Mitt Romney Finally Responds to President Obama’s Unilateral Immigration Policy

Mitt Romney Responds to President Obamas New Immigration Policy for Young Illegal Immigrants

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney (Photo: AP)

Though Mitt Romney initially punted when asked about his stance on President Obama’s major shift in U.S. immigration policy, the GOP Presidential candidate said Thursday that he would replace Obama’s “temporary fix” with a permanent solution while speaking at a Hispanic leadership conference.

(Related: Romney Won‘t Say He’ll Overturn Immigration Order)

“Some people have asked if I will let stand the President’s executive order,” said Romney. “The answer is that i will put in place my own long term solution that will replace and supersede the president’s temporary measure. As President, I will not settle for stop-gap measures.”

He went on to say that he will “prioritize efforts that strengthen legal immigration and make it transparent and easier.”

“We may not always agree, but when I make a promise to you, I will keep it,” Romney added.

Obama’s new directive, which was not approved by Congress and is being called an “executive order” by some, will prevent hundreds of thousands of young illegal aliens from being deported if they meet a specified set of guidelines laid out by the Department of Homeland Security.

Romney argued Obama did “just enough to get him through the election” in regards to immigration reform. He lamented, “I think you deserve better.”

“Despite his promises, President Obama has failed to address immigration reform. For two years, this president had huge majorities in the house and senate… but he did nothing to advance a permanent fix for our broken immigration system. Nothing,” Romney said. “Instead, he failed to act until facing a touch reelection, and trying to secure your vote.”

Among Romney’s other presidential ambitions are to “re-double efforts to secure the border,” field more Border Patrol agents, and completing a high-tech border fence.

He also said the U.S. benefits when immigrant families are kept together and not separated, but he argues, “today too many families are caught in a broken system.” To address this, Romney said he would issue more green cards to those who “seek to keep their families under one roof” and eliminate unnecessary red tape for certain immigrants.

As far as I am concerned Ronald Reagan created this immigration mess by not securing the border before granting amnesty. Big business proponents like Santorum and Gingrich didn’t push securing borders and voted against everify when in congress to please big business. Bush was worthless when it came to securing the border…as a matter of fact, I think Bush was pushing for open borders.

So here we are needing to win 40% of Hispanic vote in order to win the presidency. How do we propose doing that and at the same time clean up the mess left by Reagan,Bush and other Republicans?.

Romney’s first initiative before anything else is securing the border then working with Congress to streamline the immigration system to promote legal immigration not illegal immigration and not amnesty.

      FALSO:
“If immigration were the defining issue of this election, you’d have a great point. But it’s not. Illegal immigrants aren’t stealing our jobs. They are doing the shite work that keep our economy going.”
      VERDAD:
Immigration has been one of THE HOTTEST GRIEVANCES of the American people for a decade. The Minutemen movement helped pave the way for the Tea Party. But the leftist republican/democrat party REJECTS LAW, same as the illegal alien criminals, and has TREASONOUSLY aided their invasion. It is a less grotesque PRIMA NOCTE – the CORRUPT government dilutes liberty (American population) by FORCE-injecting an ocean of third world socialism (illegal alien population).

Consequently, THOUSANDS have been murdered, raped, child-molested, home-invaded, and hammered-driving hit-n-run over by these criminals. ON TOP of having their jobs stolen – IN DOUBLE-DIGIT UNEMPLOYMENT!!!!!!!

And Romney… speaking at an ETHNOCENTRIC, TRIBALIST, RACIST gang-rally… promises to IGNORE LAW… as long as it gets him into office… ironically the SAME THING OBAMA PROMISED!

DIOS MIO, I don’t know HOW these men avoid jail. Or trick ANYONE into… VOLUNTARILY VOTING FOR THEIR OWN DOOM!!!!!

Romney — the one who doesn’t call the U.S. “occupiers”.

Rubio, the media and sheeple’s darling is for the Dream Act and giving amnesty. Why would Romney be any different? “The poor kids”. That is what every progressive uses to get their agenda through. Who wants to be against “the kids”.

What really ticks me off is the fact that the TOTUS could not get the legislation passed so he just by-passed Congress. Then the useless Congress just lets him. Rather than be upset that he went around them and that the vast majority of American citizens do not want the Dream Act ,the RINO’s biggest complaint is that the actions of the TOTUS were to boost his re-election chances. Both parties want the Latino vote so they will do what they can to get it, even if the other 3/4 of Americans do not want it.

I do not understand why any Latino who came here legally would agree to allowing other immigrants, latino or not, to come here illegally and take from the public funds that they pay into.

We put a man on the moon. We can built a fence or secure a border. Even China managed to get it done aeons ago when they built the Great Wall of China. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. The problem is there is no will because the government doesn’t want to do anything about illegal immigration. (Sort of like our tax code. They could change it, easily.) They could, but they don’t want to.

There is too much money being made on this “21st Century slave trade.” Those that speak out against it are RACISTS. The “kind hearted” individuals who are for illegals in this country have no problem with the fact that these people are second class citizens who work in sub-minimum wage jobs, in poor working conditions, in poor living conditions with no legal protections. No, they aren’t mean-spirited racists, apprarently the rest of us are.

I would close the border and level the playing field but who am I? Just a libertarian-leaning Republican (i.e. one of the good guys – we know who we are). That’s why the Democrats (kna socials/communists/marxists) work so hard to portray us as the enemy. They simply accuse of being what they, themselves, ar.

Wa wa wa .. If you marry a non US Citizen that was living in the US and does not have a green card you have to leave the country for a year and then maybe allowed to come back.. SO what does this do for a family, If you are single parent and you get sent to jail, doesn’t this break up the family since the kids are going to school, and are not in trouble.

The immigration issue the way Obama and I bet Mitt see it will encourage more to come across the border. In the old days people came to this country leaving their wives and children behind and when they got a job and were doing fine and got the green card they brought their family over. There was no whining/crying that this breaks up families and these children were brought to this country at no fault of their own. Now they all come across and push for the amnesty.

I realize that sending back all these illegals is not possible, but they will leave on their own if there is no work for them.. That is have the companies do the selection and if they break the law then confiscate the companies assets just like we do to the drug dealers. Put the assets up for sale. This will reduce companies hiring illegal cheap labor. To do this people like Holder and the liberal courts have to accept the principle.

I addiiton set up a work permit system. This permit does not include wives, children, and extended family. Plus make a finite number of work permits.

Please do, and we will see how you feel when you loose your job to an illegal, or you have to wait in an emergency room for hours because it is too crowded, or your children can’t read or write because they have to wait till children of illegals have to complete English as a Second Language, or you are in accident and they have no insurance.

By the way did you get off on the comments and response you got. Did it make you feel better.

      @CHROMO200
It made me laugh at how terrified you people all are of a bunch of immigrants entering the lowest socioeconomic tier of the State–people who take jobs you legally CAN’T take, because you as an American citizen (I’m going to ASSUME you are not a hypocrite here illegally) are REQUIRED to not work for less than minimum wage. Does that answer your question?

None of those things will happen for two reasons–one, they aren’t happening in the pandemic you seem to think they are (as if people here living in fear of deportation who have NO IDEA what the law might do to them are lining up to receive government benefits, lol); and two, as I possess something called “an education” and “intelligence” (as well as a number of other advantages, not least of which is NOT being an immigrant) I compete EVEN LESS with illegal (or legal) immigrants than most, because I am in a DIFFERENT socioeconomic tier which few, if any, of them (certainly not illegal immigrants) make it to.

Besides all that, your zero-sum view of socioeconomics is a self-fulfilling prophecy–immigrants NEED NOT be a hindrance if the socioeconomy is structured to BENEFIT ALL from their contributions. Society and economy serve whatever purpose the polity designs them to serve–the few in the status quo, but that doesn’t mean it MUST be so into perpetuity.

      @QPWILLIE
It’s not ALL Americans that are shameful–just the ones like yourselves.

      Also there is no fence.

Also, I like it here, and I like MOST of the people here–there’s just SOME that are morons. But that’s going to be the case ANYWHERE you go. I’d much prefer to stay here and make America the kind of country it ought to be–I owe at least as much to the sane and struggling Americans, the country of my birth and my kin.

Besides, I just LOVE watching conservatives squirm over anything vaguely Leftist far too much to leave, ha ha ha ha.

@ The Third Archon .. So you have an education and at a different socioeconomic level. What about the rest who don’t have what you have. I have an education and I am not afraid of the immigrants. I just want people to abide by the law.

Is this happening at a pandemic level .. Humm not the way you say it, but in the agriculture area yes, in the landscaping area yes, the service and food area yes.

The issue you miss in all of this … most of us are immigrants and most came here for a better life, but we followed the rules. Most of us are not against immigration just that we want people to follow the rules and not ask for handouts because you believe you deserve it.

This is a smart move, in my holy opinion. The very raw base of Obama‘s executive thingamijg isn’t wrong – the condescending timing and way in which he did it (i.e. Catch, Release, Vote) is completely self serving and insulting to all illegal aliens regardless of status or age. Obama treats you, the illegal alien, as a stepping stool.

Giving good people who love America a chance to be Americans is good; if you love America, I want you here, but we have to do this the right way that doesn’t equate a proverbial bird-in-the-face to those who try to legally emigrate. Like Romney implied: let’s fix the whole broken immigration system, not just what is politically expedient.

      Well said!

I would add that we must SECURE the border as part and parcel to any meaningful immigration reform.
What good is actual reform, if the border is wide open for others to ignore the law, the process, the procedure?
But, even more importantly, securing the border is “The Right Thing To Do”
You see, the drug cartels are farmers. Farmers with a highly lucrative product. One with high demand in America. An ILLEGAL product, that they must smuggle in.
Now, here in the land of the free, we learned long ago, farmers require roads to get their goods to market. So, states like Texas, built lots of “Farm to Market” roads (FM).
Without those roads, the farms cannot continue to exist.
Cut off the supply route, you kill the farm!
The cartels don’t do this because it is “fun” nor because they “hate” America.
They do it for MONEY !
Remove the profit, and they will initially attempt to continue, but, it will be too difficult.
After infighting for the tiny remains of their industry, they will retire to some huge mansion in South America somewhere.

So, SECURE THE STINKING BORDER ALREADY !
Oh, and don’t say, “It’s too big”
      Israel can do it.
We can put robots on Mars.
      We CAN secure our border.

    2. He wants to give green cards to everybody who completes an “advanced degree”….. are these people more priveledged than people without advanced degrees?)
    3. He would put in place a federal employment ID system. This is the same system so many conservative states have been fighting AGAINST for constitutional reasons…..(why is it the employer’s job to enforce immigration policy?)

@WAKINGSHEEP – I didn’t say you “hated” America, but I did ask you why you would love a country you claim is the cause of pointless wars which killed hundreds of thousands of innocent lives. Or why you would love a country you claim is responsible for 9/11. I said you only love the America YOU want it to be.

I think America is the greatest country in the history of this planet. I think this world is a BETTER place because of America. I think America is the cause of what little stability we have on this planet, NOT the cause of the instability. I think much of this world would be ruled by dictators if it wasn’t for America and our shining example of what freedom offers.

Anyhow, as you can tell, I have issues with people who blame America for 9/11 as well as most of the wars and suffering in this world.

When you retracted your previous statements about all the bad you think America has caused, then I will retract my assertions as well.

Whether anyone on here likes it or not, kids have been born here and are Americans, period. I agree, close the borders and sit down with with the representatives of those who are not here legally, and work out a sensible plan, that keeps families together, removes all criminals, (no matter what) and find a way that is reasonable to remove those who aren’t doing well and need to back, as society can no longer afford them. Find a way for some through the military, and screen out the gang members carefully. There are ways that this can be reasonably done, better smarts than I have, but some are going to stay. Until they are citizens the rules need to change about whsat they can get from us. As for that idiot who wants colledges to give them special privilages-fire ‘em. There is no slash and burn that is going to work out well for anyone, so it’s time to figure it out without anger. But I say again, close the borders FIRST.
