Milwaukee Wisc. is Most Segregated U.S. City, and Other Quirky Census Facts

The number crunchers have been busy making heads and tails out of the the 2010 census figures–and some interesting figures have emerged.

Namely: Milwaukee is the most segregated U.S. city. People who live in Washington DC make wayyy more money than the rest of us suckers. And Detroit residents are itching to leave the Motor City.

So how segregated is Milwaukee? Here is a visual to help:

Milwaukee shares the infamous distinction of being one of America’s most segregated cities by such urban centers as New York, LA, Philly, and Detroit.

Here‘s the list of America’s top ten segregated cities:

1. Milwaukee

2. New York

3. Chicago

4. Detroit

5. Cleveland

6. Buffalo

7. St. Louis

8. Cincinnati

9. Philadelphia

10. Los Angeles

And while we’re talking about troubled American cities, the two U.S. city that experienced greatest rate of population decline were New Orleans and Detroit:

States like Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey top the list, with average personal incomes in the $50k range. Meanwhile, Mississippi comes in last–and West Virginia and Idaho are near the bottom as well, with incomes in the 30k range.

But when you look at the list closer, you’ll see that the figure for the District of Columbia, our nation’s capitol, at the very bottom–and that’s not because average personal income there is lowest. On the contrary: DC blows all the states out of the water. Its average personal income is $71, 044. That‘s about 15k higher than Connecticut’s $56k, and $30k higher  than the national average of about $40k.

    Why are the states with the highest personal incomes “blue states?” Does anyone out there have a rational explanation for this? I don’t understand it, myself. I’ve lived in both Mass and NH… I found them to be pretty much blue-collar states, and pretty patriotic to boot. There are so many contradictions here.. Anyone have a suggestion?

    Interesting, the 9 of 10 of most segregated cities are in liberal (BLUE) state won by Obama and are loaded with unions.

    Zero of the top ten were in the so called racial biased south which is predominately conservative (RED) states and have few unions.

    Looks like where unions thrive the black man suffers. Too funny, Obama, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton supporting the racist unions while BSing black liberal Americans.

    This is exactly why more and more blacks will be turning toward conservative leaders like West and Caine. They are realizing that they are being played.

    I live in Milwaukee. The blacks are on the north side and have the property taxes starting at $1100 or so. The Mexican population is on the south side across the via dock and their property taxes start at $2000 per year. The white crowds in the “name brand neighborhoods” are far south or far west and property taxes can easily top 3K on a small scrunchy home and a 2000 plus sq ft pad would be 4K and above. I bought my home on the north side. My family hates it but I never had any problems. I had no idea Milwaukee was the most segregated even though I lived here many years. I never noticed “segregation” until after Obama became president and divided our country into opposing parties.

    Having lived near Milwaukee most of my life heres what happened. The blacks started to move into an area. With them came the crime, drugs, lack of property upkeep……………..so , what would you do if the black Tsunami comes into your neighborhood……try to rehab them? Or get out while the gettings good…………I think the inner city should just unionize.

      We got the same deal here in Chicago except times 10 in the opposite direction, and thats why they cancel out our suburban votes making it appear IL is liberal when it’s not

      it’s very rural and red outside “CHEE cago mang” and now that there‘s about 20 ghetto ites and illegals per square foot in urban Crook County it’s practically lost since farmers in the south of the state are giving up.

    The reason for the high discrimination is nothing more than WELFARE! These cities, with Demoncratic administrations encourage this movement by promising a free ride using rent subsidies, food stamps, aid to dependant children, WIC and an innumerable host of other programs all intended, at first to be helpful, but now perverted into a system used to enslave the inner city populations and make them subserviant to the politician slavemasters. Milking “Donations” from these poor people using the fear that these “Benefits” may be cut off, funds and enriches the activities of the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Ferakhan and other“Activists”.

    America will never end this discrimination until the inner city poor are taught self sufficiency and given the will to succeed on their own. I hope that someday, that will happen.

    last year they had other maps where it shows cities by race too, absolutely staggering some of it. sad, because we can remember Chicago as a great place,
    all the different ethnic European immigrant neighborhoods of clean brick bungalows and rowhouse yards and pretty flowers and super-cathedrals and church festivals to explore and sightsee: do not dare to drive thru any of the towns to sightsee the old family childhood homes now, all black crime-ridden ghettoes now. tried in 1990s, and were taking our families lives in our hands even back then.

      My wife is from Chicago and tried the reminiscent trip with our kids a couple years ago… same result as you describe. Actually, come to think of it, AZ from my standpoint had the same thing happen. I was there in the early 70‘s and don’t remember hardly any problems anywhere in the Phoenix area… not so now. We got out in 2005. Unless you can live in the “upscale” areas now… forget it. Ask Snow… I think he still lives in Sunnyslope (which was a very nice area in 1970).

    I hate to say it , but the study is right. When I moved into Milwaukee it was nicely mixed(1985) By the time I left in 1998 it was COMPLETELY segregated. Once we had a wacked out lefty police chief, it went downhill within months and never recovered. He got rid of our “Gang Squad” and it just got worse and worse. Right now…..they won’t even report if a wanted fugitive is white or black. Big problem if you my be in the area of a crime. Best to just leave. I live in Ozaukee county now, we have lots of non-whites,non-blacks, non-asians,non hispanics…. and thats fine. We don’t keep score, we just all get along fine.

    One reason Washington DC’s wage score is so highis that the average Federal Worker makes far more per year average than any other workers in the country. All this because ot the use of out tax dollars. You, I and every other taxpayer in the country fund this lavish outpouring of largesse for the Federal workforce. The huge, bloated and largely ineffective bureaurocracies such as THE ENERGY DEPARTMENT, THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT, AMTRAK all of which are “Models of efficency” sucking tax dollars with far more efficiency than producing the intended results.       This article is appropriate since race was one of the few items being measured by the census in 2010.

      I’m wondering, however, doesn’t Milwaukee have a large middle eastern and Africal populations of fairly new immigrants? New immigrants tend to cluster together. I would think that that might contribute to the “most segregated” rating.

      HILLBILLYINNY, when I was a child in the 70′s my mother told be about the different parts of Milwaukee. She lived in Milwaukee since she was born in the 40′s. The Hispanic area on the map is known as “The Third Ward”. If you are from Mexico that is where you move to. A spanish speaking person could move there and fit right in. If you are not hispanic you don’t move to that area, period.

      Not “rather low” when you consider what they deign to pay the hired help and the unreal amount of “unreported income” at the top end. Net worth of inhabitants might be a more realistic gradient for an area as skewed as the economy of DC.

      Explains a lot… why the Milwaukee Public Schools test scores are in the toilet. I’ve lived in this lib-controlled state my entire life, the last 40 years in the lighter blue area next to the pink section. The quality of life has been on the descent for about 20 years now.

      Dems sure have done a crummy job of “helping” the poor and eliminating poverty… and they are still promising so-called change. Fairly certain nothing will change in my lifetime… not with liberal Dems in control.

      These statistics will surely be used to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that caucasions are responsible for anything deemed as negative in these areas and there is plenty of that and that it is purely racism that has caused these low forms of living. There will not be anything negative attributed to African Americans as leading to this situation. Since the African Americans are fully innocent of all things leading to such poor and crime ridden lifestyles. Then it must be those horrible white devils that creates this situation. There you go.       Cincinnati has taxed and regulated itself to the point everyone has fled to the burbs; this is reflected in the metropolis growth. Then these individual towns follow suit ( too much tax & reg) and they go fallow and wonder why; and raise taxes.
      Now the illustrious mayor of Cincinnati is PUSHING for a railed street that will run a total of five – six miles at a cost of $150,000,000. downtown — Univ of Cincinnati– the unbuilt casino. OH yea the city council is trying to balance their deficit with the projected tax funds of the unbuilt casino.

      I don’t get those maps…..if you’re area is 82% white, what are the other 18%? What % of the entire population is black? What about the parts on the map that show 50% black, what is the other 50%? Since blacks make up 12.3% of the total pupation, it would be impossible to have all areas of the state have a 50/50 split. So a perfectly equitable split would be areas that are pale blue entirely…..because 72% of the US population over all is white. The fact the certain races cluster or self segregate is bad because????? Love how they blame Walker turning down a high speed train that would cost $60 one way to ride, as the reason blacks can’t leave the city…….um I live on one of the biggest bus lines from the inner city to the burbs…..these buses run in front of my house all day and night. They go from the lakefront to the neighboring county and right out to a community in which I work, loaded with businesses……at the very most I have seen maybe 10 people on any one bus.

      Unfortunately, we are finding out that teachers often teach whatever agrees with their personal political ideology. That “Stuff” video that Beck uncovered last year was being taught by some teachers without the approval or knowledge of their administrations or school boards. These teachers saw it on Utube and thought it had a great liberal message with which they could brainwash their students.

      I went to the website of the progressive woman who made the video (which is really anti-capitalism and anti-American values), and she proudly brags that teachers just picked it off the Utube site and ran with it. In fact, she is encouraging more teachers to do the same thing.

      So my point is that you cannot exonerate teachers anymore. No one is closely monitoring what they are saying in the classroom. It is up to parents to pay really close attention to what their children are being exposed to in school. Ask questions and keep a good dialog going with their kids so that they don’t get hoodwinked by progressive nonsense.

      Not a scientific answer to your question, but an educated guess. With the exception of NH, VA and WY, all the states in the top ten have union membership above the national average with NY having the highest at about 25%. NH’s probably high because of all the people who live there, but work in Flatlandia; VA because of all the people in the northern burbs who work in DC; WY is an anomaly, but it could be because of all those CA stars who claim residency to avoid CA taxes.

      I notice that the incomes are not adjusted for the price of living.
      Who has more money one who makes 150k a year but with 120k in living expenditures: food, housing, gas, etc or the person who makes 50k a year but with 15k in living expenditures?

      Why don’t we see crime statistics based on race ? Yup you guessed it, to much black on white crime.
