Mother Dies After Being Shot 7 Times and Having Baby Stolen in Kidnapping Plot

SPRING, Texas (The Blaze/AP) — The parking lot of a pediatric center near Houston was the scene of fatal abduction Tuesday, but not for the 3-day-old infant who was kidnapped. Kala Marie Golden, mother of Keegan, was leaving the center where she was shot up to seven times and her son snatched.
Although, Keegan was found alive and relatively well, Golden died after paramedics tried to save her. This morning, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that Verna McClain has been arrested and charged with capital murder.
Witnesses say an argument broke out between Golden and another woman as Golden left Northwoods Pediatric Center in Spring on Tuesday afternoon with her newborn Keegan. The woman shot Golden up to seven times and snatched the baby from her arms before driving away in a blue or light green Lexus, according to witness accounts. Some reports say Keegan was taken from his carseat.
The Houston Chronicle has a more detailed account of the kidnapping and murder. It states Golden, whose married name could be Schuchardt, followed the woman who took Keegan even after being shot and tried to enter the vehicle to retrieve him but was hit by the car as it sped away.
Ligon said McClain’s statement to investigators indicate the shooting was part of a wider plan to kidnap any child and that Golden was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“There were statements as indicated in the arrest record that were made by Ms. McClain that led us to believe that, in fact, this was an intentional act on her part,” Ligon said. “Not that Ms. Golden was targeted specifically, but that this was part of a plan to kidnap a child.”
He made no mention of a man whom witnesses said they saw in the Lexus that was blood stained on the driver’s side.
Keegan was found unharmed Tuesday evening. Ligon says Child Protective Services are looking after him but that they expect the baby to soon be reunited with his father, Keith Schuchardt.

The Montgomery County Police Reporter has more details on McClain’s possible motive and states she also confessed to the incident:
At an earlier date she told her sister she would be adopting a child soon. After the shooting and kidnapping she contacted her sister and told her she now had the child and would need to do the adoption.
McClain has no prior record and is a licensed vocational nurse registered in the State of California since 2008.
Golden’s mother, Linda Golden, told the AP that she had been baby-sitting another of Kala‘s sons when someone at the scene called her using her daughter’s cellphone. She rushed to the clinic but was unable to see her daughter because paramedics were trying to save her.
“I wanted to kiss her before they put her in the ambulance,” Linda Golden said.
Ligon wouldn’t say where the infant was found, but he said it wasn’t at a nearby apartment complex raided by officers wielding guns and riot shields Tuesday evening. Spring is about 20 miles north of Houston.

Joshua Jesson said he was at the clinic with his girlfriend when he heard gunshots. He said he saw a Lexus next to the pickup truck, then later looked back and saw the car was gone and a woman lying in the spot where the Lexus had been parked.
“I thought she just passed out. Then somebody ran in here and said, `Somebody got shot,’” he said.
Police quickly surrounded the clinic and much of the parking lot with crime-scene tape, and yellow markers were placed next to a purse and pair of brown sandals near a red pickup truck. Spent ammunition also was nearby.

Linda Golden described her daughter as sweet-natured and kind.
“We went everywhere together and did everything together,” she said.
She said she had no idea what could have sparked the slaying and abduction.
“That‘s the hardest she’s ever fought,” Linda Golden said. “She died trying to save her baby.”

Second this crime in my opinon was commited out of pure hate,kill the mother then do what ever you please to the child. This pos black crak head needs to be strung up in public and skinned alive, the media will spin this a her being psycotic and wanting a baby,but thats b/s. A black woman with a black baby, um yea right,when have you ever seen that?

It was a black attack on a white woman and a white baby was stolen. How much more are we going to put up with before we get our own gangs and retaliate? This is a racial attack and a hate crime. It will never be called one. Can any of you remember reading about any black attack on white people being labeled a “hate crime”? It is obvious. We don’t have rights in this country.

People get all upset when the race card is played unless it is for the benefit of their side. If you want to be an equal society, all players have to be color blind. If you can’t have your mom, then the best thing is knowing she loved you enough to fight for you and loved you with her last breath. God bless this family, it will be tough for them to go through this, hope the baby’s dad is a stand up guy and father. Glad Texas knows what to do to cold blooded murderers.
