. Putin — who is expected to win back the Russian presidency next year — had mocked the protesters calling for an end to his rule, sarcastically saying he thought they were an anti-AIDS campaign looked like they had pinned condoms to their chests. Putin also called Arizona Sen. John McCain “nuts” during the same appearance.

“This is shameful. And embarrassing. I, for example, am ashamed,” Gorbachev said of Putin, according to the Telegraph.

“I feel tied to Putin in the sense that at first, when he came to power, I actively supported him everywhere, both here and abroad. And now look,” he added.

Gorbachev, 80, also had harsh words for outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, saying he thought Medvedev wrecked his credibility by not having a stronger response to election fraud allegations.

“He said he had no complaints or doubts about the elections. And with that, Dmitry Anatolyevich I think pulled the curtain down on his career,” Gorbachev said.

Gorbachev has become increasingly vocal in criticizing the Kremlin, though the personal attack against Putin represents his strongest criticism yet, the Telegraph reported.

You’re right about Obama selling out the Poles and for what? What exactly did we get in return? Help with Iran? A “restart” in relations with Russia? Hell no, we got squat. That‘s why Putin wants back in so bad and he’s praying Obama gets re elected, Putin knows he can manhandle Obama.

Americans were “conned” once before by the promise of the Soviet/Communist fairy tale in the early 1930′s. They were lied to and chewed up and destroyed by the system they thought was going to be their savior. If America doesn’t wake up soon, they could do it again. Just finished reading the book “The Forsaken: An American Tragedy in Stalin’s Russia.” It was eye-opening to how easily people are pulled into fantasies and fairy tales and then are eaten by the monster. It breaks my heart.

The whole time our boys were kissing butt the Ruskies were helping Iran build their bomb and helping the rest of the ********** world go after Israel. Nice job boys

      “They” – who? Russians? Americans?
In both countries, crazy delusional, but very aggressive people who believe in fairness of Communism ideology (like our domestic idiots Francis Fox Piven, Anita Dunn, Van Jones, Bill Ayers, professional racist Jeremiah Wright, Bernie Sanders and many, way too many others) are very powerful because of spoiled media and enormous support, on the one hand, by disgusting financial wheeler-dealers, like Soros and many other financial moguls (mostly hidden or even open worshipers of Trotsky, Kamenev, Sverdlov, Zinoviev and the likes), and on the other hand, by uneducated envious brainwashed masses (mostly followers of the “everybody owes us” ideology.)
As long as our education system is not changed [forcibly], our country, as well as Russia, will keep decaying. And for us nothing remains except to pour bitter tears.

My mother is from the old soviet block. Does anyone remember that plane crash last year where the Polish President was killed along with 1/2 of the government? They wouldn‘t land in Russian territory because they still don’t trust the Russians, so they crashed instead. There is a long history and a deep mistrust of the Russians still to this day, and Obama handed the Poles and the Ukraines over to Putin on a silver platter when he backed down on the Missle shield. Putin is the ДЬЯВОЛ (Devil) as far as most are concerned.

      To Axelphantom,

The Polish plane that crashed in Smolensk Russia of 2010 with the Polish president was because the Russian airtower gave incorrect information to the Polish pilot and his crew.

The Russian goverment repeated over and over to the world (as in the Big Lie technique) that the crash was due to “Pilot error” putting all the blame on the Polish pilot. It turns out the Russians were not being honest with all the facts that surrounded that crash.

Historically Polish pilots have been some of the best in the world as they were in Squadron 303 in the Battle of Britain of WWII and as the Polish pilot was when he miraculously landed his crippled plane this past November in Warsaw.

There is no comparison between the help the Polish pilot got from the Warsaw airtower in November vs the “help” the doomed Polish pilot got from the Russian airtower in Smolensk Russia April 2010

As a person who lived 50 years under Commies (including Gorbachev), I am wondering: what so unusual or unexpected did Gorbachev find in Putin now (after he supported him)?
As a KGB officer, in 1975 Putin has taken the oath to faithfully and loyally serve the Lenin-Stalin’s cause, the cause of Communism – establishing of Communism all over the world.
What that cause is is well known (at least, I perfectly know, unlike too many Americans). And Putin keeps his word. So, nothing changed.
It is always dummy masses of us the People who believe in myths that we create by ourselves for ourselves.
Like the myth of “Hope and Change” and “Fundamental transformation of the United States of America in 4 years” that the obama honestly proclaimed, but we didn‘t pay attention and didn’t analyze what it means.
The same with Putin and Gorbachev’s support of that KGB officer with his Oath.
Remember how Bush (whom I voted twice for) found “a good soul” in eyes of Putin?
How naive, how American it was! And Russians are the same. Except for some (like myself, for instance. -:))

I think this is the last efforts of an aging man to stand up for something right and atone for his past. He might be gambling on the safety of his celebrity, but that didn’t help a great many people. The Soviet power structure arrogantly killed them anyway.

Former Communist leader Mikhail Gorbachev told an audience at Lafayette College that the United States’ economic problems heralded the need for a new American “perestroika,” defined by a “new world order” and a system of “global governance”.

“Others, including myself, have spoken about a new world order, but we are still facing the problem of building such a world order…problems of the environment, of backwardness and poverty, food shortages…all because we do not have a system of global governance,” he said.

“We cannot leave things as they were before, when we are seeing that these protests are moving to even new countries, that almost all countries are now witnessing such protests, that the people want change,” he said. “As we are addressing these challenges, these problems raised by these protest movements, we will gradually find our way towards a new world order,” added Gorbachev.
