‘Miracle:’ Toddler Falls Four Stories From Hotel Balcony…Into Arms of a Tourist

Yesterday we showed you that an unemployment office in Florida spent $14,000 to hand out red capes to the unemployed. Maybe they can take one over to this woman, who caught a toddler who fell four stories from an Orlando hotel balcony.

WKMG-TV explains:

Helen Beard, a tourist from England, was at the pool and saw the child hanging from the the fourth-floor railing and caught her as she fell, deputies said. Beard said it appeared that the girl slipped through a railing lining the walkway of the balcony, according to deputies.

Jah-Nea struck the third-floor railing as she fell, but she had no scratches, bruises or injuries, deputies said. She was playful and did not have any marks or appear to be in any discomfort after being taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital as a precaution, deputies said.

“It was a miracle,” Orange County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Denise Rollins told WKMG.

    please educate me on this new ability for fairy talers to give it to atheists and their position :)
    ______________________________________________

    Let me try :)

    !. If you don’t call yourself an atheist, what do you you call your belief system?

    2. When verbally assaulted in an obvious attempt to highjack a thread, one has only a couple of options. One would be to ignore the attempt…in which the one attempting to highjack the thread, or simply be a childish annoyance would claim success by the lack of responses. The other option would be to respond in kind and in balance to the tone set by the troll.

    How does that equate to the ones responding to “giving it to atheists”?

    So what is your position exactly? You don’t believe in God and you are not an atheist? Hmm…Barhaha hee haw. You are right this is fun.

    In my opinion, lack of belief is really an attempt by atheists to avoid facing and defending the problems in their atheistic position. You see, if they say they have no position by saying they lack belief, then their position is not open to attack and examination, and they can quietly remain atheists.

    You are a sly slithering one…but again, for what you are not…I AM

    I can remember something like this that happened in San Fnancisco. Only it was a wide receiver from a football team that did the catching. The problem is that he held the child over his head and when the crowd stopped cheering, he spicked him. okay, okay .I know that was sick.

    @What Would

    Section 8 is flawed, “made up fairy tale figures don’t work through me. only through you”. The statement qualifies the very existance in S-8′s mind of fairy tale figures as described, because he stated that they work through me. However, I have yet to hear back from S-8, guessing S-8 had to check the bank account to see if the ACH deposit from Obama has come in today.

    As for you, I know why you would’nt call yourself an atheist, but just like any good atheist, you fail to give a compelling argument as to why you call yourself an atheist. Speak the word, we are listening, then I will gladly engage.

    I believe in some superior power but really doubt there is any active involvement in stuff like this. People believe God saved this kid yet God allows other children to get cancer, to be molested and killed by maniacs, thousands upon thousands of poor children starve to death every single day. Part of God’s plan? I doubt it.

      @FoxholeAtheist

      The problem for you atheists is that atheism is coming under more serious attack by Christians and others who recognize its problems and are exposing them. Without a doubt, there are far more people in the world who believe in God (or a god) than don’t, and more and more Christians are tackling atheism as an untenable position. If the majority believe, that doesn’t make it right; but the increase in examination of atheism has made it more difficult for atheists to defend their position. This also explains why atheists, it seems, are becoming more aggressive in their attacks on theism in its different forms. There is an intellectual battle being waged, and both defensive and offensive measures are being taken on both sides. In the end, the truth will be known and atheism will become extinct.

      Jesus would vote freedom and individual responsibility to love our neighbors and help those around us. Jesus told the rich man to sell his possessions and give to the poor not because he was rich, but because he knew (as God) that his money was more important to him than righteousness. Being rich is not a sin. Being poor is not a virtue.

      The establishment of a nation that protected and promoted liberty, the economic variant being free enterprise and an individuals opportunity to turn an idea into a reality, was the greatest charitable gift the world has ever known besides Jesus’s self-sacrifice. Free enterprise and capitalism is either directly or indirectly responsible for the elevation of standards of living for billions of people that touches every continent. It is responsible for scientific, medical, agricultural, and cultural achievement at a pace that has allowed mankind to advance in a mere century what took 5,000 years to achieve previously.

      My point is that I don’t know, you don’t know. no one knows. The God that I believe in isn’t the cartoon that you worship. and the Bible is not HIS WORD. It was written by man. If you want to believe that God used to speak directly to people and doesn’t now or that the “God” you hear in your head means God is talking to you then that’s up to you. I’m not confused about what I believe. I know that there are many things I don’t know. Jesus was a real person, a philosopher who had some great ideas. But the guy was easily a liberal. He’s been highjacked by the right and is used to justify a giant money and power system which is ironic. He wasn’t white and he built his base off the dregs of society, the type of people you right wingers think are scum. Jesus was a real guy, not a magic man. The bible is not the defacto word of God. Lol. You don’t know, but you are sure that the Christians are wrong. Isn’t that a statement of knowledge? A pretty confident one judging by your condescension.

      You do *know* that all Christians *know* that the Bible is written by men, right? The question is: what were they writing about, and where did they get their motivations, and was their testimony true?

      You do *know* that all Christians believe that Jesus was fully man, right? A divinely delivered and empowered and resurrected man, but fully man in order to show that only he can be perfectly obedient.

      You do *know* that most conservatives are actually liberals, right? You do know that most liberals are actually progressive social-liberals, right? Go back and read FA Hayek (an Austrian libertarian laissez-faire economist) in the Road To Serfdom, and tell me: what does this capitalist call himself? LIBERAL. The definition of liberal changed with progressivism in the 20s, and the classical liberal legacy is now carried by the very people you hate: conservatives, economic libertarians, classical liberals.

      my point was that I DON’T know. meanwhile christians think they DO know. and if they thought Jesus was a man then they wouldn’t believe he rose from the dead. they’d read a history book and find out that the only accounts of him rising from the dead come from his followers, not supported by other writings. how quick would YOU be to doubt a story about Obama told to you by one of his supporters? Christians like to look down on other religions as though theirs is not as ridiculous. Jesus’s last words on the cross are revealing because he believed God would step in. God didn’t.

      @ WWJV

      You sound particularly assertive for someone who “doesn’t know.” Additionally, I’ll quote C.S. Lewis, one of the brightest minds of the Twentieth Century:

      “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg – or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us.” ~ Mere Christianity

      As to the Bible being written by men: yes. The key is the idea of divine inspiration: that though God let each writer write in their own unique styles, the truth in each book comes directly from the Spirit moving within each author. Look at how amazingly consistent each book is, not only within itself, but with reference to others, written by other people over a period that spans millenia. The notable differences in the Gospels about the various recountings of Jesus’ ministry show both different situations in which Jesus was reteaching a point, or vary minor differences in the details they noticed/felt important/were appropriate for the style of their writing. The fact remains that while the books have the same message, teaching, and points, John‘s writing is entirely John and Paul’s entirely Paul; Luke was a historian. It‘s convenient that archeologists and other soft scientists will accept other documents from ancient historians but not Luke because it doesn’t fit in the picture many of them want to paint.

      Define liberal. Do you mean one who gives freely to those in need and who values life? Or do you mean one who feels government should dictate when a person has enough, should dictate morals, and should determine who is fit and worthwhile to live? I’d agree that Jesus was a liberal if you mean the first definition. Which is a classical liberal. Guess what, that’s modern day conservativism. You quoted Luke 18:25. Good. Let’s look at others:

      Matthew 20:15 “Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?” (NIV) — admittedly, this is a parable about grace, not economy; however, it does show you can cherry pick things from the Bible to prove just about any point you want, just as you did.

      Also, read the Parable of the Talents (keeping in mind in those days a talent was a large sum of money) in Matthew 25:14-30. The parable itself praises the ones who make money (capitalistic ventures, perhaps?), while its meaning suggests that one must work.

      The Bible has harsh words for those who do not work (note: “do not” rather than “cannot”): 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 (NIV): “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘If a man will not work, he shall not eat.’

      “We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.”

      That doesn’t sound like a position that can agree with the modern form of Welfare, Health Care Reform, and other entitlement programs, does it? Also note the urging to do what is right, which has been shown throughout the Gospels time and time again to help those who cannot help themselves. To consider the wealth you may be blessed with as a tool for serving God and helping others.

      Your points are largely contradictory: you claim you know what you believe, and yet claim you do not know. Which suggests, then, that your belief is founded in doubt. However, despite a belief in doubt, you steadfastly proclaim to know that Jesus would be a liberal and imply Christianity itself is flawed. Your lack of nuance in Christian theology exposes a lack of understanding. So, you‘re largely arguing against something you don’t understand with an argument founded in a belief in doubt. That’s a shaky foundation.
