Minn. Man Faces Jail For Feeding Birds in Own Backyard

A man in Bloomington, MN has run afoul of local bird feeding statutes, and he could spend up to 90 days in jail for the offense.
Craig Brown has said he wanted to make his yard a haven for birds. And local law allows for the installation of bird feeders as long as they are 5 feet off of the ground.
But neighbors claim that brown has been dropping seeds on the ground in his yard- which apparently constitutes a misdemeanor.
Brown refuses to plead guilty, saying that the seeds fell from his feeders, and he doesn’t want a criminal offense on his record. Still, he’s removed them for the time being.
“I am nervous,” he told WCCO-TV. “They have the right to send me to jail.”
He faces up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 3:02pmJust to clarify: Al Franken won because of the election-rigging courtesy of Soros-funded/SEUI-backed MN Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. Just a sampling of the votes proved at least 341 felons voted, ALL in favor of Franken (none of those felons voted for Norm Coleman). The whole race was rigged from GO.
Jesse Ventura won because the other two candidates were Skip Humphrey (son of Hubert H Humphrey, legendary Commie Senator of MN) and … you guessed it, Norm Coleman (the professional politician who can‘t help but live off the public’s trough)!
I know I voted for Ventura, because he said he wasn’t gonna play the political game. [Jesse was correct, he didn't play "usual politics"; he was just a complete F-tard in every aspect.]

90 days in jail and $1000 fine just isn’t enough for an offense so egregious.
As a side note, isn’t it amazing that they have time to dwell on such insignificant items while their finances are threatening to cause them to cut back on many things and personnel?
If they think this is atrocious, I wonder how they’re going to feel when they no longer have the money to pay more than two police personnel and rioters are burning up their neighborhoods, with a Mad Max scenario slowly developing.
Think they would wish for the good old days then, when their greatest concern was birdseeds on the ground?
Something tells me we deserve everything that is coming to us and this bloated, pampered society.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 9:53pmYou all need to realize that Minnesota as a whole is not like this. Most of Minnesota (by area) is a red state, but most of the people live in the urban areas, especially the Twin Cities and its suburbs (About 62% of the states total 5.3 million). Many of the districts are also broken up to include big cities which gives the favor to Democrats since most of the population is concentrated in the small area of the cities surrounded by a massive area of lower population conservatives in the rural areas. Keith Ellison was elected because his district is a huge liberal suburban area, where as just north of there is fairly conservative hence why Bachmann can keep her foothold there. I believe more and more every year the few conservatives left from the cities are moving out into the country side of Minnesota which shows in Cravaak’s win of the 8th district over Oberstar (who held the office for 36 years and received most of his liberal votes from Duluth).

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 2:18pmDoves don’t eat from feeders, only on the ground. This sounds like dove discrimination, figures the commies don’t like the symbol of the Holy Spirit. Make that religious discrimination as well. I’d sue, we can beat the commies at their own game, sue them for everything.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 1:49pmBird seed comes from grasses that grow on the ground. How dumb can we get America when we threaten jail time for feeding birds and having seed drop on the ground??? I sure won’t want those neighbors of his to be my neighbors. Sad, sad, sad.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 1:47pmAnd I wonder why this country hasn’t revolted against itself yet. 90 Days in Prison because you had bird feed on the ground, on your property. I thought common sense was common, here I am at 16 seeing my country go to hell. Lovely.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 1:54pmI’d say this is just a case of some unruly conservative birds with bad table manners! Maybe the progressives can start a school (funded by the government) to re-educate these birds on how to properly eat their bird feed!

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 2:02pmYes Alibertariancitizen, it is a shame. I am truly sorry that you will live in a world I never knew. At 16 I joined the Air Force and in the next four years saw the world. As a boy out of the back woods of Arkansas, I was amazed at the many different peoples. Our nation at that time was the most powerful in the world. I have watched as it has eaten itself until what is left does not resemble the nation I was born into. I’m sorry that my generation was so busy working to give our children what our parents could never afford to give us that we forgot the enemy was gaining ground inside and now with the election of Obama, they now have control. Those of us who walked the battle fields past, now shake our heads at what has become of the nation. The so called leaders in our stage and fed governments have destroyed or allowed our nation to be destroyed. Sorry young libertarian citizen, I do humbly apologize.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 3:59pmthis is something i hesitate to tell, but here goes. my father died in 1951 when his b-36 bomber went down in washington state. he left a wife , three kids and one on the way, who he never got to meet. he died doing what he thought was right. protecting his country. to this day ( i’m 60 ) i’m proud of my dad. but do you know what i wish i could do? i wish i could have a chance to say to him “change what you do dad, because when us kids are old, we’re going to see people work to make your death worthless. the way this country will turn out won’t be worth a lifetime without you. the people whose freedom you are protecting aren’t going to care about their freedom. and they won’t care that you died to protect it. it’s all going to be thrown away.” that’s what i wish i could do. you’re only 16. my generation is the last one to see america the way it should be. everyone at work. children playing outside without having to worry.neighbors watching out for each other. moms and dads both at home. people respecting the sacrifices of others. people respecting each others privacy. and a love for this country that you could see everywhere you went. i wish all children could grow up in that kind of country, but it’s gone. and yes, we allowed it to happen. i hope you have a good life.
