Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said he’s “at peace” with his decision not to join the GOP presidential field.
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Daniels reiterated his earlier statements that his choice not to run was a family decision, and said he has no intention of reconsidering.
“This race can do fine without me,” he said.
Deflecting speculation about whether he would ever agree to be someone’s running mate, Daniels said it’s “such a far-fetched question” that he doesn’t answer it.
But as far as the current crop of candidates goes, Daniels said he thinks the campaign is off to a good start.
“Those are good people with a lot of character and a lot of them I think have the right skill set to be president,” Daniels said, noting that he would campaign for whichever candidate ultimately gets the Republican nomination.
At the same time, he said, there’s nothing wrong with more people entering the field, saying it’s “a more the merrier situation” to find the best candidate to beat President Barack Obama for re-election next year.
Whoever the nominee is, Daniels said he hopes he hopes they will have an inclusive message.
“I personally hope that our party wil speak the lang of unity,” Daniels said. “We don’t need to bash the president — the failure of what he’s done for this country is pretty obvious to us all.”

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 6:41pmI agree with CNN and Rasmussen polls that Ron Paul is the strongest candidate to beat Obama since he brings lots of independents and anti-war democrats on board. After Bush=Obama central planning of economy (playing with interest rates, money supply, whom to bail-out – whom to fail, etc) and endless wars, people need some sanity – sound money, return of the capital that fled to China back to USA, jobs, meritocracy.
Only Ron Paul brings real issues to the table. The rest only demagogue for “small government” while growing the government power through Pentagon, CIA, TSA, Entitlements of all sorts to their special interest groups.
That is why active duty US military donate more to Ron Paul than to other GOP candidates COMBINED. That is why bankers and lobbyists do not give Ron Paul a penny, while people just this weekend collected $1,560,000 for his birthday in small donations of $20.12

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 1:27amRepubliCorp, funny that you mentioned. You do.
Report Post »In your case, instead of Individual Liberty and sound money, your “kook” is special interests, endless un-winnable wars, paper money. More of the same Bush=Obama, most people are tired of.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 7:18amCurious, you seem to worship big government. An idea that has never worked. Big government is like a cancer. The more it grows the less efficient and then becomes destructive. We’re witnessing that now. I don’t agree with everything Ron brings to the table but we are much more alike than we are different.
For my part, I will keep a relative open mind and listen to the issues. One thing is for sure, I will vote for my old broom in the basement before I vote for Obama or any other nut-job trying to usurp power and his thinly veil attempts to destroy the American way of life.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 5:01pmI‘m glad he is ’at peace’ with his decision… because I’M NOT! I was terribly disappointed and still am damn angry… mostly at his Wife. Mitch had done EXACTLY what D.C. needs to do.. and if you say he has zero charisma.. then you clearly have not seen him speak. Read his record of accomplishments in Indiana….. He would have made an excellent Candidate. The GOP “establishment” did NOT want him because he said he would not make “social issues” his primary focus… once again – exactly what the GOP SHOULD DO… but noooooooooooooooooooooo. So now we a loon like Bachman who thinks Gays can be “converted” into being Straight… sigh……… aarrgghh!

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 4:12pmGood for mitch. not everyone needs to run but he’s wrong about Obama bashing: We need to keep his failures at the front of every one’s campaigns. And to stop bashing other GOP candidates so much.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 4:08pmIf his remark was “this race can do fine without me”…then I’m glad he did not waste my time or anyone elses…the attitude should be “can the country do fine without me, or am I the one the American people need to get things back on track.”
