Miss Piggy Attacks Fox News During Muppets News Conference in London

During the golden age of cable news, Youtube, social media and what some would call a general lack of political civility, the traditionally family friendly Muppets were thrown into the public arena last December. At the release of their most recent film “The Muppets,” critics alleged that the franchise had been hijacked to forward a partisan, anti-business agenda.
“We’re teaching our kids class warfare!” Fox New’s Eric Bolling infamously said of the film on December 2, in the midst of the Occupy Wall Street movement. “Where are we, communist China?”
The comment was in reference to the film’s villain, Tex Richman, an evil oil baron.
Bolling’s remarks quickly went viral, leading the film’s director to speak out a week later to denounce claims that his film was spreading a communist, anti-capitalist message.
“It’s a very strange turn of events to hear a question like that,” director James Bobin told the Hollywood Reporter . “”No, the Muppets are not communist.”
“The Muppets” received strong reviews and has grossed more than $87 million at the box office since its Thanksgiving release, with the minor controversy seeming to be all but forgotten.
Until now.
The film‘s stars lashed out at Bolling and his network while taking questions at a London press conference Thursday to promote the film’s UK release.
“It’s a funny thing, they were concerned about us having some prejudice against oil companies,” said Kermit D. Frog. “I can tell you that’s categorically not true. And besides, if we had a problem with oil companies why would we have spent the entire film driving around in a gas-guzzling Rolls-Royce?”
“It’s almost as laughable as, ahhh…accusing Fox News as…you know, being news!” Miss Piggy interjected over laughter from the press in attendance.
Kermit quickly assessed how Miss Piggy’s comment would enflame the Muppets ongoing tiff with the network:
“That’s going to be all over the internet!”

You can do better with your time and life don’t you think? Is there really a need to deride, belittle, smear and sneer? I swear, if you go out and be nice to somebody today without political tinted glasses, and you don’t tell anybody in your circle of flippant cynics, it will feel good. Promise. Don’t even tell us here, just go be nice to somebody you don’t know with no strings attached, and you never know, you may just find it more fulfilling than belittling and hating others you haven’t met in real life.
I’ve never liked the Muppets, to be frank. When they were “the thing” in the 1980′s I thought that they were stupid. Continuing to “adore” them as an adult smacks of arrested development if you ask me.
Of course they’re being used for political purposes. Everybody has become so Soviet these days, so attuned to dishing out or railing against a constant stream of political propaganda. It’s a hell of a way to waste a life.

However, they better be careful because it is the parents of their target audience that pays for those movie tickets and you reap what you sow. The newspapers and the rest of the mainstream media are feeling the pinch of ticking off conservative main st. America. Fox News has and continues to have the highest overall ratings of any cable news outlet and more than twice the all the others combined. I do have the opinion that even Fox is turning on it’s audience a little as well, though and they had also remember who their customers are. We are the ones paying the bills in this country and everybody better remember where their bread is buttered is all I’m sayin.

All Muppet characters originally belonged to the Jim Henson Company, but when the opportunity came for Sesame Workshop to buy its characters for $180 million, Kermit was not included in the deal.
The character now belongs to The Muppets Studio (owned and controlled by the Walt Disney Company). Sesame Workshop does have permission to use old sketches featuring Kermit, but such sketches are rarely used in new episodes. Kermit made his first new appearance since 2001 in the show’s fortieth season premiere on November 10, 2009.”
Wow, a single appearance in the last decade.
The Muppets aren’t teaching kids 1-2-3 or A-B-C these days.

The Simpsons tends to be somewhat political at times, & Married was raunch TV. With those shows, you got what you expected & many parents (particularly Conservative ones) filtered this stuff out of their kids’ TV viewing b/c of it.
The Muppets used to be pure entertainment with only one political message- the frog and pig love story (interracial marriage). You could count on a few songs, an endless list of cameos from celebrities, and lots of comedy, slapstick- what have you, and (until 2003) you used to get what you expected.
I know almost every Muppet movie has a villain (by contrast in 1999, Muppets in Space, it was a government lackey), but it never had the Evil Rich element until fairly recently.
It’s been, in order:
a frog leg resturanteur,
a jewel theif,
none in Muppets Take Manhattan,
Scrooge,
Long John Silver,
a government lackey,
(finally, in 2003) an evil rich banker trying to foreclose on the Muppet’s Theater,
the Wicked Witch of the West,
and now an evil rich oil man trying to foreclose on the Muppet’s Theater.
You notice the two movies dealing with the evil rich are the only ones where the very existence of the Muppets is put into jeopardy. I’m sorry, but that’s a “coincidence” I can’t overlook.
They’re teaching that the evil rich want to shut everything down. That’s Class Warfare

I never saw any political slant in the show as a child and stopped watching anything to do with them once I hit 12 years old. It looks like the raving Progressive idiots have taken over for Mr. Henson. When are they going to understand that they are insulting a huge swath of their audiance when they say things like this? They are the Muppets for God sake!! Leave them out of politics and entertain !!

They are catering only to the adult progressives who watched them back in the 70‘s and 80’s and who hopefully didn’t want to add too much footprint by procreating. There’s other stuff on that kids would rather watch on cartoon network. Political propaganda is going to lose the audience Muppets were first intended for… children.
