More ‘Bologna!’: Gingrich Faces Off Again With CNN’s John King Over Debate Question

CNNs John King Confronts Gingrich on Open Marriage Debate QuestionIt was the GOP debate question heard the world-round. After introducing the candidates at CNN’s Southern debate last Thursday, moderator John King asked candidate Newt Gingrich about his ex-wife’s claim that the former speaker wanted an “open marriage.”

On Tuesday night, following a barrage of media coverage, King and Gingrich faced off, once again, to address the appropriateness of the question at hand. King, who has defended the debate question, took Gingrich’s critiques to task. In particular, he confronted the candidate‘s allegation that he’s a part of the “elite media” who are purportedly seeking to take the candidate down. He said:

“I want to come back to your point there, sir. You were attacking me and calling me part of the elite media. We can debate whether it was an appropriate question at the beginning of debate. My business is debating that, but I could not have asked you the question if your ex-wife had not come forward. She’s a Republican, sir. She said she supports much of your principles. How was that an example of the elite media trying to protect Barack Obama?”

Gingrich responded by asking a number of questions. To begin, he pondered why ABC would go “drudge up something” that had already made headlines years ago. Additionally, he questioned the story’s timing — just days before an important primary.

CNNs John King Confronts Gingrich on Open Marriage Debate Question

“I would just suggest to you that when the only person you get is an ex-wife who wants to testify on the air just before a primary with nobody allowed to rebut her, there’s something a little goofy about that design,” Gingrich said. “You didn’t have to take the bait. You didn’t have to pick it up. You could have ignored ABC,” he continued, going on to say that there were other issues of importance that could have been addressed.

Watched the exchange, below:

Gingrich also alleges that ABC was offered people who could refute his ex-wife’s story, but that the network wasn’t interested. When King said that the network did, indeed, say that it would have interviewed people, but that the campaign hadn’t offered, Gingrich responded, saying, “Oh, that is just plain bologna!” He reiterated that there were people ready and willing to rail against his ex’s story.

The tone of the interview, while tense, was more cordial than it was at last week’s debate when Gingrich responded to the question, saying, “I think the destructive, vicious, negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern this country, harder to attract decent people to run for public office. I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that!”

This isn’t the first time Gingrich has used the bologna line. He also used it in reference to Glenn Beck calling out his comments about “progressive” presidents.

Gingrich is shrewd and slick. When confronted with a question he can’t honestly answer or refuses to give an answer to, he aptly turns it around and forcefully rants and demeans the opposition. I’ve been watching this with amusement every time he is questioned on tv interviews as well. With his background of duplicity, he must somehow negate the seemy parts of his career and personal life with quips and anger to gain momentum from an audience who wants to be entertained rather than view a substantial debate.

I think the question should have been asked later on in the debate in a less attacking way. John King was stupid to open up the debate with this question.

Later on, we learn that Gingrich will not participate in another debate without the audience participation.
We have learned that the only way Gingrich can now win is to provide “entertainment” to his audience who are silly enough to want some sort of a reality show rather than true debate. Better these people vote for Stephen Colbert. Gingrich is a sleazy, dishonest, conniving man who has a personal and political background that is an embarrassment to his party.

Well said. Newt is a master at mass distraction and a wizard at avoiding questions and substantive answers. Newt mastered the sound bite, slogan, loose with the facts…. blame the media approach that Sister Sarah and M. Bachmann attempted to use. He would be a disaster as President.

All Newt is doing is REFRAMING the conversation. Reframing is necessary when distraction is game being played. If more Conservatives were adept at reframing and correctly framing the conversation we would never had an obama. It’s really a simple concept. They put you on defense, you defend and then go on offense where they have left a big hole! This is how the underdog wins. This is basic engagement. THIS is how you beat Alinsky! Alinsky is about lies and deception and distraction. What are you to do… Let the offense tell you what play you should run? balogni

Whether you like Newt’s values or not, he is going to be effective against Obama’s spin machine. Newt is going to hit back twice as hard and he means to win. Get it – fighting liberals with their own medicine. It is going to be entertaining. That’s why the Dems want Romney so bad. Romney gets flustered and goes off track and ends up playing by the talking points that pinned him in.

Like of not, Newt has an edge. And no, this is not an endorsement. Newt doesn’t represent my values.

You’d think the party of “family values” would be concerned about his adulterous affairs, but they’re not. You‘d think they’d wonder why, while he was speaker, the vast majority of his Republican collegues voted to fine him for ethics violations, and then engineered his removal from the speakership. But they’re not. You‘d think people would be concerned that he’s taken both sides of virtually every important issue (most recently by chastising the President for not acting in the Lybian revolt, then, days after the US and allies began to support the rebels, saying he would not have gone to Lybia).

So what is it about Newt? In my opinion it‘s simply because he’s angry and expressing his fake outrage at the press, Muslims and whomever else. He’s running on the anger platform.

Regardless of anything, we’re gonna have to hold our noses again this election. Do we want a marxist, back in WH or do we want an adulterer? Do we want gay or straight? Do we want to become a worst Nanny state, or do we want freedom? None of it looks good for America, but I’ll vote for the best of the worst. I’d rather have a repentant adulterer than the alternative.

We don’t want to be entertained, and the fools who believe that we care for no more than entertainment denigrate the passion of the vast majority of Americans who are interested in saving their country from an Alinsky Marxist, the Fraud-In-Chief, Barry Soetoro.

We’re past fed up; we want to save ourselves, our children and grandchildren from the evils being poured upon us by the MAObama regime in every aspect of our lives. We want a fire-breather – someone who will burn down Barry Soetoro in public for the fraud that he is, often, with passion and with regularity. Newt Gingrich can do that with alacrity; Romney never and Santorum, perhaps….

We want the country saved, we want a dragon slayer and millions of us believe it is Gingrich, flaws and all, baggage and all, crooked or not, ethically challenged or not. Most are not so naive as to believe he is the perfect candidate, but we do know the stakes are as high as they can be. Taking a page from the historic register of the Demorats – he may be a crook, but he’s our crook. Nuff said!

I have to agree with the process to counter the tactics of the left. Beat them at their own game. I think this is probably the time where the Republicans/Conservatives, instead of cowering to the false accusations because we don’t agree with them, like dirty air and water, racists, homophobes, everything, this is the point in history to which the left will be weakened and exposed for what it is and if the TEA party was part of the coming out party, Newt giving the Conservatives the extra push to come completely out of the closet and set things straight, life will be so much better. The problem between the liberals and conservatives is, liberalism helps some, and the conservatives suffer, but conservatism helps all, so everyone benefits and any suffering is because that is what the individuals want but at least they can get out of it if they want.

Newts inability to keep his commitment to his wiveS is a disqualification to be President according to CONSERVATIVE principles and values.

Oddly, many forget that Newt not only broke his commitment to his wives but also broke his commitment to Americans by not getting all Newt promised out of “Contract for America”, by being forced out as Speaker, and by switching sides on policies like flip flopper Mitt Romney.

Newt cannot keep commitments if his life depended upon it. If you vote for Newt, you have no Principles or Values and are simply voting for another crooked politician saying what you want to hear today to get elected.

He may have asked forgiveness, and perhaps he even received it; that does not mean he is qualified to lead the free world. We must pay for the mistakes we make in this life. Forgiveness from God does not mean exemption from the standards of the office of the president.

Try to enlighten us with facts and substrance rather than imitate the liberal media’s emotional outrage. Here’s some advice I gave an earlier commentor that you should subscribe to also… “keep silent and be thought a fool, rather than speak and remove all doubt”.

Newt has been cleared and proven false 83 of 83 Alinsky attacks. That is batting 1000. At what point do we give a man his due? “Nancy knows something” REALLY? REALLY? From CNN’s “Inside Politics” February 3, 1999

NOTE: Of the 84 ethics charges filed (exclusively by Democrats) against Newt Gingrich, 83 were subsequently dropped due to a complete lack of merit or foundation in fact. The remaining charge is the subject of the below video. It too proved to be utterly baseless.

It’s always good to keep the record straight.

TRANSCRIPT BELOW beginning with CNN’s Brooks Jackson:

JACKSON (voice-over): It was legal after all. Newt Gingrich’s oh-so-controversial college course that he started back in 1993, before he was speaker.

      Remember how Democrats denounced it?

REP. DAVID BONIOR (D), MICHIGAN: Mr. Gingrich engaged in a pattern of tax fraud.

REP. JOHN LEWIS (D), GEORGIA: We now have a speaker under investigation for lying to the council, investigation his involvement in a massive tax-fraud scheme.

JACKSON: Tax fraud? Well, never mind. After a three-and-a-half year examination, the Internal Revenue Service — Bill Clinton’s IRS — hasissued an official finding: no violation of tax laws. Critics said the course, which was videotaped and widely distributed, was too political; a scheme to use a tax-exempt educational foundation to promote a Republican agenda and elect Republican candidates.

But in a 74-page memorandum, the IRS said otherwise, quote: “The taught principles from American civilization that could be used by each American in everyday life, whether the person is a welfare recipient, the head of a

I respectfully disagree with Mr Obama’s polices but seriously have to state that Sharia law is extremely sexist and racist towards woman and non Muslims. I for one cannot and will not endorse Sharia law here in the United States. A separation of Mosque and state needs to be implemented in American Government and the Judicial system. Honor killing is a true form of murder. There is nothing racists in stating facts. Saying no to both the Democrats and Sharia Law is not racists. The race card is a non debatable tactic and quite the emotional knee jerk reaction.

An honor killing or honour killing is the homicide of a member of a family or social group by other members, due to the belief of the perpetrators that the victim has brought dishonor upon the family or community. Honor killings are directed mostly against women and girls, but have been extended to men.

I like GB, but I am not in full agreement with his assessment of Newt. First, lets say if everything GB says about Newt is true, this suggests that Romney is a more conservative candidate. I disagree. Newt with all his warts breaks enough glass with the GOP establishment to get them to move to thr right, which is probably why Newt is so unpopular with them. Second, McCain lost because he was not aggressive and he could barely orate a coherent thought. Mc Cain tried too hard to find a middle ground with the liberals – no middle ground exists. I believe Romney is McCain 2,0 in this category. Regarding Romney, the right words are occasionally there, but as our current President has proven, words do not matter. Action does. Again, Newt and all his baggage achieves measurable results. Feel free to disagree.

Investigate for yourself the stuff he’s been accused of – including Glenn‘s and Ann Coulter’s. I used to be a fan of hers but think she’s gone over the top lately for Romney and against Newt also.
Re Romney – Christie endorsed him; he just nominated Supreme Court judges — one is a Muslim and one is an openly gay – saying his state was “diverse” and this was the best choices. WHAT?!!!
Romney did similar things when Gov. — the NE Repub. are very moderate & are sensitive to political correctness, compromise, etc. – not necessarily “fighters” like we need now. Romney is always saying that Obama is a “nice guy…he just doesn’t understand or is over his head” – he either is lying for political reasons or if he’s not aware, that’s bad judgement call….both bad. At least Newt calls it more how it is and has shown he can fight, doesn’t care about “pc” and can get things done.
I really like Santorum but he doesn’t have that “fire” either. There are many reasons why the Congress back in the 90‘s didn’t like him – probably most were RINOs – and maybe the reasons were good ones that Consvs. would agree with. His ex-wife is not a problem in my opinion either. Old news & I have serious doubts about HER. But.

The majority of the people that don’t like Newt, focus on the same old stuff, over and over. Regardless to the pundits opinions, it’s quite obvious the American people are making their own decision. Newt is a big government, big spending Progressive with a “R” after his name. In other words a wolf in sheep clothing! He uses radical left-wing progressive tactics all the time. Just like when he called Paul Ryan’s plan “right-wing social engineering” or when he try to demonize capitalism or when he said amnesty was the only way to fix our illegal problem.

Newt used Saul Alinsky rules all the time!
    1. Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.
    2. Never go outside the experience of your people.
    3. Whenever possible go outside the experience of the enemy.
    4. Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.
    5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.
    6. A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.
    7. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.
    8. Keep the pressure on.
    9. The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.
    10. Maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.
    11. If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counter side.
    12. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.
    13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

His ex-wife did make a public statement some years ago that, if Newt ever ran for office, she would ruin him. There is no question, regarding her hatred for Gingrich, which leads me to believe that t5here is more to the story.

As a side note, was she screwing around with Newt when he was married to his first wife? If so, what’s her problem with Newt and Calista doing the same thing to her? All in all, I think were seeing more than one dirt bag here, but none as sleazy as the three Kennedy brothers and their offspring – not by a long shot.

Look this is real simple folks, Newt is a progressive who lacks morals. Romney is a progressive with morals. If you can get around Pauls views on foreign policy he’s great. Santorum is the only conservative left in the race. Choose your poison.

I am tired of Gingrich’s whining, nastiness and arrogance.

Newt is a weasel and don‘t think for one minute he wouldn’t abuse the executive order like O has been doing. Newt is just as liberal as Obama. Newt wants to be king too!

I am stunned that so many people in the GOP believe what this guy says. I guess it has become the party of STUPID or the party of Deny and Deflect.

Newt is nothing like the President Moron. And to be a liberal is not to be corrupt. And to be a Republican is not to be corrupt. It is the INDIVIDUAL person who is corrupt.
