Million Dollar Question to Obama: ‘Do You Take Any Personal Responsibility For Your Administration Creating’ Current Economic Conditions?

Imagine that you had the chance to sit down with the President of the United States and you could ask him any question. What would you ask?
Many of us would probably try to figure whether he thought his economic initiatives were ill-conceived and whether they should be altered or discontinued.
What do you think he would say?
Well, you don’t have to imagine any longer because ABC affiliate WVEC’s David Alan asked for you.
“How have we become a country where so many members of the middle class go to bed at night wondering if they going to be able to keep their homes and put food on the table and send their kids to college?” Alan asked the president. “Do you take any personal responsibility for your administration creating that condition?”
“We didn’t create the condition. We haven’t solved it fully yet because it was three decades in the making,” President Obama replied.
Watch the president’s response (via WVEC):
“I mean, if you look at the trend lines, essentially what’s happened is that because of automation, because of globalization, you had a lot of manufacturing move out of the United States. Businesses got more efficient, they needed fewer workers, they had more leverage over workers, and all this added up to a tougher time for middle class families,” the president explained.
So, if one is to understand the president correctly, the current economic crisis facing middle-class America was created by Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush? And it has been exacerbated by “automation”?
While one could argue that Alan’s question was loaded, and that it was specifically designed to prompt an admission of failure from the president, it is very difficult to view President Obama’s response as anything but “passing the buck.”
The president continued, explaining his plans to “grow the middle-class” and then arguing in favor of his economic policies.
“The good news is that we still have the best universities in the world, the most innovative businesses in the world the best workers in the world, [and] the freest market system in the world,” the president said.
First, didn’t the president just blame automated innovation for shrinking the middle-class? Second, Boeing might disagree with his assessment that the U.S. has the “freest market system in the world.”
“We’ve seen our exports go up, we’ve now seen 21 months of job growth (in the private sector), so we’ve got all the tools to refocus and make sure that we’re growing our middle class again,” the president said. “But we’re going to have to do some smart things to do it: improve our education system, invest in infrastructure, invest in basic science and technology, and make sure the rules of the road are fair and that everybody is doing their fair share.”
Again, there seem to be some serious discrepancies in the president’s claims. First, “21 month of job growth”? In what sector?
“The fact is, new jobs are being added at a far lower rate than a decade ago, as the chart below shows. And it’s that tepid job growth that explains America’s unacceptably high unemployment rate,” writes Mike Brownfield of The Heritage Foundation.
Indeed, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics would show that the president’s “21 months of job growth” hasn’t worked out too well for many Americans:
Secondly, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) must be thrilled to hear the president’s pledge to reinvest U.S. resources in science and technology. Recently, they’ve been a little, what’s the word, “underutilized”?
And then there’s the president’s oft-repeated call for the wealthy to pay their “fair share.” Even though “fair share” has been questioned, dissected, and disputed (almost to the point of nausea), no one from the Obama administration has offered to define what that actually looks like. Perhaps they will continue to repeat it until no one questions it any more.

How much blame has Bush accepted given that the collapse happened 7 years into his presidency? None of course. How long did it take to recover from the Great Depression, ten years or so? At least, thanks partly to Bush, we still have an automobile industry, and all the people employeed in that industry, and all the people who supply the metals, plastics, glass, vinyl, engines, tires, fabric, carpet, gears, drive shafts, electronics. That’s a lot of jobs.
Of course, the Tea Party would have been happy to plunge the world into another depression. Sorry, didn’t happen. But of course now, you‘re saying why isn’t the economy back to normal?

So some have a choice stay here ride it for as long as possible and close their doors, or do what they must to survive and go overseas. What do you expect companies to do when China is using slave labor making their cost on a widget a fraction of what it would cost to be made in the US.
Maybe if companies here didnt have all those regs taxes and unions up their waazoo they could stay competitive. Reagan inherited a mess I never heard him complain and this country turned itself around and flourished for period of time. It was a ‘set up’ question that Obama gave him to ask. The key word “middle class”. The appearance of a tough question, that Obama easily batted away, by the tried and true tactic….intentionally address a ‘tough question’ in a controlled setting with a re-hearsed answer.
Place the blame elsewhere….while saying we need more time….promising fairness (socialism’s social justice in drag)…improving education and infrastructure (more government control of everything)….empty words that only sound reasonable if you are an Obama fan….or someone that’s not engaged in the process, and that, unfortunately still includes a whole lot of potential voters.

You are correct, but most economists say that it would not have taken that long if it were not for the policies of another progressive leftist, FDR. The Obamminst said in a recent interview that his stimulus bill “saved or created 3 million jobs”. Let’s do the math, at 750 billion, that would make each job be worth $250,000. How many people do you know that have landed a job through the stimulus bill worth that kind of money? I would say none. You need to stop drinking the kool-aid before you drown in it. This is not absolving the GOP, many of them did too, but please, let’s not pretend that it was failing in 2007. The news media was trying desperately to make it fail with breathless reports of high growth masked with the words “only”, yes, but that was to get the Dems the election and nothing more. The actual numbers show the failure in 2008. And Obama and the Dems voted en masse for every policy that caused it.

Beginning 2007 we start seeing the downward trend in job gains and increasing trend in job losses. 2009 there is a sharp spike in both. In 2010 we start seeing that reversal.
The unemployment rate is 4.4 on 12/06. Beginning Jan 07 the unemployment rate starts rising and it peaks at 10.1 in October 2009. It starts reversing slightly beginning Jan 2010 and has leveled off going in to 2011.
Wonder what caused these trends? Hmmm….I don’t know. Oh, that’s right – in 2007 the Democrats took control of the Congress and started implementing economy busting policies. Beginning 2009 they also had control of the Presidency when they had a SUPERMAJORITY and just forced all these bad policies on the American people (Obamacare, ARRA, Frank-Dodd, etc.). All this came to a screeching halt when? Oh – that’s right – when the GOP took over the House and the Senate lost its supermajority in the Senate.
So – with these trends – how is this bad economy the fault of Bush and the GOP? The trends clearly show that the job killing, economy killing, capitalism killing policies of those loony liberals is the problem and all the blame lies squarely on their shoulders.

Curious, the recession hit shortly after Pelosi won the House and Reid won the

And the point is on the mark. Haven’t heard Bush or Cheney take any responsibility for their failed economic policies, including virtually no job growth after the tax cut on the “job creators”.
For the semi-intelligent.. Demand creates jobs, not the wealthy. They along with mutual funds, pension funds and thus many average Americans provide capital to businesses in order to meet that demand. Concentration of wealth depresses demand and any Economics 202 student can reaffirm that.
The longer term issue affecting the economy right now is the decrease in real incomes and wages since the mid 1980′s due to the outsourcing of jobs to countries where labor is still exploited. In the 1990′s the demand was buttressed by stock market gains from the tech bubble. In the 2000′s demand was buttressed by excessive public and private debt. The balance sheet of the US and most Americans is now shot. Demand will not only not come back anytime soon, but continue to go down.

Your right in general, Bush, with wars, medicare RX plan, was no better in many ways that Obama. And, your right, that for decades, off the gold-standard,spending out of control, that a recession bubble was in the making. This assume you actually understand these facts.
But, your wrong, in ascribing( as all liberals and uninformed folks frequently do) Bush the ‘blame’ of the major problem that triggered our current situation: the housing bubble. While this was NOT Obama’s fault, it was only marginally Bush’s fault. In reality, the CRA( as I pointed out yesterday, and so many others have over the last 3 years) was triggered by Socialist Democrats, bent on ‘spreading the wealth’….that is, buying houses for those who couldnt afford it.
Yes, BUSH should have known about it, and contended it, and NO its not Obama’s fault—even if its HIS parties fault.
So, Obama doubles down with deficit spending and markedly worsens the problem. THAT is what he is responsible for.
NOW, you say the Tea Party wants a recession? That is pure nonsense.
But you can take your pick, sir, recession now, with sound money or GLOBAL catastrophe right around the corner.
And don’t you think for one minute that this is an exaggeration. Its coming. And the TEA PARTY is the only ‘group’ that is trying to stop it with earnest.
SO, you should THANK them, and not vilify them.

1) stop welfare in all forms from housing, food and school and all the other things
2) eliminate failing side bar goverment programs (FCC, Department of education the federal reserve)
3) Stop giving out foreign aid to other nations
4) stop taxing the people that make jobs
5) go after the coruption in the banking and senate, or anywhere for that matter
6) go and stop giving congress free things and put caps on their spending, and pay this includes the house
7) have the presedent pay for everything that he usses (air force 1)
8) start taxing mexico for all the illigals that are taking up our prision space
9) stop giving out bail outs
10) make laws that make it hard for anybody to declair bankrupsty
these 10 things and all the other ideas can start putting our economy on the right path to recovery
