Teen Accidentally Texts Sheriff to Buy Pot

Teen Accidentally Texts Sheriff to Buy Pot

(AP) — General rule of thumb: when looking to buy marijuana, don’t text the sheriff. Authorities said a Helena teen sent out a text message last week in search of pot, but instead of contacting the drug dealer, he hit a wrong number and inadvertently sent the message to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.

The text read, “Hey Dawg, do you have a $20 I can buy right now?”

Dutton told the Helena Independent Record he initially thought it was a joke, but he quickly realized it was a real request for drugs. He responded to the text, and a detective pretending to be the dealer organized a meeting with the boy last Wednesday.

The detective spotted two teenage boys and a man at the arranged meeting spot and called the number three times to make sure he had the right person. Dutton said when the detective showed the teens his badge, their faces turned white and their knees began to wobble. One of the boys even fainted.

The man in the group turned out to be the father of one of the teens, and no citations were issued after the parents of both boys got involved.

“Trying to buy drugs is a crime, but it’s probably worse that they had to face their parents,” Dutton said.

Maybe the teen text-ed the wrong officer. A suburban Pittsburgh (Ross Twp) officer was caught watering a wild marijuana plant. http://kdka.com/kdkainvestigators/Ross.police.officer.2.1892189.html

I have tried pot a few times when I was younger. I personally didn’t care for it. I had several friends that enjoyed it and used regularly. Most of them I knew held jobs and were normal people. A few of them might have been somewhat lazy and without direction but the same can be said for some that didn’t use pot.
I also used to go out to bars and drink (still do on a rare occasion) and there is one observation I would like to make. I have seen many belligerent and violent drunks. I can not recall any time that I have seen someone high on pot being belligerent or violent. Most of the times it was just the opposite. They were usually mellow and laid back.
All personal experience aside. I do not believe the government or anyone else has the right to restrict another persons actions unless that person is harming someone else or otherwise violating another persons rights by doing so. To me it is not should we legalize marijuana but is the law restricting it constitutional in the first place? In my opinion it’s not.

    Legalize it!
It can be a great money maker for the Government with taxes.
    Alcohol and Tobacco is worse.

Legalize it and let them grow it themselves already… alcohol causes many more problems, and nobody has a problem with it.

    Time to stop being hypocrites.

It’s a plant. God didn’t screw up by putting it here. I think you should be able to use it or ignore it as YOU see fit. Just like arsenic, cyanide, or scotch.

I’m a libertarian who thinks pot is a plant that helps some people, and harms others. Do I think you should be getting high? If you’re an adult, go sniff glue if you want. If you want to get high do so with the same limitations that we impose on alcohol use. Asking govenment to act as perpetual Daddy is weak.

They didn’t arrest them for trying to buy drugs but they should have given them a citation for being stupid. They should have talked to the young “gentlemen” about thinking about getting sterilized. The gene pool is already filled with idiots.

…and it’s so much easier to talk on the phone instead of text. Just can’t figure our the attraction to texting, especially when putting through an order to dealer McDope whose product increases paranoia, knowing that all texting is logged and can and will be used for evidence. But they still don’t get it. We didn’t have all this technology when I was in school. We had to walk 5 miles to do drugs and have sex. LOL

What was the father doing there in the first place?? 20 or 30 years ago, it would have been worse to be released to your parents. The only lesson that these boys will learn here is to be more careful when buying drugs.

Maybe you should try finding a truthful slander against pot heads before you spew off your idiocy. There were lazy people before and will be after weed. Mark.

Thankfully it’s only a matter of time before marijuana is made legal again. The latest polls look like the People of California will pass Prop 19 in the November elections, & I’m excited about it. I wonder how the Feds will react when they do….will they send in federal troops to prevent the State Assembly from metting & implementing it? I’m sure the Drug Warriors all across the nation will have their pants in a wad.
