The Blaze is choosing not to post video of Coach Kill seizure in process
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota’s team doctor says head coach Jerry Kill is in stable condition at a local hospital after suffering a seizure late in the game against New Mexico State.
Kill was taken from TCF Bank Stadium by ambulance Saturday night after collapsing on the sidelines with 20 seconds to go in the game. Team doctor Pat Smith says Kill “was at no time under any risk in any way.”
Smith says the 90-degree temperature coupled with dehydration might have played a role in the seizure.
With the Gophers down 28-21 and trying for the tying touchdown, medical personnel suddenly surrounded Kill on the sideline. He was rolling around on the turf, with his arms and legs flapping back and forth at times, silencing the stadium.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill was taken by ambulance from TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday night after collapsing late in the game against New Mexico State.
With 20 seconds left on the clock, the Gophers trailed 28-21 with the ball, trying for the tying touchdown. Medical personnel suddenly surrounded Kill on the sideline. He was rolling around on the turf, with his arms and legs flapping back and forth at times, silencing the stadium.
After about 15 minutes Kill was put on a stretcher, and the crowd clapped and chanted “Jerry! Jerry!” as he was rolled away.
Kill twice had seizures late in games while coaching at Southern Illinois, once in 2001 and again in 2005. He also collapsed and had a seizure while taping a television show in 2006. Each time, he was able to return to work without missing a game.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 12:34pmOur son had his first seizure a year ago and it has got to be the longest 2 or 3 minutes on earth. We’ve learned not to panic, but one feels so helpless.
Our prayers for a quick recovery go out to the Coach and his family.
And thank you, Blaze, for not having the footage on the site.

Posted on September 12, 2011 at 4:50pmthere has been research done reflecting that the seizures are being caused by lack of essential insulating fats in the brain. treatments to that effect have reversed and completely eliminated seizures in people it has been tried in. worth looking into.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 3:57amI pray for him too. I have epilepsy and dehydration, more or less caffeine than you’re used to, exhaustion, stress can all lead to a seizure. I’m lucky in that mine are simple partial seizures and under control. I’ve never had one where I lost consciousness, that must be scary.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 7:22amLet’s hope this was an isolated event and Coach Kill will be fine. I have only witnessed one seizure of a fellow student in high school, but it was frightning for all who watched. Prayers go out to the coach, family, players and fans that he will be back on the side lines soon.
