Mom Beats Little League Coach With Baseball Bat Over Molestation Suspicions

Memphis Mom Lakeshia Richmond Faces Assault Charges After Attacking Little League Coach

A Memphis-area mother is facing aggravated assault charges after attacking her sons’ little league football coach with a baseball bat.  According to the no-nonsense mother, the coach had molested her sons and, upon seeing him, she simply couldn’t control herself.

The New York Daily News relates:

“I didn’t intend to do whatever I did to him,” said [Lakeshia Richmond]. “I apologize, but I don’t apologize for what happened to my kids.”

She claimed one of her sons told her Saturday that [Tony Massey] touched him inappropriately. “I said, ‘was it just you?’ and he said ‘no, it was some more kids,’” she told WREG.

Later Saturday, she saw Massey walking alone and grabbed the bat from the trunk of her car.

“When I see him, I see my kids being hurt and that’s all I see,” Richmond said.

Cops found Massey “shirtless and bleeding from the head and face,” according to WMC-TV, and later arrested Richmond on charges of aggravated assault.

Massey has not been arrested but police are reportedly investigating the abuse allegations. He remains in the hospital in serious condition.

“I did what I had to do; I put it in God’s hands,” she remarked.

The local ABC24 reporter noted that, before putting it in God’s hands, she did seem to take matters into her own.

The local district attorney said that while she understands the need to protect one’s children, “when someone is acting out and committing a crime for the sake of their children, or in defense of their children, you’re just causing more problems…It’s not a situation where any good is going to come from you trying to take the law into your own hands.”

Richmond noted that she did call police, saying: “I was hoping the police made it to him before I did…He was saying he didn’t do it and he was sorry. If you didn‘t do it why are you saying you’re sorry? What are you sorry for?”

She added: “If the law would’ve made it there before I did… [it] probably wouldn’t have happened.”

      I agree,lets just do away with the justice system altogether.I also think we should bring back lynching that way we save money on trials and jails.I saw pictures of justice and she had on a blindfold so what can she see?I remember a story of two guys tying another to the back of a pickup for a ride,Iguess they had their reasons.

      If he is guilty, he got what he deserved, if not, she should go to jail. There is nothing lower on this planet than a pedophile and I would never defend one, but, we need to make sure he is one before punishing him. No offense, but kids lie, I think she was way out of bounds with her reaction. Maybe just a kid that has been taught by society that if an adult touches your shoulder or gives you a pat on the back, they are trying to rape you. How about letting the facts be revealed?       There are volumes of accusations of molestations by children. Some are true, some are not. Wives use molestation to get custody. There are countless men that have lost everything they own defending themselves for false accusations. It’s a guilty until proven innocent situation. If he did it I hope he goes to prison for a long time but “what if it is a lie.” Who is going to put his life back together? Restore his character and dignity? For her sake she had better hope it’s true but if it is not she will be serving time and may anyway. It was not an eyewitness event.

      Are you certain the kid told the truth? I was molested, and so was my little brother. But you should wait until the investigation is over before destroying this coach’s life. What if the kid was just angry at the coach for some reason? And, yet, maybe it’s all true. We don’t know! The mother should not have taken a baseball bat to this man. Now she’ll be in trouble, too. The father who killed a man when he found his daughter being raped…as the father actually witnessed (came upon) the rape. He heard his daughter scream. I don’t blame that father for beating the raper…but the raper was killed in the process…which could have gotten him in prison for murder…in other states. You don’t do your family any good by going to jail yourself. Let the law handle it.

      I will say she is a good mother, but I really do hope she found out if it was the truth before she beat this guy, what happens when she finds out her kid is upset because he didnt get picked for the postion he wanted and made the whole thing up.

      Now if the coach did do what he is accused of I hope I get to be on the mothers jury because she is not guilty and yes we do need more street justice and we should start with the judges that let these people off or out of jail.

      It wasn’t SOMEBODY who accused him. It was her SON who said the coach touched him and that he touched other boys. She wasn’t just stopping a criminal, she was PROTECTING HER SON!!!! A highly emotional situation and response. Right or wrong, she is one great mother who isn’t going to wait for the system to pat this guy on the butt and tell him that he is a poor maladjusted person who just needs some help.

      As Americans we need to stop making people guilty before we know all of the information.

      As a teacher who was falsely accused of hurting a child, because the child knew the parent would give her power (she had done this to several teachers), being falsely accused of abuse of child is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Having a child of my own now, I know how wild children‘s imaginations can be and how they can easily be swayed to think or say something that isn’t true to get the approval of a person.

    It”s not like she caught him or walked in it happening, so, though I sympathize with her and especially the children this is a land of laws. Two wrongs do not make a right. She should be prosecuted for assault with a deadly weapon and the coach should be investigated and if with grounds charged and prosecuted also.

      I don’t think she is a hero. He is in the hospital in serious condition. What if he dies. She will be quilty of murder. She should have waited for the police and filed a complaint then let a jury decide. We are a country of laws! I’m glad her child talked to her. That is important. We should encourage our children to talk to us when they feel something inappropriate has happened. But, the accused is presumed innocent till found guilty, otherwise you end up in jail and the child loses a parent.

      The “hero” may well end up in jail and her kids with some one else because she couldn’t control her anger. There is a lot of information missing, and before arrests are made, they talk to the kids, and figure out what is going on. She had every right to be beyond angry, but she had no right to act on it, or is that how we want our country run? Let’s just all take the law into our own hands and beat or shoot anyone we suspect of doing anything wrong, including your neighbors who don’t like what you are doing. This whole thing is a mess, now a bigger one for her.This is not the wild west. We are a nation of law, even when we disagree.       Christos, by your posts, I would guess that you were a victim of rape or other abuse, and I am sorry for that. Any monster that rapes/abuses/molests a child should in my humble opinion be executed immediately upon conviction. That being said, you are wrong on a couple of points, first kids DO lie. Second, regardless of the facts (which are a LONG way from being fully presented), she had NO right to take justice into her own hands—that is what they do in Muslim crap holes. In the U.S. we have a civilized justice system (not perfect to be sure, but it IS the best the world has ever known) which protects the innocent from false allegations. If this coach is innocent (I’m sure you will concede that he COULD be, no?), then what would you offer? oops I sorry? NO, that is not going to work. The only time God condones a person to kill another human is in selfdefense of ones own life or another’s from murderous intent. Anyone involved in capital punishment, from passing the law to the act of the punishment itself is guilty of murder and will be held accountable to the Lord as such unless they understand their own transgression and earnestly repent.

      So to validate your point about the death penalty you resort to baseless accusations and ridicule. I’m against the death penalty because it is against the will of God.       To PAXINVERITATE – I understand how you are interpreting the Thou shalt not kill,,,you added unless your protecting,now if by 100% evidence without a doubt a pedophile is convicted,you believe in just letting them go free after their sentence,the recidivism is almost 100% they re offend we are not talking about a light crime these kids grow up unable to form relationships,nightmares,mental illness,insecure,fail on every level of a normal life,they turn to alcohol,drugs,they are many times promiscuous,they commit suicide,in other words they are ruined,how do you fix that answer – no one can fix that,preventing anymore children getting sexually abused is about prevention,If these pedophiles where locked up for life I would be ok with that,but what would be the purpose to keep them?       Your logic makes no sense. In fact, even when courts try someone, they are taking justice out of God’s hands. Get a clue and start learning what Scripture actually means instead of selectively quoting it out of context.

      With that said, I do not believe that what she did was right. I really believe that a proper investigation should be done and the man, if indeed guilty, should be punished under the law.

      RPP: you’re the one misunderstanding the Bible and the concept of Law and Order. The Law does not involve vengeance, it is about Order and keeping it. It provides a way for victims and members of society to find justice and mitigate some of the effects of lawlessness. When a pedophile or murderer or thief is convicted by Law (and this includes capital punishment), that is not vengeance. Vengeance is what she did. It’s “getting back” at someone for a perceived (or actual) affront. The Bible preaches against vengeance specifically because of things like this. Vengeance is unthinking retaliation and innocent people are most often the ones hurt by it. God in the Bible commands that Law and Order be kept by the people through his guidance, so it is not taking it out of God’s hands, since Law and Order work through God by his command. Vengeance is ungodly behavior because he expressly forbids it.

      Dude, read it sometime.. (the Bible). Romans clearly places authority for the punishment of evildoers in the hands of the government. Vengeance isn’t the same as justice, and God gave civil government the authority to issue justice for crimes committed. So, according to the BIBLE, courts do not take it out of God’s hands, He placed it in their laps. BIG difference.

      That said, our American ‘justice’ system is failing our children when it comes to pedophiles and rapists. They should receive much harsher sentences even up to the death penalty. Pedophiles and sexual assailants get worse with each crime they commit, and by not locking them away forever, we create more victims.

      Well, lets just say if the coach lies about it, (and he will if he did do it, anyway,) that he will not do it again that which he says he did not do, not to that one, anyway. It is not likely the kid would make that up unless the mother put him up to saying that to get even with that coach for some reason. Believe me that will not be the only kid he did that to and others will step forward if the man is a perv.

If it is revealed this kid is a liar or there is a mistake, or this mom is a nut, what then, an innocent man punished without a trial is not justice.

      The legal system just doesn’t work when it comes to pedophilia. Bogus charges by vengeful ex-spouses all seem to stick, ruining the lives of the innocent parent and the children, while actual pedophiles just get a slap on the wrist and are released to continue their depravity on more innocents. I’m all for the parental justice in cases like this. Batter up.

    I can understand her feelings, and if I was in a similar position I might do the same… but this is the reason we have a legal system. The victim (or the victim’s family) does not choose or enact the punishment; the law does.

    It’s a shame that these boys may very well lose their mother as well as having been abused.
