Mitt Romney Slams Obama at Military College — and Cadets Cheer

Mitt Romney Slams Obama at Military College — and Cadets CheerRepublican presidential candidate Mitt Romney delivered a sharp rebuke of President Barack Obama’s foreign policy at the Citadel in South Carolina on Friday, drawing cheers from the cadets seated on stage behind him after one particular knock on the commander-in-chief.

Romney said “the feckless policies of the last three years” have weakened the United States and damaged its credibility, and insisted America must return to its earlier prominence.

“This century must be an American century,” the former Massachusetts governor said.

The Weekly Standard:

“I believe we are an exceptional country with a unique destiny and role in the world,” Romney said, with an audience of cadets sitting behind him. “Not exceptional, as the president has derisively said, in the way that the British think Great Britain is exceptional or the Greeks think Greece is exceptional. In Barack Obama’s profoundly mistaken view, there is nothing unique about the United States.”

Romney criticized the president on cutting the defense budget, as well. “I will reverse President Obama’s massive defense cuts,” he said. “I will begin reversing Obama-era cuts to national missile defense and prioritize the full deployment of a multilayered national ballistic missile defense system.”

In his closing argument, Romney contrasted his vision of America’s role in the world with that of Obama. “I will not surrender America’s role in the world,” he said. “This is very simple. If you do not want America to be the strongest nation on Earth, I am not your president. You have that president today.” The cadets appluaded.

Classic liberals are actually more conservative than the Republicans in congress today with true constitutional values and very minimal government. The only major thing I disagree with Ron Paul on is Iran. I like everything else about him including his foreign policy away the free handouts to other countries. But Iran should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons while a mad man is in charge, sorry but no. Haven’t we learned our lesson from Hitler in WWII?

As a veteran, I am horrified by the thought of what would be in my mind, if I was still in the service today, and knowing that my Commander in Chief, that I was sworn to obey, was a traitor and a liar, bent on not only destroying my America, but making sure as many of me and my brothers ended up as cannon fodder along the way…..I used to regret being retired from the military, but now I‘m just very thankful that I don’t have to deal with the reality of serving under Fuhrer Obama.

And he plans on doing an across the board audit of each Fed. department and the elimination of the Department of Education. These are but a few of the things Mitt Romney believes in and anyone who says he is not a conservative is either a liar, ignorant of his positions, or biased against LDS. Mitt is one of the most conservative in the race and it is the media that has distorted his image trying to make him out to be less than conservative but even that will backfire as it will get many moderates backing a true conservative. “Vote for a candidate that says what he means and means what he says and has a record to prove it.”

The hypocrisy of “Dr. No” doesn’t end with deceptive campaign ads about his record and the betrayal of his purported libertarian principles. He is also a downright fraud when it comes to big-government spending. While representing himself for decades as the sworn enemy of overspending, the good doctor has had his snout deep in the earmark trough. In 2007, the Wall Street Journal reported, “The Congressman disclosed his requests this year for about $400 million worth of federal funding for no fewer than 65 earmarks. They include such urgent national wartime priorities as an $8 million request for the marketing of wild American shrimp and $2.3 million to fund shrimp-fishing research.” And this is the man who had the effrontery to berate Ronald Reagan for deficit spending.

Considering this affinity for earmarks, combined with numerous congressional votes that cannot be reconciled with his professed principles, one would think that most libertarians would by now have said “no” to “Dr. No.” And some have. Libertarian economist Arnold Kling became disenchanted several years ago: “Many well-meaning libertarians signed on to the ‘Ron Paul revolution.’ At first, this only required accepting his pro-life and anti-immigrant stances as libertarian, contrary to the leanings of many libertarians, but to dismiss all doubts about his judgment and his character would be to

Ron Paul is the ONLY GOP candidate that isn’t for the one world agenda, NAFTA and open borders. Bush didn’t close the borders, Obama doesn’t close the borders. As long as you only look at Democrats or Republicans for the answers — you won’t find any.

No help for the elderly/needy? America is broke. Ron Paul wants to close unnecessary military bases (over 700 to choose from) and use that money to protect the border, balance the budget and take care of the needy.

The guy is a business man, not some wolf in sheep clothing. Romney is probably one of the few guys that really wants to put the country back on the right course. This isn’t about money, fame, or power. He really wants to change the course of the nation. I have changed my stance on some issues of the years. Have you? If you haven’t than good for you but there is nothing wrong with learning and changing ones mind. Romney is worth 200 million so he doesn’t need the headaches of being ripped apart by his fellow conservatives. The GOP is going to scare away any chance of successful conservative businessmen and women with strong moral compasses from even running for elected office. Romney received no salary while governor and turning around the Olympics. Unlike Perry and other candidates he can’t be bought because he has all the money he needs.

In 2010 Romney contributed money and time to help several conservative tea party candidates get elected as well. When Romney was MA governor, the state was 3 billion in debt and when he left office 4 yrs. later, MA had a 2 billion rainy day fund without raising taxes. Romney moved the most liberal state in the country to the RIGHT and Romney also took a tough stand on illegal immigration. Perry on the other hand moved the state of Texas to the left by doubling the size of government and offering illegal immigrants perks.

Romney is a true conservative who had the misfortune of governing a liberal state, so everyone immediately assigns him with the RINO moniker because they assign the views of the liberal legislature to Romney, which is not fair. If I were a Republican strategist I would tell anyone who wants to run for president on the GOP ticket some day to not run for governor of a MA,NY,NJ or CA.

Is that what the GOP wants? To discourage Republicans from even running in these liberal states?

Should Mormon parents tell their children that,”you can grow up to be anything you want in the United States, except President.”?

You should view Bill Bennet’s speech on you tube. I share his sentiments regarding this whole matter.

I keep thinking I want a president who knows everything there is to know on how to run our Country. I realize now there is not a perfect person anywhere for this job. But, we must remember that he/she will surround themselves with lots of people that do have expertise experience in the areas that they are lacking. I like Cain and Romney, but trust is a issue with me. The POTUS we have now is the worst of the worst and we can’t get much worse, can we?

So you think adding a brand spanking new ‘national sales tax’ that will be raised over time is the answer? You want to pay 17/18/19% on your purchases? This is something the progressives have been wanting for ages and Cain says he’ll deliver it. And you approve of an enemies list like what Nixon had only this time one naming countries? That is what Cain is proposing with his ‘Cain Doctrine’: “Clearly identify who our friends are. Clearly identify who our enemies are, and stop giving money to our enemies.” Diplomacy is out the door with that terrible policy. And we taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidising ANY country.
      Aren’t we Taxed Enough Already?
As for Romney, during that speech he said ‘We are a democracy’. No we are NOT. We are a Republic and any presidential candidate that does not know that is not worthy of the job. He also wants to grow the size of the military industrial complex. And he wants to put aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean as a ‘deterrent’ to the Iranian regime. sounds okay is you are a warmonger but I’m sure that will be seen as a threatening gestures by the lunatics running the show. Everyone was up in arms when we found out about Iran’s plot to have ships surround America, as we should do, but there are many innocent Iranians stuck in that country who have every right to fear what their leaders will do to them because of an action like that.
Please do a better job at vetting the candidates. As for me, it’s Ron Paul 201

I serve in the US Army. I have a platoon of 29. I have a lot of good soldiers, but I see a lot of soldiers that are not close to being “cream of our country.” Besides, as future Officers and Soldiers in the Army they should start getting use to the idea that President Obama is the Commander and Chief and their boss. I don’t think that when they join they could boo their Battalion Commander or even Company Commander.

      >JAMESM80. I find your comments a little disheartening regarding some of our Soldiers. Are you a Platoon Sergeant or a Platoon Leader? Either way… it’s your job to help train/school/mentor those Soldiers into becoming the “cream of the country”. Not everyone who comes into the Military has their **** together, or keeps their **** together if it once was. You have the opportunity to help get them that way, or keep them that way regardless of who is President of the United States.

Teaching and training Soldiers goes way beyond Military tactics. Sometimes you have to start from the ground up and it requires something more than just being an NCO or a Commissioned Officer. Take your life experience and help them with theirs. It may take you to their beginnings… long before they joined the Army.

You must be joking. America is anything BUT a warring nation.
Have you forgotten the words of our Founding Fathers?
“If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.” – James Madison
“War has been avoided from a due sense of the miseries, and the demoralization it produces, and of the superior blessings of a state of peace and friendship with all mankind.” – Thomas Jefferson
“Never was so much false arithmetic employed on any subject, as that which has been employed to persuade nations that it is their interest to go to war.” – Thomas Jefferson
“There was never a good war or a bad peace.” – Benjamin Franklin
“The fiery and destructive passions of war reign in the human breast with much more powerful sway than the mild and beneficent sentiments of peace.” – Alexander Hamilton
“My first wish is to see this plague of mankind, war, banished from the earth.” – George Washington
“Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debt and taxes and armies are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people… James M

Romney is more conservative than Perry and Romney is just as conservative as or if not more conservative than the other candidates. I was reading about the Values summit yesterday and from what I saw it looks like Romney won‘t get the GOP nomination because he is a Mormon not because his political beliefs aren’t conservative.

I like Cain but he won’t win the general because of his 999 national sales tax and income tax. There is no way that he will be able to sell that to Reagan Democrats and Independents. I am a life long Republican and I can’t buy into it,especially when presidents like Ronald Reagan were able to turn our economy around without drastically altering our tax code.

I guess, I better prepare my financial future for 4 more years of Obama.

No. Its to difficult to really know all of the issues Cain has had over the years because we have not ran a microscope over his life. Romney has changed his mind on some issues. Guess what? So have I, and so have most mature individuals. Politics isn’t as black and white on every single issue. He has always been conservative on economic issues. He has always been for lowers taxes.

Hmm. Have you ever bee in the military? How about since 2000?
It will take decades to recover from what Bush and his cronies did to the Army. Switching everything to shady contractors, stop gap, poor planning, and overall damage of moral will take a long time to repair.

I’m not saying things are spectacularly better right now; but they aren’t getting worse. Deployments getting shortened to Marine length soon is a good start.

The defense budget needs drastic straightening out and trimming. Do the Air Force and Navy need shiny new toys in the middle of a 10 year ground war, no. Should we switch back to having troops do the jobs that contractors charge us millions for, yes.
