Military Jets Fly Low Over Cairo in ‘Show of Strength’

Military Jets Fly Low Over Cairo in Show of Strength
BBC:

The Egyptian military has staged an apparent show of strength in the capital Cairo during a sixth day of anti-government protests.

Two air force jets and a helicopter are repeatedly flying low over Tahrir (Liberation) Square, the main gathering point for demonstrators.

A column of tanks arrived there only to have its path blocked by demonstrators.

From the YouTube post: An Al Jazeera online producer in Cairo captures video of the jets flying overhead on the afternoon of January 30, 2011, as citizens patrol their neighborhood.

A government duly elected by the people should never defend itself against the people. If the people want them out, they should leave.
We have a similar problem in the United States. I have heard congressmen make the statement that they are “in charge of their constituents”. This is not true. They are suposed to “represent” their constituents. Egypt SHUT DOWN internet and cell phone service to protect the government. This should NEVER happen and it should never happen in the United States of America as long as we have a legitimate government of and by the PEOPLE.
The founding fathers saw this situation and they put safeguards into the constitution to make those who govern subject to the “will” of the people.

OK. it’s time to put an end to this before thousands more die. here is the guaranteed solution that will break up the crowds and stave off this conflict until it can be resolved peacefully. I propose we fly over with a few cargo planes and drop some plastic vuvuzealas and some air horns. Hell toss in some foam fingers just for the hell of it. The constant buzz would not only drive the media away the people in the crowd would quickly become so annoyed by purple lipped zealots that they would go home. Those that stay to blow the horns would realize that the click they had joined for attention had deserted them and they too would break up and leave. A real Ed bernaise solution isn’t it. i’m sure it would work. hell it destroyed soccer why not a revolution?

Where are Mubarak’s supporters? If this sort of thing happened in front of the White House, there would be two opposing crowds… pro vs con – right vs left – dem vs republican – Progressives vs Conservatives – Steelers vs Packers etc. I just think it’s interesting that the people in the street in Egypt all seem to be on the same side – the people vs Mubarak? That wouldn’t happen here.

Not by accident, America is a fairly evenly divided society. We’ve been programmed that way. It‘s not about what’s right or wrong, or what’s best for our country anymore, as it was a couple generations ago. Now a person chooses which side he is on based upon the parenting that he had (or lack thereof), the indoctrination he had in school (and fell for), and the amount of liberal media propaganda he exposed himself to in the name of recreation. In a nutshell, this has been the Progressive’s agenda for 100 years and will not turn around quickly. A confrontation in our country the size of what is happening in Egypt will be 1,000 times more violent and bloody because the purpose of dividing our society has always been to bring it down. …rf

This reminds me of the movie Princess Bride. Haven’t seen it?

You see, in this movie there is an evil Prince Humperdink who wants to start a war so that he can become, presumeably, a more powerful dictator. So he proposes to a ‘commoner’ – Buttercup – and plots to kill her, and of all times on their wedding night, with the intent to blame it on a neighboring country as an excuse to start a war. Little did he know, Buttercup had one true love named Wesley who would came and save her.

Fast forward toward the end of the movie and Prince Humperdink and Princess Buttercup are at the alter ready to be wed. Just as the ceremony commences, there is commotion outside. Humperdink realizes it must be Buttercup’s true love coming to save her, so he orders the priest to skip to the end of the ceromony, “declaring” them both man and wife.

Princess Buttercup confused by all the chaos assumes she is married to evil Humperdink and prepares to kill herself because she does not love him and figures death is better then living as the slave wife of Humperdink. Just as she is about to stab herself through the heart, her true love Wesley stops her. He informed her that in fact she wasn‘t married and there was no need to destroy her ’perfect breasts’ (metaphor for the constitution maybe). The problem? Buttercup never said “I do”.

You see, our representatives are a bunch of Humperdinks. Looking for an excuse to start a war and create a dictator. The problem is we have a constitution that *requires* consent of the Governed and we never said ‘I do’. They have long ago took a dump on the constitution as we all know. The funny thing is, through all the chaos they have convinced us that we are subject to their shananigans – that we must accept Obama, or perhaps some other Hunmperdink, as dictator. That we‘re ’married’ to the Fed. But the truth of the matter is, this is only in our heads – the mental prison we create for ourselves (with their help, of course).

The truth is that they have already repeatedly violated our God given constitutional rights and mock everything this country stands for. But before we give in and ‘kill ourselves’ we need someone to stop and wake us up. They do not have the consent of the Governed, therefore they can ‘pass’ any law they want – they won‘t be worth the paper it’s printed on. The sooner America wakes up and takes their Government back, by simply refusing to acknowledge the traitors in office, and reorganizing on their own as described and allowed by the consitution, the sooner we can get back to being free. No guns, no war, no fighting, no angry town hall meetings… Just peace. Simply ‘step outside’ the current system, get together as communities, and start all over with limited Government. Government for the people by the people. Pretend the Humperdinks don’t even exist.

Of course, like Humperdink in the movie, these Humperdinks aren’t going to go without a fight, and they’re going to use as many confused souls as they can to do their dirty work. But when the People, the Wesleys, rise up and call their bluff we will see they are not nearly as powerful as they wanted us to believe. You see, any humperdink could have been born rich and secretly plot with their buddies to take over the world. But it takes real courage to stand up and tell the truth and truly defend the defenseless and to work to genuinely make the world, and the lives on it, a better place. Then we can all ride off into the sunset and start over again. But first we must choose to believe the truth instead of the lie… then peace and love can prevail again.

But who am I kidding? You’re all waiting for WW3 …. So in this story, humperdink wins.

If we have to drive home the point that they were “democratic” when describing them, shouldn’t we be asking ourselves WHY we feel the need to defend that one adjective? Mubarak is a dictator, and we should not be supporting his nonsense and denying he is a dictator. (BIDEN)

Obama rode the wave of the civil rights movement of the 60s and a mix of crony politics to get where he is today. I believe he really believes in his heart that the way forward is one of total equality and social justice for all. If he keeps to his beliefs many will continue to exploit this mindset for their own goals. This is the problem. One man lives in a world that only exists in his mind and is trying to force this idealism upon us all. We already know how to Love our neighbors and help the poor we just oppose the governments involvement in trying to impose charity through stealing our earned income through taxation and giving it away to people who line up at the trough like pigs. We know this leads to ruin of a people and it must be stopped, he believes it must continue and continue it will until we are in the streets asking for his resignation. Peaceably of course.

I think maybe the jets and most of the tanks are to reinforce the message that the military is there and in force. Likely they are not going to engage crowds except where government buildings and assets are involved. Mubarack might announce that the military will act to keep order and protect citizens and announce early elections. He may see the handwriting on the wall and just want to keep whatever peace is possible, deny opportunists the opening to seize power and to allow for an orderly transition. He may to try to string everything out to the last minute to keep any option for maintaining the status quo for as long as possible.

I have been saying all along that there will be no free election in 2012 in the United States. That is why the administration as so brazenly defied the will of the people. All joking aside you need to stock up on the essentials including water, food, weapons and ammo as we will be patrolling our neighborhoods much as the Egyptians are. Like JWG, I also have expressed from the beginning that this president will not allowed to be seen as a failure and will be propped up no matter what. He is his generations Moses, MLK and JFK all wrapped into one. He will be the first official President of the world when its all said and done. Our little elections through the Tea Party movement matter not to much to him and his cronnies. He will get around it if it means a Third World War. He may have no choice, things are moving in that direction and he will take advantage of the situation. Whatever that looks like, it will not make China or Russia happy especially when they see America on the ropes as we have been, but we may viewed at as having a resurgence that will cause them to act in unision. Like pushing the Korean pennisula into an all out War. Whatever the form is it will be in the offing this year and straddle into next. The Persian Gulf and the Suez cannot be placed into the hands of madmen but it looks as if it will go that way and cause prices to escalate worldwide and steps will have to be taken to alleviate that through War or our streets and many others will look like Cairo. Many will be seizing upon these events to further their goals. I have long said that Obama is not going anywhere and a year prior to him being elected said it would be so. Many laughed but I was right. Laugh again but it is going to happen. We have been painted into a corner in this country. If anyone believes otherwise, then your still not fully awake or you are holding onto the vestages of America that only exist in your mind. I am at the acceptance stage and now active trying to get others to see this is not their fathers and grandfathers America any longer. We can get ready like JWG speaks about or wait by the road for hand outs. Your pick!

As I posted on the previous thread: It takes a little time for an army to put together a response to the type of domestic situation so extraordinary that military intervention is required.

I have a hunch that the real response is coming soon. These guys have been training with the US since the early ‘80s and it is probably well understood that the country is too strategically important to allow an undirected and potentially catastrophic change of government. Civilian collateral runs a far second in importance. Those happen to be M1 Abrams tanks in Cairo – it’s not the same Egyptian Army that Sadat ran.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_Army

This appears to be a secular economic issue rather than a supposed religious one. The real danger is that Muslim interests turn this in to religious battle, They have not yet.. Economic zeal can be reconciled much easier that religious fervor.

The jets are part of the pre-game show. The army first responders that got out of their vehicles were probably week-end warriors that were called in just to have a presence. The first string is probably getting in position.

Umm… @ NeverEnding: Yes, of course the military is acting stupidly.

Are you suggesting that it is ever a good idea for a military controlled by a dictator to fly jets over an potentially kill unarmed civilian protesters who are unhappy with their government?

So, if this chaos spreads to the USA as Mr. Beck predicts — you‘re suggesting that you’re OK with the USA government flying over protestors and dropping bombs or using some other show of force to stop legitimate demonstrations? Or maybe you prefer their new microwave weapons, they can take out a crowd of thousands at a time as they cook them alive.

Genuine diplomacy IS the answer. The problem I see is that we have too many wolves in sheeps clothing claiming they are acting in our interest while slowly dismantling free governments around the globe, including our own.

I am not claiming to have a full understanding of everything happening in Egypt, but If the people are genuinely unahppy with their government, should they not have the right to change it?

Why would anyone, except a troll, ever suggest that bombing civilian protesters is or could be a good idea? Thank you THE BLAZE also for censoring my comments. This is the second time to post a similar reply.

OK, I just talked to a Christian Egyptian friend/co-worker, who has been in contact with his family in Egypt. They believe it was a contrived crisis, created by certain elements within the government, so that the ‘government’ would then have the opportunity to come in and restore order (See! You need the government to protect you!). BTW, the Egyptian people don’t like or trust the police (corruption) and local government (corruption), BUT they LOVE the military soldiers (army). The western press is likening this to the Tianamen Square confrontation with tanks and jet fighter planes overhead, but many Egyptians are more thankful for the army showing up, and wondered what took them so long. Yes the citizens did have to band together in groups for protection for a while, but that has now largely passed. Calm is being restored.
It is interesting that since the government shutdown of Twitter, Facebook, and the internet, no more gigantic groups of protesters are being seen. The people instigating trouble cannot communicate with their followers?

And it is interesting that our congress is now considering an internet “shut-off” switch for this country (to keep the same thing from happening here??)
