Mom’s Mad: Secret Service Grills 7th Grader Over Facebook Post About Obama

Fox News:

A 13-year-old boy in Washington state faced federal interrogation by a Secret Service agent over a Facebook posting that warned President Obama of suicide bombers, q13fox.com reports.

Vito LaPinta of Tacoma, Wash., said he posted a message on Facebook after Usama bin Laden’s death, saying Obama should be careful of possible retaliatory acts against him by other terror members, according to the station.

“I was saying how Usama was dead and for Obama to be careful because there could be suicide bombers,” the boy told the station.

A week later, the boy said a man walked into Truman Middle School “with a suit and glasses and he said he was part of the Secret Service.”

“He told me it was because of a post I made that indicated I was a threat toward the president,” he said.

KCPQ-TV:

The Tacoma school district acknowledged a Secret Service agent questioned Vito and that it was a security guard who called Vito’s mom because the principal was on another call. The school district said they didn’t wait for Vito’s mother to get there because they thought she didn’t take the phone call seriously.

“That’s a blatant lie,” Robertson said.

The teen’s mom says she rushed to Truman Middle School immediately and arrived to discover her son had already been questioned for half an hour.

“I just about lost it,” she said. “My 13 year-old son is supposed to be safe and secure in his classroom and he’s being interrogated without my knowledge or consent privately.”

It’s pretty bad form for the Secret Service to go to the school and not the home where they could have met with the parents along with the teenager. I would have expected better of the Secret Service.

I honestly do not think that in their hearts the SS thought that this was a threat. The goons have standing orders to go and harass ANYBODY that disparages Obama. And, since they make about 160K/year with full benefits and lavish pensions, they do what they are told to do, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. This is where you tax money went. To build a gestapo like aparatus to control the people’s thoughts.

Exactly. Because in the real world, these federal “law enforcement” personnel know that they are no match for ex military guys with combat theater experience. It is real easy to beat up on and threaten ordinary citizens that don’t fight back. But, taking on guys and gals that have fought soldier to soldier against highly trained people that actually shoot back is an entirely different ball game. The feds despise the military for this very reason.

This is the third instance in the last few months that the Federal Government has swept in because of a Facebook posting, the previous two were the home grown terrorists, and the government characterized those incidents as having been reported by other users whom had read the post. For me there is little doubt that the government uses super computers somewhere to crunch everything coming across the internet in often in violation of our 4th Amendment rights.. True it is a dangerous world these days but I am not sure that it may not be even more dangerous especially given the current political environment to further allow the erosion of our constitutional rights. It is my opinion that our emails are read, social sites, are analyzed for content and I wonder if our computers themselves are not scanned for content as we are connected to the internet. I am sure that the Federal Governments abilities are far more advanced than the phishing programs that we all seem to have to remove from our computers at one time or another.

In the words of Ben Franklin…

“Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

“And no, these powers predate the Patriot Act by many many years. Never, ever make a threat to the President, the Office of the President or the Presidents family in any sort of open forum or to anybody who may “rat” you out.”

Such a law is unConstitutional on its face, because it would preclude the scenario of treason on the part of the President – a scenario which would warrant the threat of death, though only Congress has the power to declare the punishment for treason.

US Constitution, Article 2, Section 4

“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

US Constitution, Article 3, Section 3

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

“The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.”

And remember that the Second Amendment was written to protect American citizens from corrupt government. Our freedom to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The voluntariness of consent, like the voluntariness of a statement, is mainly dependent upon the conduct and demeanor of the officer. Sometimes, however, the condition, conduct and/or demeanor of the “consenter” can be extremely important. In deciding whether the consent is voluntary, the court will “weigh” all of the factors involved. I‘m sure they couldn’t wait till school was out or contact his parents first to set up a meeting. That would be absurd to use common sense. This is a NO COMMON SENSE administration!! Everyone knows that! Local law enforcement would’ve waited and called his parents so why can they walk in and do whatever they want?? Because this administration has no boundaries and doesn’t recognize our constitution. You better vote in 2012!!!

The post here are just remarkable. Certainly, after the fact, it seem silly to question the kid, although SNOWLEOPARD suggests that it would be okay to question a kid if he’s “not American” which I think really means, not Muslim.

This is fascinating to me because it shows how high tech the CIA has become. Like Google does, the CIA has computers scanning the internet looking for keywords and combinations of words like, in this case “suicxxde bombxr” and “Obama.” I’m sure the computer also looks for “death thrxet” and “Bush.” When they see something suspicious, they follow up (they probably couldn’t tell the age of the poster or as SNOW says, whether or not they were Muslim). Actually, having typed those words, I imagine I’ll be flagged on an CIA computer somewhere. But you know what, that’s okay.

As a parent, I’d be ticked off too if this happened to my child. Not because of the CIA questioning, but because it frightened my child. But, if it were me, we’d talk a lot about the scary experience, but then about how the government is trying to protect us and sometimes makes mistakes.

What I see time and time again here is that people want to be safe from terrorist acts but expect their world to not change at all because of that protection.

chazman, I think you missed the point. The anti-terrorist people in our government are making an extraordinary effort to do everything they can to protect American citizens. Sure they are going to question people, who, after the fact, seem obviously innocent. The social networking sites are constantly scanned for keywords and combinations of (at least I know that now, and it’s a comfort). Does the CIA have any way of know that the information on the Facebook page, and whatever photos can be seen are true? Obviously not. Even if they did, can they know the kid didn‘t hear something at another person’s house, or through the grapevine that might actually be true? No, they don’t, they have no way of knowing that without talking to the person.

You’re an American right? Do you want the anti-terrorist people to ignore every post on a social networking site, or any site, simply because the person says he is seven years old? I think you want the governement to protect you, but not talk to anyone or check anyone’s luggage at the airport.

The US Secret Service is charged by law with the protection of the President, Vice President, their families, former Presidents and their spouses, minor children of former Prsidents until they reach the age of 16, Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, foreign heads of state visiting the US, and sometimes others. Pursuant to that, they are obligated to follow up on anything and everything that remotely might be a threat, or that even suggests a threat of physical harm to any of the individuals they protect. It’s just an inquiry to ascertain if there is any threat and if it is, it’s referred to the United States Attorney in the Federal Judicial District where the individual who may have made a threat did so for a decision on prosecution.

In this case we don’t know what prompted the interview, and that’s what it was rather than an “interrogation” as the mom put it, but if I were to venture an educated guess, it would be that somebody reported the youngster’s remarks as a threat, so the USSS was obligated to act on it. Assuming that’s what happened, the agent should consider that the person reporting it as a threat may know something beyond the obvious, so when in doubt, they inquire, which is what it appears happened. Better safe than sorry.

Really folks, it‘s highly unlikely there’s any more to it than that in spite of the local TV news media spin to make it seem more dramatic and/or conspiratorial.

Honestly, I love this kind of stuff. It makes Obama look incredibly weak and insecure. He’s sent his thugs after this kid, and previously a ufc fighter (a chiropractor by profession) for saying: “someone ought to knock some sense into the President”

Anyone popular or anyone who has some public clout will be closely scrutinized and silenced, through intimidation by the Secret Service. You will be placed on an “Enemies of the President” list. They will send Guido after you to make sure you don’t publicly disgrace the President. It’s very important for him to threaten those who he perceives can hinder his chances for re-election.

Well, OF COURSE American teenagers are terrorists! So are Moms who try to protect their children, and those of us who have a copy of the Constitution, and also American Servicemen who return home from Active Duty, – remember??? Little old ladies are terrorists, too because they might remember what freedom and honor really mean and use it against the ruling communist white house party. Oh! Those of us who Pledge our Allegiance to a flag, instead of to a communist /socialist party are terrorists, too…Now, those politicians who have never stood in the service of their country as a military service(wo)man and are busy tearing the USA apart, – now, THESE are upstanding “citizens” and are WAY above being terrorist suspects. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where are those money-hungry lawyers when you need them? There should be enough pro-bono attorneys, out to make a great name for themselves and their groups, to offer their services to this family to sue the US GOVERNMENT officials who OK’d terrorizing an innocent teenager after he was obviously concerned for the safety of the President.

The Secret Service is not a goon squad. They are men and women sworn to defend the life of the President of The United States with their own, irregardless of their own political convictions. The questions should not be asked of the government employees, they should be asked of we who are paying them. Why are we paying them?

Actually the Secret Service was in the right. Not the questioning without mom part but the questioning period part. They had NO IDEA who the poster was of if it was a threat until after they found and talked to the poster. The Secret Service MUST TAKE ALL THREATS AS REAL UNTIL DETERMED OTHERWISE. Anything else is an unnecessary and UNREASONABLE RISK TO POTUS.

My questions are these: How did this Facebook post-out of millions of users- grab the attention of the Secret Service?
Also: why about this “private profile” was deemed a serious threat and why isn’t a warrant necessary for intruding on this kids personal effects i.e. 4th amendment?
Is this a warning that the government can hack into anything without our permission?
How are the American people going to react?
Keyboard outrage and then back to things as usual?
Honestly, I know the answers. Do you, fellow Blazers?
Clearly, the Secret Service weren’t interested in having a parent there.

Some of you folks don’t get it. If there was ever an apolitical agency in government, it’s the US Secret Service. Their job is to protect the person who holds the office. They respond to perceived threats, all of them they know about, no matter how trivial they might seem. They can’t afford not to.

With the consequences of somethign going terribly wrong by not taking action aside, think about it from the perspective of being the person (Special Agent) responsible for not following up. If there is an incident or attack, it will be examined ad nauseam by everybody, top to bottom. Remember the the attack on President Reagan at the Washington Hilton? Would you want to be the person who considered something too trivial to follow up on and it turn out to be another John Hinkley, the guy the FBI interviewed and wrote him off as not worth the effort?

What boggles the mind though is how some of you have regarded the report of some cub reporter for a local TV news station as gospel just because it gives you an excuse to bash Obama. There’s plenty of legitimate stuff to criticize him and his administration for, so why are you wasting effort on this silliness? Think about it.

The SS came a couple of days later and questioned him. They will stretch all sorts of things into threats. This also isn’t new.

Obama ordered the murder of Ben Laden and it started a war with Pakistan. The US Secret Service has become the American version of Reich‘s Marshal Hermin Himmler’s SS. Maybe the SS should be question Party Chairmen Reich’s Furier Obama.
