Mother Tries to Sell Newborn Infant at Taco Bell

How desperate and twisted must someone be to try to sell their three-day old infant… at a Taco Bell? Well, according to a local KOIN news report, one Washington State woman attempted to do just that before being arrested. The mother who attempted to pawn her three-day old infant off to a random woman at a roadside Taco Bell in Vancouver for between $500 and $5000 appeared before a Clark County judge Monday.

Heidi Lynn Gasaway, 35, also goes by her maiden name, Heidi Lynn Knowles. Her father, John Knowles, said in a telephone interview Monday he had no idea his daughter was considering selling her child. A close friend who came to Gasaway’s first arraignment said she believed Gasaway may have been suffering from symptoms of postpartum depression and that she had tried to find a homeless shelter. Both described a desperate woman who was turned away from homeless shelter. A much different portrait than the woman described in court documents as intoxicated when police arrested her for allegedly trying to sell her baby to a woman at Taco Bell.

Apparently the woman Gasaway reportedly tried to sell her baby to refused the outrageous offer and promptly called 911 to report the crime. Police allegedly then caught up with the would-be baby peddler at Kay’s Motel, the place where Gasaway had been staying.

Motel owners Patty and Oliver Morris reportedly said that at first glance, Gasaway’s baby appeared well cared for:

“When I went into her room the baby was clean it was obviously fed because it wasn’t crying it was usually napping like new babies do,” said [Patty] Morris. “It was always centered in the middle of the bed she seemed to be doing a good job.”

In another report, Oliver Morris alleged Gasaway was trying to sell the baby so she could “skip town” and “start a new life.” But, he conceded, “at least the baby’s alive”and has been taken into foster care. He imagined the child’s fate could have been far worse if the desperate Gasaway had not been caught.

According to reports, bail has been set at $50,000 and Gasaway is charged with a Class C felony. If convicted, she will face up to five years in prison.

The baby is now apparently in state custody and other reports claim Gasaway is a recovering methamphetamine addict with five other children. Those reports haven’t revealed where the other children are currently.

    No one at the crack house was interested. The good thing is that the child will now have a chance at life. This is a good news story. It should read “Crack head moms child gets a chance at life now that moms in prison”

      it‘s not crack it’s meth. get your slurs straight. thank God you, (nor I) have had to fight this addiction. it is wicked and VERY hard to eliminate. Praise God I have never felt that feeling, and I don’t EVER want to. I hope this baby stays safe and healthy.

      I doubt this woman had any loyalty or love for anyone or anything except her alcohol and drugs. Addiction is a horrible life, and people do horrible things when they are addicted. At least she did not kill the baby.

      I praise this mom for not having an abortion.

      I know many couples that would adopt this child in a heartbeat.

      The only reason I have NEVER done drugs is I know I would be an instant addict.

      You know, the Nation is in an uproar because Casey Anthony was found not guilty of killing her child, but most of the same people are fine with letting a woman kill her baby before its born.

      She looks like that commercial on TV for drugs where the teen age daughter is portraited by a much older woman and the mother doesn’t know who she is…..drugs do terrible things to you.

      A chance at life? Now it is in the sytem. It will be given to a foster family and then when mom has attacks of guilt frequently throug hthe years the court will give it back to her till she can’t handle it anymore…then it will be given to another home…then when mom feels righteous indignation at not having her child she will take the family to court to have visitation and custody returned…and so on….

    Liberal “solutions” rarely put people on a path of recovery and normally grows the problem over time. We don’t know all the details of this story, but who would be surprised to learn this lady has been a “recovering” addict for years while pumping out wards of the state by several, absent fathers. I guess from Libs perspective, another six or more welfare dependents is an investment in expanding the dumboRat constituency . Drug testing for welfare benefits and compulsary sterilization for violators would be a step in the right direction.

    This is horrible. But some of the same people that rightfully condemn this would have had no problem if she killed that baby when it was in the womb 4 days earlier. So sad and so immoral!

      I’m really torn by this, because you’re right, she could have killed the child in the womb and the state would have protected her right to do this.

      What is wrong with her selling her child? Seriously. What is the moral harm done? How do we define what is moral crime here that justifies enshrining that crime in our actual laws?

      Let’s walk through this: She has the right to give her child away or keep her child. Right. The child is HERS. If she doesn’t want it she can give it to someone else to have. That’s a near universal historical right of a parent, as I understand. So the real problem is that she is asking for MONEY. Right? And that makes what she does wrong, why?

      If she fed her child Gerber’s baby food, we wouldn’t have any problem with that. What if Gerber paid her to feed her baby Gerber food?

      It seems to me one obvious reply is that if money is her motivation she might accept money from a company to use her baby as a test subject. So, the reasoning goes that a person who would sell her baby isn’t going to be looking for a person who would be a good parent necessarily. Thus the need for the state to outlaw such things. That makes sense to me.

      However, given how much it costs to adopt a child, costs imposed by a ridiculous state process, I am not sure that the state isn’t indirectly encouraging the kind of black market that makes such things tempting to mothers like her.

    Even if you tried to get a baby from Taco Bell, there‘s a pretty strong chance that they’d screw it up or give you the wrong one, just like everything else I order there.

    But hey, at least it’ll come with a Baja Blast

      it really doesnt look like it matters if drugs are legal or not… people will do them if they want to.. I’ve never heard anyone say “oh I’d love to do meth if only it was legal”. the only thing keeping drugs illegal does is fill up the prisons on the taxpayer dime.. And once they go to jail and get that on their backround check… then can never get a good job… so it seems keeping drugs illegal hurts more than it helps…

    She may not have wanted to be a mother but she did care for the child and it’s now going to hopefully go to a home where it is wanted. At least she did’t try and kill the child as some do. I hope both will find peace.

    When the liberals got God removed from our schools, what did they think would be coming in in His place? The further we drift from the Bible, the closer to hell we get. The youth of this country are paying the price for what the likes of Bill Ayers, The Reverends Jackson and Sharpton, and the rest of the immoral brood are doing.     I have noticed how many really awful and odd things happen in Washington state. Did no one tell her she could give the baby away to law inforcement fire station or a hospital? How sad for that child. I hope it is placed in a loving home because there are many out there waiting.

      Lived in Everett, WA for a few months. It seemed most people didn’t like children there, nor did they appreciate the traditional family. The one thing that DID stand out from other cities and states was the number of homeless people.

    Finally the Blaze is being Fair and Balanced with it’s portrayal of crazies. But still only the TIP of the iceberg. I grew up in Sacramento which is among the Meth capitals of the US and it’s destroying the white community. There are probably hundreds of “meth-cities” across the nation. So sad.

      I would say sterilizing a women who has proven her unfitness TO BE A MOTHER by her criminal behavior with a child is very different from setrilizing people because you think the children they would produce would be unfit.

      It’s the same difference between throwing criminals in jail and rounding up the Jews and putting them in camps.
