Mitt Romney Sweeps All Five Primaries Tonight

WASHINGTON (AP/The Blaze) — Mitt Romney laid claim to the fiercely contested Republican presidential nomination Tuesday night with a fistful of primary triumphs, then urged all who struggle in a shaky U.S. economy to “hold on a little longer, a better America begins tonight.”
You can read the full text of Romney’s remarks here.
And the highlight of the speech, where he previews his general election strategy, here:
Eager to turn the political page to the general election, Romney accused President Barack Obama of “false promises and weak leadership.” He declared, “Everywhere I go, Americans are tired of being tired, and many of those who are fortunate enough to have a job are working harder for less.”
The former Massachusetts governor spoke as he swept primaries in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York, the first since Rick Santorum conceded the nomination.
“Mitt Romney is going to be the nominee, and I’m going to support the nominee,” the former Pennsylvania senator said on CNN. He added he intended to meet on Wednesday with the winner’s aides.
Romney, speaking to cheering supporters, in New Hampshire, said, “The last few years have been the best Barack Obama can do, but it’s not the best America can do.”
He delivered his remarks to a national television audience as well from the state where he won his first primary of the campaign and one of about a dozen states expected to be battlegrounds in the summer and fall campaign for the White House.
Obama campaigned during the day in two others — North Carolina and Colorado — making the case that, however slowly, the economy is growing stronger.
“Our businesses have added more than 4 million jobs over the past two years, but we all know there’s still too many Americans out there looking for work or trying to find a job that pays enough to cover the bills and make the mortgage,” the president said.
“We still have too many folks in the middle class that are searching for that security that started slipping away years before the recession hit.”
Six months before the election, opinion polls show the economy to be the top issue by far in the race. The same surveys point toward a close contest, with several suggesting a modest advantage for the incumbent.
Obama won the presidency in 2008 in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression, and since then economic growth has rebounded slowly and joblessness has receded gradually, although housing prices continue to drop in many areas of the country.
In an indication that Romney was treating the moment Tuesday night as something of an opening of the general election campaign, his speech seemed aimed at the millions of voters — non-conservatives and others — who have yet to pay close attention to the race for the White House.
He blended biographical details, an attack on Obama and the promise of a better future, leaving behind his struggle to reassure conservative voters who have been reluctant to swing behind his candidacy.
“As I look around at the millions of Americans without work, the graduates who can’t get a job, the soldiers who return home to an unemployment line, it breaks my heart,” he said. “This does not have to be. It is the result of failed leadership and of a faulty vision.”
Obama, unchallenged for the Democratic nomination, has a head start in organizing, fundraising and other elements of the campaign.
Already, he and aides are working to depict Romney and Republicans as pursuing new tax breaks for the wealthy while seeking to cut programs that benefit millions of victims of the recession as well as other lower-income Americans.
The president campaigned on two college campuses during the day, pitching his proposal to prevent a scheduled increase in the interest rate on new student loans.
Romney, freed of serious primary competition, announced his own general support for the proposal, even though it appears a GOP-drafted budget in the House envisioned no effort to change the pending increase.
Determined to make up for lost time, Romney has recently accelerated his fundraising, announced the beginning of a process to search for a vice presidential running mate and begun reaping endorsements from party officials who declined to do so in the heat of the primary campaign.
Santorum offered no endorsement in a televised appearance during the evening but said he expected to meet with Romney in the future, adding he would sit down with the former governor’s aides on Wednesday.
In his remarks, Romney spoke dismissively of Obama’s tenure in office.
“Government is at the center of his vision. It dispenses the benefits, borrows what it cannot take and consumes a greater and greater share of the economy,” he said.
He added that if the president’s hard-won health care law is fully installed, “government will continue to control half the economy, and we will have effectively ceased to be a free enterprise society.”
By contrast, he said, “I see an America with a growing middle class, with rising standards of living. I see children even more successful than their parents…”
Romney was eager to leave the nominating campaign behind.
“After 43 primaries and caucuses, many long days and not a few long nights, I can say with confidence — and gratitude — that you have given me a great honor and solemn responsibility,” he said.
Romney posed a series of rhetorical questions designed to lead voters to his side.
“Is it easier to make ends meet? Is it earlier to sell your home or buy a new one? Have you saved what you needed for retirement?” he asked.
“Are you making more in your job? Do you have a better chance to get a better job? Do you pay less at the pump?”
At each question, his partisan audience shouted, “No.”
The nominating campaign that still had some loose ends, including the pursuit of national convention delegates.
Romney is still hundreds of delegates shy of a nominating majority, although he is far ahead of his most persistent rivals. There were 209 at stake in Tuesday’s primaries, and he won at least 52, with his haul expected to grow significantly.
That left him with 750 delegates of the 1,144 needed for the nomination, compared with 260 for Santorum, 137 for Newt Gingrich and 75 for Ron Paul.
Santorum suspended his campaign two weeks ago rather than risk losing a primary in his home state of Pennsylvania.
Gingrich, too, seemed to be heading toward the sidelines, although he said he intends to complete his plans for several days of campaigning in North Carolina.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 11:41pmRomney doesn’t have the delegates yet, even though the corrupt MSM wants you to go ahead and accept the “presumptive nominee” narrative.
For the ones who don’t understand the process, it’s the DELEGATES that count, not the MSM straw poll dog and pony show.
Paul just swept 15 of the 17 members of the nominating committee in Iowa, and the majority of the delegates in Minnesota, Colorado, Nevada, and a few other states.
The delegate counts they show you on the teevee are not even close to the actual numbers.,
This doesn’t even factor in the possible stealth Paul delegates that are moving toward Tampa.
It should get interesting.
If the National RNC delegates don’t wake up in time and nominate Paul, then Romrhoid is going to lose come November.
Not because Paul supporters will sit out, but because there is no excitement Romrhoid.
Paul draws sold out, overflowing crowds of 2 to 8000+ people EVERYWHERE he goes.
Romrhoid can’t even draw a few hundred.

BTW, Paul just BEAT Romrhoid in a Rasmussen head to head poll against Ohmamma. Sure it was only by one point, but that’s not the point.

The most recovering Democrat support.

“Romney is a Capitalist, obama is a marxist/socialist/communist. Next question.”
Romney isn’t a free market guy, he’s a Corporatist.
The man thinks a VAT might be a good idea, and he wants there to be automatic Minimum Wage hikes to keep up with inflation.
Romney is clueless. VATs are hidden taxes that Socialist countries use. The Minimum Wage causes unemployment by pricing out the less skilled workers. And inflation (for the purpose of keeping prices from falling) is CAUSED by increasing the money supply, which can only be done with a fiat currency.
A lot of what government does is unconstitutional. You don’t need a Minimum Wage to keep up with inflation because price deflation is a GOOD thing, if it happens in a precious metal currency standard. And inflation is the reason why we have booms and busts, including the recent housing crash.
Romney believes government is the solution. He will be a disaster if he wins the election, and he will seem to discredit the free market when his policies make the coming crash worse.

What you are not realizing, the straw polls do not matter. Does not matter who wins the election night results, it is delegates at the convention that matters in this. I am having serious doubts, that Romney can get 1144 hard delegates. That is what it takes to have the nomination wrapped up. A couple states gave up half of their “hard” delegates in order to move the primary up. Why did they do this? The GOP thought that Romney would be able to wrap it up by winning. They did not count on Ron Paul. Didn’t you notice, after it was apparant that Paul was a factor in iowa, the media pretty much blacked him out so the masses would just follow the medias voice. The real problem is you guys, who get opportunities to see the things the media hides, yet you do not click on the link, or once you see it is pro-Paul, you end it. Blindness. “What you are not realizing, the straw polls do not matter. Does not matter who wins the election night results, it is delegates at the convention that matters in this.”
True. We are not a democracy but a Constitutional Republic. We do not vote for the President, the delegates do.
And we should not want it any other way. A democracy, as our Founders noted, would favor the biggest faction. By having delegates from different districts vote, it’s more difficult for one faction to gain a majority influence.
See here.
Federalist Papers #10
http://www.constitution.org/fed/federa10.htm
“From this view of the subject it may be concluded that a pure democracy, by which I mean a society consisting of a small number of citizens, who assemble and administer the government in person, can admit of no cure for the mischiefs of faction. A common passion or interest will, in almost every case, be felt by a majority of the whole; a communication and concert result from the form of government itself; and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party or an obnoxious individual. Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”

Posted on April 25, 2012 at 11:43amJJ, your argument that our founding fathers did not have automatic weapons, and thus we shouldn’t, is false. Here is why, the Americans used military grade hardware of their time, in fact, some of their rifles were better than the British ones because of the rifling, they made them more accurate. The 2nd Amendmant is there as the answer when the ballot box no longer works, and the government does not listen to the people any longer. Any other lawful activity you would have the weapon for, such as trap shooting and hunting, have nothing to do with it. As for the assault weapons ban, it wasn’t automatic weapons, it was semi-auto assault type rifles, ones that any free citizen should have every right to own. Nice attempt at deflecting, but automatic weapons are considered military/leo police grade weapons, something we haven’t been able to own for some time now. The Assault weapons ban was on weapons we could already own, such as the SKS or AR15. There is no good reason for the ban on automatic weapons, if a criminal really wants them, they will get em easily. It merely tips the scales against the lawful gun owner who would only use a firearm in the manner it should be used for.

Show me another person that wants these things and i’ll be happy to vote for them. BO, Mittens, they all want to continue the same governmental ways of raping, lying, murdering, stealing..it’s what government does. If you think Mitt is any different then he’s done his job in fooling you. Be careful with the “anybody but BO ” attitude. People said the same thing about Bush and it gave us BO.

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 12:23amIf Ron Paul is not the nominee I might just vote for Obama, not because I agree with him, in fact, I despise him. But like Glenn said in his original show, a frog slowly boiled won’t jump out. With Obama things will happen faster and will be more shocking. With Romney, Obama/Bush’s socialist corporatist policies will still happen but more slowly and more palatable to the ignorant masses. Just like Bush’s TSA, Homeland Security and Patriot act were unquestioned, Romney’s acts to dismantle freedom will go unanswered.
There really is no difference between Romney and Obama. The only difference is the pace. Both Value the police state over freedom. Both like taxes. The difference in spending is only on what they want to waste tax payer money on. Even then it is negligible. Both are for Bailouts. Both are for Social engineering through government. Romney is the architect of Obamacare. Both are for Subsidies. Both are two faced liars. Any difference between them is superficial. They are both undeniable STATIST.

“If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.” -Ronald Reagan

I was against Gingrich and Santorum also. Those guys are all garbage. Hannity, Beck, and Limbaugh are behind Romney now. Oreilly has always been a idiot. They all supported guys that were no different from Romney so what is the point, voting for one wrong guy or another wrong guy is still voting for the wrong guy.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 9:28pmI am still voting for Ron. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils anymore. The GOP and America deserve four more with Obama. If its really ABO then you better vote for Ron Paul. His supporters are going to write his name in if we have too.
So you can get ABO(Paul) or keep voting for a bad candidate in Romney and allow Obama to crush him in November.

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 9:39pmMutiny, your viewpoint is a lesser of 2 eviils. Let me explain. You claim to be against Obama, but only if YOUR guy won the nomination. That’s not the way our system works. Your distorted approach to voting is as corrupted as anything Obama has done, but without the power of the Presidency behind it, thereby making you the lesser of the 2 evils.

Personally, I find it pretty refreshing to know someone can continue to grow and learn and transform their ideals. Mitt Romney has done such when learning more about embyonic stem cell research in the early 2000s. But either you chose to ignore that or you chose to chalk it up as waffling.
Mitt ran for governor of Massachusetts —PRIOR to winning— as a PRO-LIFER.

“Monk you are trying to say that if people dont vote for Mitt they are electing Obama.”
Absolutely. It’s now Mitt or Mutt. Only two choices now. The only question that you need to ask yourself is this, “Do I want another 4 years of Mutt and the possibility of a dictator for a 3rd term or for life or anyone BUT Mutt eater Obama”? Mitt or Mutt? RP and Gringrich are out of the race now.

I’m not counting on anything but worse! You saw how Massachusetts was handled! Tax and spend, tax and spend, tax and spend! Nothing changes!
None of them are worth anything, nor do they have the guts to do what is right in changing the system, then it will be more of the same! No guts, no glory! End of story!
Until we do what takes guts to do in the economic overhaul, nothing will change for many years to come! We just go farther into debt as time goes while they print more money and throw it away (even at other countries that hate us)! It’s all a ploy America! Wake up!
The truth will set you free!

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 9:29pmThat is extremely disrespectful to diss someones religious belief. The garments Mormons wear are sacred and should not be mocked. Many religions have sacred articles of clothing or jewelry. Have some respect for those that have chosen to follow their religion and actually practice what is preached.
