Mom With Cancer Dies After She Refuses Chemotherapy to Save Her Unborn Baby

Stacie Crimm’s story is a mixture of tragedy, selflessness and courage. The 41-year-old was overjoyed when she found out that she was finally pregnant. She was especially esctatic because she had been told that she could never have children.

But she became worried after she started getting headaches and double vision. Fox News has more:

The expectant mom sent more than 150 text messages to her brother in the months that followed, many of which detailed her severe headaches and double vision.

“I’m worried about this baby,” Crimm wrote.

“I hope I live long enough to have this baby,” read another message. “Bubba, if anything happens to me, you take this child,” the single mom wrote.

Sadly, she was diagnosed with neck cancer in July. After briefly weighing her options, Crimm made a bold decision: She planned to refuse chemotherapy to save the life of her child.

Crimm lived just long enough to deliver her 2-pound, 1 ounce daughter, Dottie Mae in August. The courageous mother was able to hold the child in her arms just one time before she passed away.

Her brother, Ray Phillips, explained just how important seeing Dottie was to his sister. “This baby was everything she had in this world,” he said.

The Huffpo readers must be scratching their heads with confusion on this one! I can hear them – “How can this happen? She should have had an abortion?” Rep. Lee said those thuds on the monitor were just sounds!

Elrond3737, Gianna Molla is a saint, in heaven, with Jesus. Therefore, if Stacie is with St. Gianna Molla, they are both by definition with Jesus, too. The reason why South Philly Boy was bringing up St. Gianna Molla was because she, too, refused treatment for her cancer, so that her baby could survive until birth. She went above & beyond what the Church would have required in that situation, and that’s why she was recognized as a saint after her death.
Yes, Stacie is surely with Jesus now, but there are others who made similar heroic sacrifices in heaven with Jesus, too.

In the 1960′s a married lady I worked with was pregnant with their 3rd child. She was diagnosed with cancer at the same time. She refused all treatment and gave birth to a healthy child. The mother passed away shortly thereafter. I believe many women make this kind of decision more often than we know.

Maybe it is because mothers are the bearers of the “Future” and if the child is not born then the “Future” can not continue to exist.

My sister Barb was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was five months pregnant with my niece Julie. She was told to abort the baby and get chemotherapy, she refused and died when Julie was two years old. She would not even consider putting that babies life above her life own. Julie was married two weeks ago and can’t wait to start her own family.

My granddaughter was diagnosed with 3rd stage Malenoma when she was three months pregnant. She had surgery but refused chemo until after the birth of my great-granddaughter. She has had other surgeries since then, but is now cancer free and has another beautiful daughter four months old. We pray that she stays cancer free so she will be able raise these beautiful children.
God Bless this mother for her sacrifice.

There are those of us out there that will never choose ourselves over the gifts God has given us. As a mother of 3 with a 4th on the way, I know that I would make the same decision she made. I can only hope and pray that more women out there make this style choice more often, the alternative is heartbreaking. God Bless this woman and all those who have paved this road before her.

Stacie Crimm IS, without a doubt, MOTHER OF THE YEAR. Her daughter, Dottie, is VERY lucky to have had such a wonderful mother, if only for such a brief time. Thank GOD for his benevolence in allowing Stacie to not only have this baby (live long enough), but for giving Stacie the chance TO HOLD her precious child. Add one more 50 yr. old man to the “crying” list………..
