‘Mom, Dad, I‘m a Democrat’: The Worst Attempt at Outreach to Republicans You’ll See This Week

Democrats know all too well that making inroads in traditionally conservative states can be hard. And indeed, trying to appeal to the constituents in those states has led to a number of experimental campaign methods designed to reach those voters. Sometimes those ideas work. Other times, they don’t.

And sometimes they’re cringe-inducingly awful. Like this new video, released by the campaign of Utah House candidate Ryan Combe, which manages to simultaneously come off as defensive and sanctimonious while making the younger generation look unfathomably naive in the process:

Where do we even start? How about with this comment on Gawker, which first dug up the story:

House Candidate in Utah Releases Ad Depicting Young Man Coming Out To His Parents as a DemocratThis poor soul doesn’t even have the luxury of laughing at the ad, which will probably drive thousands of parents of college-aged children into the GOP. After all, the young man in the video sounds exactly like so many other young people who come home after having taken an American Studies class in college, and get into a huge shouting match at the Thanksgiving Table. But since we’re gluttons for punishment, let‘s try revising this ad so it’s more honest. The following sentences in bold are actual claims about what the Democratic party believes that the ad makes. Our revisions follow.

“I just want to help those less fortunate than I am.”

…by making it illegal to feed the homeless.

“I don’t want my student loan rates to go up…”

Which is why I support a party that turns down deals to stop precisely that.

“…but not at the expense of women and children’s preventative health care.”

…especially not “preventative health care” that stops women from having children in the first place.

“We should tax the oil companies to better fund education.”

…even though gas prices have only just started falling, and higher education has become an unsustainable bubble.

“I believe that men and women in this country deserve equal rights, and equal opportunity under the law.”

House Candidate in Utah Releases Ad Depicting Young Man Coming Out To His Parents as a Democrat

House Candidate in Utah Releases Ad Depicting Young Man Coming Out To His Parents as a Democrat

Sorry, you were saying?

“I don’t believe that if someone loses their job or gets sick that they should go bankrupt and lose their homes.”

…which is why I support legislation that makes people lose their jobs, and their healthcare, while propping up institutions like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“And I believe in good, affordable healthcare for everyone.”

…which is why I support legislation that has been demonstrated to drive up the cost of healthcare.

“Why aren’t you a Democrat? It might not be as bad as you think.”

If these arguments are any guide, it totally is.

This ad reminds us extremely strongly of the “Why I am a Democrat” ad put out by the College Democrats of America a few years back:

You may notice a singular absence in both videos, by the way. Nowhere in either video do the words “freedom,“ ”liberty“ or ”justice” appear.

It is amazing to me that in the actual I am a Democrat commercial, one of the kids says that the democrat party is the party of civil rights. Man our educational system really sucks, the dems have completely turned history around to where they are supposedly the party of civil rights. Just wish half of these brain dead touchy feely morons had actually seen what really went on in the 50‘s and 60’s instead of just taking the word of their hippy liberal teachers. You can‘t run a country on freaking feelings people there is a real world out there and it doesn’t give a damn how you feel about something.

I am tired of people calling us right wing. What does right wing mean? We are not right wing but conservative which means we like small and non-intrusive government while the other party likes big government oppression. The next time one of these perverts in the so called mainstream media use the word right wing I want someone to ask them to define that word so we know what they mean when they use it. Lets start calling the democrats the “Oppressive Government Party”.

You have smart Dems. and dumb Dems. Dumb Dems will vote for the town drunk running against a smart intelligent Republican. Smart Dems will vote for who most will run city, county, state or the USA for your benefit. I’m a Dem and fell for Hope & Change. So did my wife, 3 sons and 3 daughter in-laws. We are are all registered Deomocrats. We don’t like the change and have given up on Hope. We all have been affected by change are know someone that has. This makes me think back to the first time I voted – Jimmy Carter. I rented and owned the car I had thank goodness.I registered Democrat because that was what my Teachers told me to do. After 4 years of Carter the interest rates for a new car was 21% and 17% for a home and I had just got married. My wife a Democrat and myself were so afraid Carter was going to get re-elected. All the UAW union was preaching was how good he was. Half of Detroit was laid off – half the country was laid off. Thank goodness all those UInion members voted Republican when they got in the voteing booth. If not we would be using Russian Rupels now.

Careful, Thomas, the definition of conservative is being twisted and changed right before our very eyes. After all, at many state conventions across the country, the “Conservative Unity Slate” for national delegates was the Romney slate. Need I say more? RINO and progressive Republicans are hijacking the word conservative to just mean same ol‘ same ol’ big government, just run by the Republicans instead of the Democrats. That is how Republican became a dirty word and soon conservative will become a dirty word as well. Maybe it already has become that after the sorry displays by Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum throughout the Republican primary. These supposed “conservatives” were both exposed (mostly by Ron Paul) as big government hacks with records to prove it.

Conservative should mean we conserve the Constitution. Last I checked, Romney is okay with undeclared wars, NDAA, the Patriot Act, CISPA, the Federal Reserve. All of these shred the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. How again is Romney a conservative?

Liberty is the new buzz word for me. Of course, once the establishment catches on to that, they’ll somehow find a way to hijack that word, too.

Did you actually read what Florida said??? Or are you the typical Liberal/Progressive person that is incapable of understanding? Read it again. What do the following words from Florida123 have to do with a Dem you know who owns a business, is an Obama supporter, has children, and goes to church? How do you connect those dots?

“This becomes an issue if mommy and daddy are still footing all the bills for the kid…….As soon as the kid has to start footing his own bills and paying taxes to uncle barack, the D on his voters card will disappear!”

This is what’s wrong with the world! Nobody tries to understand (nor really listen) to the other side of the argument. I’m willing to at least listen to the Dems/Liberals/Progressive/Commie/Marxist folks. Try to convince me that I’m wrong. And then I want the same respect…listen to my beliefs.

Florida‘s point is that once you’re in the world paying your own high bills and taxes (support for parasites) and have a real job/business…things looks a whole lot different. To my notion there are 3 types of “the Left”: lazy parasites who draw a govt check; rich folks who don’t have a clue about the real world; and College/University professors who’ve never held a job, ie, nor lived in the real world.

Both Waco and Ruby Ridge are now known to have been PATCON-inspired, Department of Justice plots.

Shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing, Holder instructed FBI agents to recover from Terry Nichols any remainder of the explosives the Bureau had provided him and McVeigh. To the chagrin of Eric Holder, the explosives were later discovered by another agency, complete with the fingerprints of Nichols, McVeigh, and two FBI agents. Holder had reportedly offered Nichols respite from the death penalty for his cooperation in recovering the explosives. Obviously, the Deputy Attorney General considered covering up his criminal complicity in the bombing a good deed eminently worth sparing Nichols his just punishment for the murders of 168 innocent Americans.

Jesse Trentadue accidentally came across PATCON while investigating the murder of his brother Kenneth at the hands of the Clinton Department of Justice. An FBI informant familiar with the Oklahoma City bombing story, Kenneth was found hanged in his cell after having been jailed by the FBI. Though an official FBI report had listed Kenneth as a suicide, it was obvious that he had been severely beaten and had his throat cut.

Upon Jesse taking the federal government to court, a federal judge ruled that the FBI had not only lied about Kenneth Trentadue’s death, the Bureau was also found guilty of having destroyed evidence concerning the case. In 2001 the Trentadue family was awarded $1.1 million, $250,000 of which remain

It constantly amazes me that “Democrats” have forgotten that Democrats fought a WAR to STOP blacks from having Civil Rights.

Liberals are engaged in a WAR on Conservatism, and one of their main tools is to look in a mirror, and blame conservatives for what they see. War on women? If these “women” want to commit murder by stopping a beating heart, let THEM pay for it. I have to have certain meds for which I have to pay, because my healthcare does not cover them. I believe that contraception is responsible, but others believe that God has a reason for EVERY child. They should NOT be forced to pay for it. It is a matter of priority. If they have to pay for contraception, they won’t be able to go out or buy that sexy dress, that got them that way in the first place.

Just about every argument that is put out by liberals means MORE ENSLAVEMENT for us ALL.

Notice when a full blood black runs for office they are bought off (Jessies Jackson) or in Herman Cains case tarred and feathered and run out on a rail. All you do is have a few like, Jessies Jackson,The Rev. al Sharpton and Van Jones lead them around by the nose. Notice that the Alcida Leadership is to important to blow them selves up so they talk a dumb kid into doing it. the best thing you, your wife, and your kids can do for America, is stay the heck away from the voting booth. If you fell for hope and change, then you basically declared your self to be either stupid, or a fool. What did you actually fall for?

If you did not realize that you were voting for a junior, no experience senator, who voted “present”, had a back ground of community organizing, had ties to know terrorists, sat in the congregation of an anti semetic black liberation theology church, had ties to communists and socialist, was raised in muslim schools, then you inserted your head so far up your own butt, that it will never come out.

Let’s examine some of these “reasons” for being a Democrat, shall we?

“I just want to help those less fortunate than I am.”

“When you give to the poor, don’t trumpet this before others like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets so that they will be praised by people. I tell you the truth: they have already gotten their reward.” –Christ, Matthew 6:2

“We should tax the oil companies to better fund education.”

Because, you know, like, “education” is soooo underfunded.

“I don’t believe that if someone loses their job or gets sick that they should go bankrupt and lose their homes.”

Well, if they were smart and SAVED money (What a novel concept!) during the good times, they won’t.

“And I believe in good, affordable healthcare for everyone.”

The only way to achieve that is a free market.

Eventually my brain disease will be cured and I will realize that the only true thing that a Marxist does is lie. Then I will hope and pray that I haven’t aided the destruction of my country to much when I was young and dumb and a Democrat.
However, if I don’t recover from my brain disease, then I will vote for our Democrat (Marxist) Presidential Candidate. Later, when I am standing in front of the ditch, and the machine gun begins firing I will then become cured (briefly) of being a Democrat!

This is the reason why you should be very careful on what schools you choose to send your kids. These kids have been brainwashed to believe in an ideaology that cannot be sustain itself. I find it interesting that they always attack big oil. Do they ever attack wealthy Democrats that more money than they could ever spend in a lifetime? Do they attack schools like Harvard that have enough money in the bank to pay for all of their students education for the next 50 years? Do they attack the wealthy actors and actresses that gouge them every time they go to the theaters? Do they attack Democrats that attack churches that are actively involved in the feeding the poor?
No, they do not because they are stupid. They only know the ******** that fed to them by their liberal communist teachers.
Wake up people. Send the public school system a message by pulling your kids out and either send them to a private school or home school them. You will never fix the system if you don’t hit them where it hurts and that is their pocket book. Every time your child steps through the public school doors, you’re giving them your hard earned taxpayer dollars.
All of you need to start putting your money where your mouth is and stand up to the schools that indoctrinate your kids like these have been.

I didn’t trust any school to do it correctly so I did it myself. My children don’t believe everything that I believe exactly as I believe it, but I guarantee you they understand our history and how we got to this point. Allowing a government school to be the only source of historical information for your children is as irresponsible as allowing the government to be your source of income.

Sure we love our kids, but we have to draw the line somewhere. Most are raised Dems, then teachers indoctrinate them (unions) and the stupid little fools think they know it all, wanting everything for free while giving up their personal freedom to lick at the boots of socialists.

I finally (duh?) began to notice what the parties stood for and decided I was not a liar, a cheat, a welfare recipient, wanting more for free rather than working for my bread as the bible tells us.
The more I saw the likes of Carter and 21% loan rates and the mad rabbit chasing him, I realized I was no more a Democrat than I was the man in the moon.
Took a while to put it all together, but with what I’ve seen in the last 4 years, I would give my very life for Freedom in America before I’d fall for the bull of waiting for the government to take care of me, to put me in a virtual intern camp. It still might happen if we allow the same people to run our Country for another 4.
They want to control our lives, I want to control my own life, Give me Freedom or…………….

They all look inbred and cross eyed. My Nephew in California started spewing this garbage over facebook, he is now cut off. He said that Obama is a good man who has his best interests at heart. I guess his family doesn’t have his best interests at heart, the jackass in the white house does. I just irritated me to hear such nonsense. College is a breeding ground for idiocy.

and thanks to college graduates making illegal and discriminatory hiring practices that completely eliminate the ability of a person without some degree to even apply for a job, it will continue to get worse. There is no need or reason why you should have a college degree to do 99.99% of all jobs on this planet. About the only exception is being a college professor and even then, the original professors at universities were not graduates but real innovators and doers.

I know you’re right, but never forget for a moment, when the crap backs up, they call a plumber. When they need the air conditioner to work in 100 degree heat, they call the HVAC.
When electricity goes off, they call an electrician.
When the roof leaks, they call a roofer.
When the car quits running, it’s an auto mechanic.
I’d like to see any of those fools with a uni. degree fix any of the things that need ‘fixin’
College isn’t for everyone, but I’d highly recommend a trade. There are always jobs, while the number of non-working college kids are still out there looking for nonexistent jobs or flipping burgers. Wow! Think about it in a down market. You could mow lawns!

It all started with the institution of the Federal Department of Education and the unionization of “professional” teachers. I was an EAGLE SCOUT and a Republican for 42 years now, even though my parents are both Democrats. I just love the sparks at home comings. To repeat again: Many early churches were purged one way or another. I’m not nor will ever be Mormon, but I do read, know many of them and all the weird things many churches started out with have been modified over the years. They no longer practice old beliefs.
If you’re just looking for multiple marriages, it still happens in other countries, as far as messing with children, didn’t we just convict a college coach for messing with little boys?
And, I’m quite sure he was not Mormon.

Heck, read history and see our really early Christians who went though and killed everyone in sight, including their own (christians) so they wouldn’t miss anyone who might slip through their radar. This was the CHRISTIAN crusades. Gotta love those guys common sense.

When the progressives got started a hundred years ago they didn’t put the person who had their final goal in mind forward. Why? Because they would have lost again and again. Now that they’re showing their true colors we need to reverse course and undo the damage little by little. Meanwhile, we make sure that these communists don’t camouflage themselves like they have before.

One more reason to be a Socialist. In our system, you viable political options are “pro-capitalist party A“ and ”pro-capitalist party B”–NO ONE in either party is challenging the structure and legitimacy of capitalism itself, so take your pick ********.

Yeah, the Democrats are awful–but the OTHER option are the Republicans. Given the choice between doing ineffectual things, and doing ACTIVELY negative things, I’ll take the former over the latter. Thanks, single-member plurality vote districting–thanks for giving us a one-and-a-half party system where we get the freedom of choosing between incompetency and idiocy.

      Perhaps.

      But nothing is that simple.

If you really think socialistic options (albeit they have euphemistic disguises) are not represented by one of the two national parties then you aren’t paying attention.

But, to a certain extent, I agree. The Democrats should just come out and express their dislike of capitalism and embrace socialism instead of coyly altering their rhetoric to appease the masses; whom the left knows will reject their hidden intentions if they aren’t hidden.
