‘Morning Joe’ Elevates Jon Huntsman — But Not a Word About Herman Cain

It was a busy weekend for potential GOP Presidential candidates:
- Mitch Daniels sent his regrets via email late Saturday night.
- Tim Pawlenty made his candidacy official via the online ad that also took a few shots at President Obama.
- In front of an enthusiastic, hometown crowd of 15,000+ Herman Cain made his announcement in an inspiring speech at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, GA. (TheBlaze covered the announcement and the entire speech is also posted here.)
Most of this was not lost on the folks at MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
The opening segment of Monday’s MoJoe (also replayed at 8am) was all about the newest GOP candidates. Well, almost all of them. The crew spent considerable time singing the praises of Jon Huntsman, questioning Mitch Daniels’ midnight email, while completely ignoring the Cain announcement. Why? We present the clip so you can review for yourself.
(CONTENT WARNING: This clip contains the usual Mika eye-rolling, and NY Times financial writer Andrew Ross Sorkin being asked a question about Huntsman, but he thinks they are still talking about Tim Pawlenty.)
The journalists at MSNBC must have missed the latest data from the polls. A Zogby survey taken earlier this month confirms viability of Herman Cain as a candidate:
Herman Cain trails only Chris Christie as the top choice among Republican primary voters in the race for the 2012 Presidential nomination. Mitt Romney ranks fourth, but voters see him as the most likely nominee by a wide margin over the rest of a 13-person field.
Gallup’s polling data shows that Cain may not have the name recognition of the top three candidates, but those who do know him have a powerful response to a Mr. Cain.
So why why why, especially on the Monday following his announcement in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd, why is MSNBC blind to Herman Cain’s candidacy? Playing the Race Card here would be easy. So I won’t do it.

Posted on May 23, 2011 at 10:33amIf the drive-by media is ignoring candidates, those are the ones I will pay closest attention to. They are not in the mushy-comprimising middle (the Nancy Pelosi “shared values theory”). They have principles, both economically and socially (yes I said it…socially) which matter and are filled with common sense.

Posted on May 23, 2011 at 12:24pmI agree… why not give respect to those who have actually thrown their hat in the ring and have put themselves courageously on the line. Then, if someone else gets in, that can be respected too. The Republican machine is ticking me off — they don’t like being usurped by the people any more than the dems do. …It’s why we NEED to do it. Prove to BOTH parties, WE will pick our candidate, from amongst those who have the guts to get in because THEY have a fire to do so, not because the “machine” has anointed them. Pawlenty, Cain, Santorum, Paul, Johnson, though I have my favorite still have my respect for getting out there and laying it on the line. I will respect THEM first! The Republican machine should respect US.

I was thorughly uplifted and really inspired by his intelligence, understanding and ability to communicate his vision and message. Here is a candidate that I believe we really need to check further into and seriously consider backing. If he is the one to back, and I am hoping he is, we all must show the republican hirarchy that, “ name recognition” is easily achieved if the messanger is correct and worthy. Herman Cain seems to be more than qualified.

Posted on May 23, 2011 at 11:41amoh STOP already…this trojan horse thing is pathetic and getting so so old. Either you simply forgot your Ron Paul 2012! signature ..or you’re a troll . You aren‘t correct on Cain’s stand on affirmative action. So most likely you aren’t correct on anything about him.
“Cain is adamantly pro-life. He is anti-affirmative action. He stood against an extension of prescription-drug benefits, noting that the benefit was bound “to become another massive entitlement program that is destined to fail and burden the next generation;” and he has stated his dedication to the Second Amendment, to Social Security reform, and to abolishing the current tax code. It appears, as Cain himself noted in a Washington Post article this weekend, “If you want to define conservative, I’ll spell it for you: C-A-I-N.”

It wasn’t “long ago” that Herman Cain made his comments defending the private bank called the Federal Reserve that he worked for. It was just this past January.
I don’t know if he was at the Fed when he made those comments, but that wouldn‘t give me any better feeling about him if he modified his views because he didn’t want to lose his job while America is tanking to Federal Debt.
I doubt it he has any valuable experience with the Fed, considering he wants to return to a gold standard without abolishing the Fed. And after seeing Tim Geithner (another Fed lackey) hold Congress hostage to a debt limit increase and threaten a default, I think that argument is pretty much a non sequitur.
It’s up to you to find out about Ron Paul by doing your own research. Ron Paul is crystal clear on aspects of any policy you wish to know his views on. All you have to do is seek the information and pay attention to the words coming out of his mouth.
His electability speaks for itself. He has been reelected 11 times, and Herman Cain has morphed to try to fit Ron Paul’s stance politically expediently. He is a Federal Reserve plant.
