‘Million Hoodie March’ Held NYC to Protest the Killing of Trayvon Martin

NEW YORK (AP/The Blaze) — The father of a black teenager shot to death by a neighborhood watch captain in Florida said he was “honored” by a march being planned for New York City in support of his son.
“It means a lot to me and my family knowing that people across the country, across the world, are coming together to get justice for Trayvon,” Tracy Martin told The Associated Press on Wednesday, hours before what was being called the “Million Hoodie March” was supposed to take place.
Martin’s son, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, was killed Feb. 26, in Sanford, Fla. He was returning to a gated community in the city after buying candy at a convenience store. He was unarmed and wearing a hooded sweat shirt at the time.
One of the organizers, Daniel Maree, told News One that the march is intended to protest “the absurdity of Trayvon [Martin's] murder.”
The shooter, George Zimmerman, has not been charged in the shooting and has said he shot the teen in self-defense after Martin attacked him. Police said Zimmerman is white; his family says he is Hispanic.
The case has ignited a furor against the police department of the Orlando suburb of 53,500 people, prompting rallies and a protest in Gov. Rick Scott’s office Tuesday. The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division said it is sending its community relations service this week to Sanford to “address tension in the community.”
Earlier in the week, the federal agency opened a civil rights probe into the shooting, and in Florida, Seminole County State Attorney Norm Wolfinger said a grand jury will meet April 10 to consider evidence in the case.
Martin said he and his son’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, found out about the march after arriving in New York City, where they have done some interviews about the situation. They got in touch with the organizers to say they would come and speak to the attendees.

The timing of Martin’s parents being in the city when the march is happening is “incredible,” said Maree. He heard about the case earlier this week, he said.
“I was outraged and wanted to do something about it,” Maree said.
“As part of the campaign, organizers have also asked people to upload pictures of themselves wearing hoodies,” according to NPR. “Slowly, the Million Hoodie March Facebook page has collected dozens.”
In recent days, information surrounding the teen’s death has been coming out, including 911 calls, and on Tuesday, an account from his family’s lawyer of a conversation he had with his girlfriend in the moments before his death was released.

Asked how he was holding up as all this information comes out, Tracy Martin said he was trying to stay strong.
“I don’t feel this is the time to break down, even though it’s a very troubling time in my life,” he said. “I’ve told myself, when I get justice for Trayvon, then I’ll have my time to break down.”

He did it and the difference that no-one seems to notice is that there was never any intention to arrest or prosecute Mr Zimmerman until the rest of the country heard about it. 911 told him to back off. He went after the kid and killed him. The kid was unarmed and NEVER presented a threat to him. This seems to me apparent and objective. He needs to face the consequences of his actions.

It does need to go to trial to get the rest of the facts out. So far I’ve seen/heard nothing so far that goes directly either way.
The 911 call only tells you that Trayvon ran from Zimmerman and that Zimmerman went after him. I’m waiting for the rest to come out before I make my own decision.

Zimmerman was a neighborhhod watch guy who worked closely with the police. The neighborhood is 51% black. The trouble there was legendary.
To all those do-gooders ready and willing to give this black thug the benefit of the doubt and condemn the Hispanic guy who shot him, let me tell you here and now the truth is beginning to come out and it is nothing like the gullible, do-gooder fools swallowed hook, line and sinker and lamented the wretchedness of “white” racism. The biased media as usual have distorted this matter completely out of context.
This is NOT a defenseless little kid. He‘s 6’2″ and was on suspension for 5 days for misconduct at his school. A witness has come forward with the following information: He reports that Zimmerman was on the ground and Trayvon is on top of him punching him. It is Zimmerman who was screaming and yelling for help on the 911 tapes. When the perp failed to stop punching him, Zimmerman shot him.
Police arrived to find Zimmerman bleeding on his face and the back of his head. He also had grass stains on his back. All this confirms the story told by Zimmerman and the witness. Police played the 911 tape for Trayvon Martin’s father, who tells police that the voice screaming is not the voice of his son.
More will be coming out. The evil bias here is shameful.

Plus Zimmerman has a criminal record and his neighbors said he was a crackpot. And what the hell is a neighborhood watchman doing carrying a weapon? He is NOT the police. Just a citizen who is supposed to be an extra set of eyes and not an untrained pseudo-cop. The people here get so bent out of shape when young people violate the law (OWS) but some crackpot hunting a black kid is A-Okay.

Look I am all for justice if they guy was in the wrong, but all the assumptions about what happened without evidence is just dumb. The guy in no way sounded out of control. This thing is being blown up to stir hate. Al Sharpton, Jesse, and the rest of the crew will milk this kid for every nickle they can squeeze out of him. Even if it is found out he did attack the shooter, the shooter will be blamed and riots will happen.

I’m suspicious , because this is giving every indication of being an incident like the Jena black on white mob attack where six black thugs stomped and kicked a completely innocent kid on school grounds and would have killed him had not a teacher broke it up and the corrupt media twisted things so far around there were people like you condemning the victim. The news falsely reported a noose hung in a tree created the scenario, but it was later determined it was no mare than an inter-rival prank.
The media never, ever condemned the 6 blacks, one of which was a repeated criminal, prone to crime and vilence.
Jesse and All came to his rescue with busloads of rent-a-mob welfare mammies to protest the “injustice” to Michael. (The black perp who was later jailed for other crimes.)
This has all the markings of that case.
If it turns out this zimmerman was at fault in no way would I protect him, but I’m not going to stand idly by while white do-gooders and racist, criminal blacks condemn this man without knowing more of the facts.

Let me make one point VERY CLEAR right now. There is absolutely nothing I have EVER known to be false that I have posted on this forum. The truth itself is enough of a horror to those who are not bogged down by desires to feel morally superior and become steeped in do-gooderism.
I ran across two stories verifying my comments. Here’s one. I‘m surprised you didn’t find if you really did do an honest search. There are others but you’ll have to get them yourself. The coming days will tell the true tale of what occurred. In the meantime, if these “hoodies” mob innocent white people and kill them I‘m assuming you’ll be silent on that, until you can again jump to conclusions in the defense of another black thug.

“Hispanic” is not a race.
Accurately there are many Hispanics who have a preponderance of Caucasian genes and are accurately classified as whites, because they consist mostly of Spanish blood.
A race is any group of humans that have enough similar characteristics to be regarded as an extended family.
Many Hispanics in Mexico, Central and South America are white.
The military and federal government incorrectly classify most Hispanics as either white or black, depending on what they look like. The Amerindians who are neither black or white are regarded incorrectly as white.
Zimmerman had a white father and a Amerindian mother, but he looks like many whites and probably has enough genetic similarity to be properly classified as Caucasian.

You’re probably right, momrules. But I think these unjust black repercussions are more apt to cause a race war than anything else.
After all the black on white crime their race commits it‘s really hypocritical of them to pretend every time a black criminal gets killed it’s due to white racism.
With the great unifier in office, and his anti-white minions, race relations have never been worse, and I’ve never seen white outrage at the pitch it is now all over the country.
We’ll have to fasten out seatbelts and wait for the impact, I guess.

Posted on March 21, 2012 at 11:07pmThe girlfriend of Trayvon said Trayvon told her he was being followed and she told her boyfriend to run – he said he wasn’t going to run and then she said she heard him ask Zimmerman, “Why are you following me” and in return Zimmerman asked why he was there. That would play well for the defense as Trayvon confronted Zimmerman first. This is not to excuse – this is to get the facts straight. Zimmerman following Trayvon is also not as clear cut as the MSM is reporting. Apparently on HLN tonight it was said that there had been several break-ins in the area. You could argue he was concerned and wanted to keep track of where the young man was going – at night, in the rain.
The mantra of ‘he is only 17 and was armed with ice tea and skittles’ is frustrating every time they say it as it is giving facts that Zimmerman would not have known. It was night, it was raining – the age of the young man and what was in his pockets would not have been known by him. Also there were wounds on Zimmerman which does appear to show a struggle – it was one of the reasons the police did not arrest him.
This is a tragic event and it should be investigated and if the facts dispute Zimmerman’s claim than it will go to trial but this coverage by the MSM is atrocious. Justice can not be found by an angry mob.

Derrion Albert was sixteen — only one year older than Trayvon. He was an honor student, and he was black. Derrion was beaten to death by five other blacks. We know exactly what happened, because his murder was videotaped
Derrion’s murder was brutal, vicious, evil. They struck him repeatedly with railroad ties, even after they had knocked him to the ground. They beat him until he was dead. There was a special effects guy in the background shouting “Bam!” every time Derrion got hit.
There was no march to protest the “absurdity” of Derrion’s murder. You see, when blacks kill other blacks it is never absurd. The crime scene only becomes incongruous or absurd when the picture is black-and-white, and the alleged killer is the one who doesn’t tan.
No one should take sides until the investigation has been completed, but the fact that Obama has said nothing about this so-called “hoodie march” is a clear indication that he and his minions want to instigate civil unrest.

It made news. Well she asked 911 if she should shoot the guy and they never really gave her a clear answer, except to do whatever to protect the child. She made the decision out of her own reasoning. There was also a news story in N.C. recently about a teenager who called 911 when some thugs broke into their home. I have the right to walk my streets at night to watch my neighbor’s homes when they are under attack by criminals on a regular basis. I have the right to follow anyone I think is a potential criminal. I have the right to ask someone why they are in the neighborhood. I have the right to bear arms.
Since everyone on here seems to be making up stories, but here’s another one that might not be so far fetched. I’m not saying this is what happened, but let’s just paint a picture to see where our moral compass really lies.
So…lets just say, it’s raining at night. My neighborhood has had multiple break-ins and the “authorities” have done nothing about it. So my neighbors and I decided to patrol the neighborhood. To protect myself at night in a neighborhood with criminals (obvious by the break-ins), I carry a weapon. I see a 6′2″ male walking in the neighborhood, at night, in the rain. I follow him to see where he is going. The male runs from me, so I get more suspicious and I run after him. Have I violated anyone’s freedom or rights to this point?? The male decides not to run anymore, for whatever reason, and turns to face me. He comes toward me and attacks. Do I have the right to defend myself?
Does it matter if the watchman is the black guy and the attacker white? I have a feeling many people on this site would wide with the watchman if the races were reversed.

It says the police don’t have enough evidence to convict. There has to be more to this story. There is a reason that there was a Neighborhood Watch and there was a reason why the Neighborhood Watch member was carrying a gun.
What was the march supposed to prove? What are the posters saying “I am Trayvon” supposed to do, have that child shot also? If someone wants to prove something, they should work towards cleaning up their own neighborhoods so tragedies like Trayvon don’t happen, rather than hassling people ten states away. It was 4 or 5 years ago. The animals car-jacked, then raped Christopher Newsom, cut off his penis, then set him on fire and fatally shot him several times while they forced his girlfriend, Channon Christian, to watch. An even more cruel fate awaited her! Channon Christian, was beaten and gang-raped in many ways for four days by all of them, while they took turns urinating on her. The name of the movement is taken from the fact that Martin was “suspicious” due to him being a black man wearing a hoodie. He was being profiled and you people are doing the same thing here by equating a black man wearing a hoodie to a thug. You’re proving their point. What you’re doing now is what people are trying to fight against. It’s the same reason Trayvon got killed. You don’t see a fellow human being dressed casually. I thought assuming race based on a name was racist, and assuming that only a white man can shoot a black man would be considered profiling..

I’m a middle aged white man with a son who is black. He just turned 20yo…he has been in the JROTC for the last 5 years and is going into the army this summer. He doesn’t see people as “black” or ‘white” he just sees them as people. We had the difficult task of explaining why people treat him differently, why what he wears and how he carries himself will determine how he is treated. We don’t allow him to wear his pants around his a$% as an example. The local police chief and officers all know my son because of his involvement in the JROTC as well as his volunteering in the community. He doesn’t dress or act like a hoodlum, he dresses and acts like a responsible young person and is treated as such. I guarantee tho, if we just let him run around and dress like a thug and look however he wanted, he would be in jail or dead and that is not profiling, that is cold hard fact!!!
There is more to this story than meets the eye, all the facts are not in yet and I’m holding judgement until the truth come out.

THe police had aenough facts at their disposal to arrest the man, press charges and let him be judged by a jury of his peers. The fact that he was not does not pass the smell test. Therefore all this. Though I think if the victim was white, there would be no where near the public outrage/demonstrations. Or if the victim was killed by another black person.
