Wild Shooting in Crowded Kansas City Plaza Injures Three Teenagers While Mayor Ducks for Cover

Shots ripped across a crowded plaza in Kansas City on Saturday night,  striking three teenagers and forcing a nearby city Mayor Sly Jones to hit the deck for cover with his bodyguards.

Fortunately, nobody was killed by the attack on the Country Club Plaza, though two young males were wounded and a female was grazed by a bullet on her cheek.

But the shooting has deeply troubled residents of Kansas City because the city’s mayor was on site during the shooting with a team of community organizers, and the area is known as a major congregation area for unsupervised youth. Approximately 500 people were present at the plaza during the shooting, reports the Kansas City Star, and hundreds of those present were young teens.

Given the environment across the country of youth riots and flash mobs, many fear that unless something is done, there could be worse violence on the horizon. With that in mind, Kansas City may now follow suit with cities such as Philadelphia that have instituted curfews for those under age 18. Kansas City already has a curfew in place, but it may lower it, and increase enforcement efforts.

With teen unemployment in cities like D.C. above 50%, and social media allowing disaffected youth to spread resentment and organize their own riots, more urban centers like Kansas City may decide to institute increasingly drastic measures to prevent the further contagion of mob violence across the country.

    Until we as a society are willing to openly and honestly debate the issues of race an culture these events will will become more numerous and more violent. Our eyes do not lie, but the media does. Katrina was the most obvious and blatant example of proof.

      yes and no…color of skin is equal, cultures are not. bt what happens when you base a culture soley off of color. thats what the minority communities have been doing fr years. we have to openly and forcefully what the the minority community wants. wehave to forcefully discuss and not back down to pc or worry about being polite. we hve to discuse a culture that from cradl to grave teaches that they are opressed no mtter what. Peppa is a perfect example of the voctocrat mentality. she says she is a “successful broker” but in he same breath cries about racism and being opressed. londn we hae middle class kids crying and destroying everything because they feel they are opressed. we also hve to admit that at some point we cannot save everyone and will have to cut our losses to sav our country. it won be polite. but its timeto cull the herd

      What is being seen is what happens to a targeted group of people who have been seduced by goodies handed out by government over several generations. Do you want free stuff? No problem – vote early, vote often, vote Democratic.

      When LBJ, who was a vile racist no friend of black folks, was pushing the Great Society programs, what he was gambling on was capturing and maintaining a stranglehold on black voters. He didn’t give a flying fig about black folks – only the votes that they could deliver to him. This is akin to a drug pusher hooking someone and making them to anything to get their next fix.

      What LBJ didn’t realize is that, while he was building a rock-solid powerbase for his party, he was not only shattering the social well-being of the black community (which was coming along handsomely, I might add), but also the rest of the country, because was we all know, any crack tends to run unless you drill a hole at the end of the fissure. The cracking has spiderwebbed into all communities: white, hispanic, and Asian – nobody is immune to this. Now $7 trillion dollars later, we have bigger problems that we did in 1965.

      In order to fix the problem, people must change their hearts and minds; without that, nothing will change.

      While I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment here, I would augment your statement with the necessity to identify the origins of Political Correctness, and it’s plan. It is Cultural Marxism, and was planned step by step as a weapon aimed at destroying our culture and traditions. This isn’t conjecture, it is written in their own words. Google “The Frankfurt School” to start learning.
      As an aside:
      I would argue that the LA Riots were a better example than Katrina, but that’s just opinion…

      Great conversation/opinions here. Wish you guys would have been on earlier. @Ready2Rumble is spot on. It is exactly what I was pointing out in an earlier thread with the government hand outs, but since I didn’t apply the social problems specifically to one race, I was being compared to liberals. I guess it is really hard for some people to see past color. Yes the black race/culture in America has many problems, but it is not because of their genetics.

      Country Club Plaza is @ 50th and Main in Downtown Kansas City.
      This is in fact an area where the very very rich people hang out, and is also a hangout for gay folks.
      I used to work security at Jewelry Stores in this area, and all the items in the store are the most expensive you can get. It’s not uncommon to see Limos and even Rolls Royces in this area.
      Encinom you’d be out of place here, quite out of place.

      I‘m surprised that the Tea Party hasn’t been blamed for this!! Seems like when anything horrible happens, it just HAS to be the Tea Party. Heaven forbid there’s any introspection to find out where this is truly coming from. I have to say, many of my friends‘ children didn’t get jobs, either, but it would never occur to them to take to the streets and commit acts of violence. It’s all in the parenting, but what‘s scary is that the nanny state proponents will say it’s all the more reason they need to “step in.”

    People have to have something to do! It’s entrenched in our nature. It’s understandable that kids need jobs. Parents, first and foremost, need to control their kids. Know where they are going, who they will be with, and when they will be coming home. It BLOWS my mind that anyone would just allow their teen to run around and not have a clue where they are. But, something should be done at a community level. Get these kids working, volunteering, or helping out local farmers pull in their harvest. Seriously, is it such a bad idea to make these kids do some honest hard work?

      Get these kids working and helping out in their communities. Apparently you’ve never been around these kind of “yoofs.” They aren’t going to work, and they aren’t going to help out in their communities. Once they‘ve hit a certain age usually around 14 or 15 there’s no chance in saving them. Kind of like a horse with a broken leg. Only thing they’ll ever produce for society is crime and license plates.

      God bless you, you are obviously a God fearing individual. We all agree that there are lots of issues in the black and Latino communities. I set up drug dealers in Brooklyn in 98 because I know it kills our hopes and dreams of a better life for the people who live in those areas. But it seems as if a lot of people get “JOY” coming to blogs when things in the inner cities go down. But where are the stories about the good that happens in these communities.

      And by the way, was the story of the white kids who killed an innocent black man in Mississippi on this blog. His name is James Anderson and he was beat to a pulp and then run over by a racist white teen name Daryl Dedmon. Google it.

      All we ask for is fair coverage across the board. And compassion.

      Do you think that this could be because the single mothers got pregnant at 16 and have never had the chance to have their party time and they are wanting to once the kids get old enough (in the mothers eyes) to go hang out on the town? This is a cultural thing. It is in the upbringing of the parents, the kids, the politicians, and the police in our day and age. If you see a group of 30 underage kids (black or white) hanging around without parents in a place that has a lot of bars and been having issues with these mobs, the police should be pro-active and round up the hoodlums and send them to CPS. Then when the parents come to get the kids from CPS they can be charged with child endangerment and go to jail. Maybe that will get common sense into these parents heads.

      And it is called the “Country Club Plaza”, a high-end shopping district. Locals and area natives (myself included) tend to call it the “Plaza”, which leads to the confusion.

      The “Plaza” is most famously known for the “Plaza Lights” Christmas Light Display, where the entire district is lit with millions of lights.

      I used to see them lights too, all the time.
      I lived in the KC/Independence area when Cleaver was on the council, and Dick Berkley was the mayor. I think Charles B. Wheeler was mayor at one time too as I remember.
      I lived there for 20+ years.

      If you get a chance, go out to the airport, across the Broadway Bridge, I think on the west side of the field, find a “Connie” Hangar/Museum, where they keep the old restored Lockheed Constellations.
      Matter of fact one of them was from here used as a slurry bomber fighting forest fires back in the early 1970′s

      WOW- that does shed some light. Ridiculous. The man-child had the nerve to threaten the officer with his job because he was the mayor’s son. THEN- the mayor apologizes FOR HIS son. No personal responsibility at all.

      Seems to me, you are right. The mayor needs to crack a whip on his adult son. And that is the problem in this country. We think that just because our children come of age we are absolved from whatever they do. Maybe this is true financially, but there are things parents can do to admonish their adult children. We have to repair the family unit in this country. First, through discipline and consistency when they are children and then through intrafamily means when they are adults. This means calling them out on stupid decisions, embarrassment in front of the family, and so forth. It’s called tuff love (spelling intentional) and no one seems to have the guts to do it anymore.

I live in KC and the news broadcast I watched of the incident mentioned more detail of what happened. I noticed this article did NOT along with other articles I searched.       There have been more than enough incidences like this recently to show that it is indeed all about “respect”. When a young black male or female feels they have been “dissed”, there is often violence to follow shortly. I’m sure the shooting was probably about someone not showing the proper respect to a thug who just happened to be packing.

      You are exactly right – today’s youth feels as if they are simply owed respect rather than having to earn it. Parents, teachers, and most others in thier daily lives let them do as they please 24/7, so when they are confronted in any manner, they have no idea how to react other than to lash out.

    There are crazy white people out there also like the kid that just ran down a black guy with his pickup truck, for fun, one kid not a gang.. Our problems is that for decades a majority of black families have told their children, whitey is bad, don’t trust whitey. Pretty much like the muslims have taught their children to hate christians. The left also pulled every trick in the book to divide us..
    Be aware of your surroundings , don‘t go anywhere you shouldn’t and protect your loved ones because this violence will spread…

    I don’t get it. There were three punks in The Plaza, shooting at people. Were there police there? If so, why are the shooters still alive? The governments, local, state and federal, primarily exist to protect us from this crap. Anyone shooting innocent people in a shopping mall, has given up any rights they would have had before the incident. Two in the biggest target area available, front or back, it doesn’t matter if they have a gun in their hand.

      Where were the police? They were trying to do their jobs. How many police would we have to have for them to be able to be everywhere at once? How could we possibly afford to pay for that?

      The police are only there to clean up the mess afterward, and as a ‘deterrent’ to discourage law breakers. It’s up to you to protect yourself. Those are the “facts of life” that your father should have taught you.

      That’s a small part of why we have the 2nd Amendment, but only a small part. Criminals present a danger, and a greater one if they are organized. That danger is miniscule compared to what you face if the government itself ever goes bad. What would you do if they ever suspend the election process and declare martial law “for our protection”? What if, like Syria, they arrest or shoot people who protest? What could you, unarmed, do? That won’t happen here, unchallenged. Not while I’m alive. I take consolation in knowing that I’m not alone in having that sentiment.

      The flash mobs are just trying to put the principles of the U.S. Tax Code into “private practice”, anyway. Why should our government disapprove? Wouldn’t it be hypocritical for the government to say, “Do as I say, not as I do”? Haven’t we allowed the Public Education Monopoly to teach our children, for the past 40 years, that it’s OK to take what the rich have, just because they have more? Why are we surprised now, when the young act that out?

    England has thought about stopping their riots by disconneting the cell phones because the mobs text each other on where to meet and riot. Great idea. That is an option, another would be fire hoses, that worked in the 60′s, or rubber bullets and if all else fails, real bullets! That would do it.

When Blacks make up less than 15% of the population and committ more than 50% of the violent crime then we have a racial problem in this country Lemmings.       @Tech, ok, you need a little more edumacation. It’s not a black/white issue, it’s people like you that make it into that. It’s a parenting issue or lack there of. If it were a black/white issue, then there would be no Dr. Kings, Frederick Douglas’, Allen Wests, Herman Cains, Ryan Fraziers in the world. All whites would be Einstein right? There wouldn’t be any Oslo shootings, Oklahoma bombings, Casey Anthonys or Adolf Hitlers. Are you suggestions that evil picks a race? 73% of what race has single parent families? Blacks. Why? Is it because black folks are incapable of being parents? I doubt that, I bet Allen West has wonderful parents. We‘ve replaced parent’s with government paychecks. We’ve replaced the Ten Commandments in our schools with social justice. We’ve replaced critical thinking with “not hurting the child’s confidence by passing them onto the next grade.” Society has created this and now society wants to make it a black/white issue. So in other words I feel your comments are garbage dashed with ignorance. There are plenty of wonderful caring black folks that only want to help others and not hurt them, and a lot of them will vote the same way you do. You’ve seen for yourself on theblaze.com where some leaders of the black community are speaking out against it now. Will it have immediate impact? Of course not, but our society didn’t create this problem last night.

      @Tech Also, let‘s say your right and I’m wrong. What can be done to fix the problem? Should we pull Marcus Garvey from his grave and get the back-to-Africa movement going again. Or would you rather pull Adolf from his grave. I’m not afraid of the truth, you just don’t understand the truth. You miss the big picture and I don’t have the time to explain all of it to you just keep reading,and educating yourself and someday it’ll click. :) If you think that evil picks it’s prey by skin color then you need to keep learning.

      That said, I won‘t argue that the Wisconsin incident wasn’t racially motivated. I know there are evil blacks that want to hurt whites for that sole purpose. But in turn there are whites that want to hurt blacks. Does that make one race worse then the other? Evil is evil pure and simple, and evil has nothing to do with chromosomes. :)

      @Lemmings4Obama, you come across like a typical liberal with your excuse making. When a person commits a criminal act then what he really lacks is morality. So when you have a group of people that commit the majority of crime, then it’s not incorrect to state that the group has a high percentage of immmoral people. If one race (Blacks) is much more immoral than others, then yes, we have a race problem. Using your poor logic, we could say that America didn’t really have a race problem in the 1950s because not all Whites were racist. Or maybe we didn’t even have a slavery problem, since most Whites didn’t own slaves and some Blacks were free. Hopefully, you can see the flaw in your thinking.

      Sagat: You obviously nailed the point but I put in the statistic to make the point which you made and he just glossed righ tover it like it did not exist. I actually do not even believe that statistic really represents the real magnitude of the problem. I think it’s really much worse. That stat came from the 2007 FBI stats.

      Look lemmings, we all know that there are some superb moral blacks and gosh darn awful evil whites; however, we have to deal with averages and generalities. If I told you dog A was 25 times more violent than dog B then you probably wouldn’t be purchasing dog B if you had small children? I will not patronize you too much with such simple logic but it’s truly a shame that I have to spell it out for you at all. That borders on extreme ignorance. Scary ignorance.

      Like I said just man up! You can do it. You don’t have to be ashamed to tell the truth.

While I hate the term being used so loosely, I can now see how some people from the other side of the aisle view threads like this and call the Tea Party racists. I mean I’m on your side explaining how government hand outs have ruined the black community, and I’m getting thrown under the bus for NOT thinking that since they are black they will inherently do evil.       @Tech Aahh, now we are getting somewhere. It‘s not that I’m “simple minded’ or ignorant but I fail to think in generalizations. “We” don’t have to deal in generalities, but you can if you wish. I judge people by the content of their character, not but what race, sex, or ethnicity they are.
      Great analogy and your point is understood. The problem with your reasoning sir, is that it doesn’t offer any solutions. Anyone can play the blame game, but that is a game for the left. If we want to have open discussions then we need to be open minded and maybe, possibly even discuss solutions.
      For simplicity let’s call your dog A a Pit Bull and dog B a Chihuahua. Now, for analogies sake eliminate the parent and the children because that doesn’t compare well. So we‘ll have Pit Bulls that have been bred for violence represent blacks and Chihuahuas that really can’t hurt anything if they try represent whites. Now they have to stay in the same pin and we can‘t have a bunch of dead Chihuahuas lying around so what’s the solution? The only solution I can see with your line of reasoning is to exterminate the Pit Bulls because then all the Chihuahuas will be ok, after all the violence is in the Pit Bulls genes right? Maybe Adolf Chihuahua can rise up and get rid of all the problematic Pit Bulls that are holding their dog society back.
      So in my humble opinion I stand by my words, that it all comes down to parenting aka training for the dog society.

    Mark my words: Obama is allowing these disenfranchised youth to grow more and more plentiful because they will be offered “relief” by joining the new civilian “Army.” You know….the one that is going to be just as well funded as the US Army. They will then see the government as their “Savior” and will be able to funnel their anger and desire for retribution into more “healthy” outlets.

      It has nothing to do with their race but everything to do with lack of male role models. 73% of blacks born today are born into single parent families, I don‘t have the stats but you know as well as I do that the majority aren’t single fathers. When boys don’t have a male figure to “straighten them out” when they get out of line, they’ll walk all over their mom. Or they find their own role model who is a gang banger/drug dealer/thief etc. Even teenage girls will do it if the mom is a push over. When you replace a father with a check from the government it’s just a matter of time before the youth of that society get out of hand. Doesn‘t matter if it’s blacks, whites, greens or purples.

      So, why do you think that 73% of blacks are raised without a positive male figure at home? Could it be a culture that is espoused by a particular race? Are 73% of Caucasians, Hispanics, Asians, Cape Verdeans born into a fatherless household?

      See, there’s a chain of causality that can be followed back to the source of any problem. You, yourself, have illustrated the links in that chain for this particular issue, but somehow, you can’t bring yourself to follow it to the end. Stop with the ridiculous PC argument against the reality of it. Once we can agree on the real cause, we can work together to find a real solution.
