LOS ANGELES (The Blaze/AP) — Several more cars burned in suspected arson attacks in the Los Angeles area early Saturday morning, and authorities investigated if they were connected to nearly two dozen deliberately set blazes a day earlier, police said.

Seven or eight cars burned Saturday in the North Hollywood area, said officer Robert Collier.

He said he didn’t have further details of the blazes, but said arson is suspected and there could be a link to the earlier blazes.

“We believe there might be, but we don’t know for sure,” he said.

Fire officials said the first report came in shortly after midnight, and the most recent about three hours later.

Early Friday morning, fires were reported in nearly two dozen locations in Hollywood and the neighboring city of West Hollywood during a four-hour period before dawn. In nearly every case, the fire started in a parked car.

Flames from torched vehicles ignited some nearby houses early Friday, including one once occupied by Doors frontman Jim Morrison.

But Collier said that although some of Saturday’s blazes are in carports and garages, he didn’t have any reports of damage to buildings.

Police up a command post in the North Hollywood area and have called a tactical alert, allowing them to call in more officers.

No arrests have been made and no injuries reported.

Another car fire was reported around 7 p.m. Friday in an underground garage in Hollywood that fire officials were investigating for possible links to the series of arson blazes. Los Angeles Fire Capt. Jaime Moore said that a connection hasn’t been ruled out.

Arson investigators “consider it to be an incendiary fire similar to the fires from this morning,” he told The Associated Press.

The new fires broke out even as authorities beefed up patrols and urged the public to remain vigilant overnight.

Officials announced at least $35,000 in rewards for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible.

All of the Friday’s fires were in a 2-square mile area and most were in densely populated residential neighborhoods where residents would likely be asleep.

Authorities interviewed witnesses and looked for any video footage that may have captured the person, or people, responsible for the spate of crimes. Investigators from four agencies met for a strategy session, while Los Angeles officials summoned investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Fire officials couldn’t say whether the rash of fires was the work of a copycat. There was a series of other arson fires early Thursday, also in Hollywood. Two people have been arrested and remain in custody for those blazes, officials said.

One of the homes was in Laurel Canyon, where Morrison and his girlfriend once lived, neighbors said. The winding road was the inspiration for the Doors’ hit “Love Street,” and the house was listed for nearly $1.2 million earlier this year, according to real estate website Zillow.com.

Sandy Gendel, who owns a nearby restaurant, said he heard explosions from what he later determined were likely car tires. He saw flames 30 feet high coming from the deck of the former Morrison house and a gutted Mazda Miata.

“It was just like a towering inferno,” Gendel said.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jaime Moore said it is plausible that one person in a car, on a motorcycle or on a bike could have set all the fires, considering the limited area the blazes broke out in.

Hollywood is served by the Los Angeles city police and fire departments. Adjacent West Hollywood is a separately incorporated city served by the Los Angeles County fire and sheriff’s departments.

Archstone- Actually, fed-up conservative Californians have been leaving the state for a very long time due to cost of living, and overcrowdedness caused people moving in from other states so that their “alternative lifestyles” will be more accepted (gag). But when we leave, we find that much of the country is made-up of ignorant, hostile rednecks who may vote republican but haven’t a clue what true conservatism is. If you weren’t so judgemental, you would see that these “carpetbagging” Californians are some of the nicest and well-informed people you will ever meet. Would you be mad if someone like George Patton or Ronald Reagan moved next to you?

Left decades ago and came to Minnesota where we still have 10,000 taxes but it’s too cold for Californians. Besides, even if they did come here in the winter time, it‘s easier to track ’em.

“Well, I see a lot more burning in these photos than cars…..
    Anyone else see building ablaze?”

The local news said, “car ports.” The blaze at Jim Morrison’s old house in Laurel Canyon appears to be a car (Mazda Miata) set on fire on the street, most of the rest I’ve seen were set in car ports under buildings so “yes” buildings are going to be damaged.

Jim Morrison was the lead singer for “The Doors.” Their first hit song that went to Number 1 on the charts and was entitled – - – are you ready for this – - – “Light My Fire.“ Were ”The Doors” a big counter culture band from the 1960s? You betcha! Does anybody here think all that’s mere coincidence?

The house in Laurel Canyon was an almost total loss from a little Mazda Miatia lit on fire on, parked on the street, while bigger buildings with cars burning directly underneath them suffered less damage. Hmm, was more fire starter used in that fire in Laurel Canyon, or was it just the wooded terrain and heavy hillside (Santa Monica Mountains) that caused the whole building to be lost? Laurel Canyon (in that area) is a narrow winding street, making the house not so easy to get to by a big fire truck so that may have been a problem too.

Yeah. it’s the OWS hippies. I heard that their new slogan was something like “Occupy everywhere, then burn everything”. That’s probably not an exact quote, but it’s close. The good news is that they’re doing it in California, and anybody caught burning anything in California is going to do some serious time in jail, thanks to the extreme tree-hugger laws there.

On the other hand, we normal people really do need to start busting some heads… literally. If we don’t, then this violence, vandalism & destruction of other people’s property is going to continue to get worse. Don’t break out the guns just yet, but I think a few baseball bats & motorcycle chains fastidiously applied to some OWS’ers would do much to rain on their parade.

    I hate hippies.

Why would someone from OWS want to burn Hollywood? The vast majority of films that come out of that place are in line with the OWS message/Marxist ideology. Yes, Hollywood movies are big business, and yes risky loans were made to make movies that lost money, or had very poor returns, but Hollywood, especially West Hollywood, is a bastion of far left extremists, IMO. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe my trying to use logic and reason to analyze the insanity of a crazy fire starter isn’t realistic. Well, isn’t that the theme throughout the OWS movement? Complete and utter illogical ideolgy?

It is remarkable, the difference in each sides definition of freedom. The right believes in freeom to life, freedom to make a living, freedom to pursue happiness. The left’s idea of freedom is freedom from responsibility, freedom from work, freedom from having to use your brain, etc.

There is at least one Communist based organization that operates out of Hollywood (and one other L.A. County area that I know of), that’s been very supportive of the OWS movement. I would certainly hope that police and fire investigators have them on their radar. Maybe they should look for probably cause (like OWS threats), get a search warrant and go to their physical addresses and search for fire starting materials.

Let’s see, OWS was thrown out of downtown L.A. (City Hall lawn area) just a week or two ago, and now this. Yea, the timing is about right and the modus operandi of these fires fits the threats some in that OWS crowd were making on local late night news shows. But is Mayor Villaragosa (D), who was initially welcoming to OWS, doing everything he can to get to the bottom of these fires, or is he just a big part of the problem? The damages to Los Angeles, because of OWS’s previous malfeasance has already cost local taxpayers millions and now this. Maybe Villaragosa can get Obama to bail him out. What’s a few more million, or billion, or trillion, when your OWS allies overall goal is to collapse America? :-/

Seems kinda silly to waste their time burning cars. Should be burning churches…On Sunday morning.

Okay right off the bat this looks like a seriel arsonist at work or a small gathering of them looking to cause trouble, based on what evidence is provided right now in the stories about this.

The next level of question I need to ask is this…
Is it just an arsonist(s) who are doing the fire-bug special?
Is it a band of anarchists?
Is it, worse case, a test run to gague the response times of the fire department for emergenices, to lay a larger trap later on via a terror group infiltrated into the US or one of Obamas bands?

In the case of the last question, look at it this way – chaos caused by first responders coming to the fires and then some are set with secondary explosive traps that go off later as the fires are beign fought. A trap within a trap. Chaos and pressure-pressure-pressure as Obama and Van Jones want and need.

I think it’s a cereal arsonist. He is mad someone peed in his corn flakes.

Why are the fires being set in three suburbs that have the name “Hollywood:” Hollywood, West Hollywood, and now (Saturday night) N. Hollywood? I wonder if “Studio City” is next? It sounds like it’s related to Hollywood and is contiguous to the areas being targeted. Does somebody not like movies, or the popcorn, or what? Is there an out of work actor who’s gone over the edge? Is it possible it‘s a conservative who’s fed up with Hollywood lefties (I hope not)? Maybe the fire starter is an out of work, special effects/explosions individual who’s been replaced by computer generated images CGI. There are lots of questions, and lots of possibilities, but no good reason(s) for these obviously arsonist fires.

Holly wood: a type of wood often used in the making of ‘magic wands’, (see: Harry Potter), invocational props.

Hollywood: an area in California known for producing ‘movie magic’ (the eyes ARE the windows to the soul… but they are INPUT not OUTPUT). Tool of the Illuminati to telegraph their ‘punches’ (or, moves) in furthering their agenda. (Conspiracy Theory, don’ ya know)

I hate to say this, but these fires may be set by a fireman. Before everyone jumps on me, it has happened in the past where a fireman, who was passed over for a promotion, or who felt the department was getting shafted in their budget, creates a situation where they can get more budget money and more personnel or a raise. It also could be someone who was denied or failed to become a fireman. I hope I am wrong and will gladly admit it.

The other possibility is to cover up a pending crime. If you create a pattern of cars on fire and then you find a body in one of the cars, they may pass it off as arson death rather than a murder.

This concerns me as I have relatives that live in West Hollywood. I am not in contact with them much, but they are still family.

Well this incident prompted me to go do a web search and unfortunately I have found out my aunt passed away in 2007. In fact, I found a write up on my uncle who was quite “famous”. I knew he worked as a doorman at the Ambassador Hotel, but I never realized its significance. This is where I found my aunt had died. God rest her soul. I am not sure if my cousins still live in the area. I really need to keep in contact with my dad’s side of the family.

If anyone is interested in reading about my uncle, apparently a LA icon, here is the link.

Or just some dumb@sses with absolutely nothing better to do with their time. There are a lot out there who create havoc and chaos… just because they can.
