Mother Upset After Hooters Waitress Invited to Speak at Fla. School

Mother Upset After Hooters Waitress Invited to Speak at Fla. School

One parent was angered after a Hooters waitress was a guest speaker for a career day event at her son's school.

A Florida mother is upset that a Hooters waitress was a guest speaker at her son’s school Thursday during an annual event where members of the community come and talk to students about their careers.

“It’s just the wrong message,” Ashley Dominicci, whose son is in sixth grade at Calvin A. Hunsinger School in Clearwater, told the St. Petersburg Times. “I feel like we’re telling them [the students] that you’re the bad kids, and this is all you’ll be in life.”

The waitress, Brittany Morgan, said she wasn’t trying to recruit any of the middle or high school students she spoke to or telling them to become Hooters servers.

“I was telling them about professionalism,” she told Tampa Bay’s WTSP-TV. “Everyone was very nice and they seemed happy for me to be there.”

Morgan noted she came to the school dressed in a sweatsuit, as opposed to the franchise’s signature tight-fitting T-shirt, and told the Times she also talked about the company’s opportunities for young women and about looking presentable on the job.

She said she understood why Dominicci was upset and that she respects her opinion.

“But I’m confident there was nothing wrong with my presentation,” she said. “Most of us [Hooters waitresses] are going to school. We’re aspiring to do other things in life. This isn’t our career.”

Dominicci maintained she wasn’t “knocking waitresses.”

“They’re very hard-working,” she said. “My point is, these kids should have higher goals.”

The school’s principal, Stephanie Bessette, did not return a call to the St. Petersburg Times but said in an email to Dominicci that some aspiring teachers work as waitresses to pay for school, and other teachers do so to supplement their incomes.

“Working as a waiter or waitress in order to achieve higher goals should be commended,” Bessette wrote.

Morgan said she likes working with children and plans to return to college to get her degree.

The flap comes after parents in Compton, Calif. were outraged after former porn star Sasha Grey read to elementary school students as part of a national reading program.

I agree.. I can say this one of my fav quotes from the bible “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. Goodness, I have made my share of mistakes in my life. But when it comes to helping the community I do my best. Why judge a person what they do for a living. Yet it looks like that is what we are doing so many times. Should look at the fact at least she thought enough of the youth to go talk to them to many dont!!!!!! so Step up and help or shut up:)

My first job was handprinting signs in the warehouse portion of JCPenny’s for .25 over minimum wage. My husband‘s first job was flipping hamburgers at McD’s. After 4 years in the Navy, in a job that had no civilian equivilant, I was handpacking cases through ManPower at Proctor and Gamble. There are still Americans who will do those jobs. If they don‘t listen to the brainwashing of the liberals that it’s below them.

Every person with founded goals in life should speak to youngsters about the residuals of education and the concept of seeking knowledge.
After all, they are our future

With that said, there are far better food establishments then Hooters if the desired food is Buffalo wings. And yes, young attractive cheerful lasses prancing around like gazelles in scant attire more then makes up for the lack of palatable nutrition.

Have you ever watched Dirtiest Jobs? I’ve had a few jobs like that. Until I was able to qualify for a position in my chosen career, I would do just about anything to survive. In those days, one did not go back home after you made the leap, and I made the leap early.

Nothing wrong with Hooters as a stepping stone. You don’t have to go there. But they must have something going on because they have continued to rank high amongst the industry’s growth leaders in the industry.

The reality is, some kids will work in labs developing drugs, some kids will be drug addicts, some will excel and others will fail. We will need some to work at Hooters. However, it won’t be my kid!

Certainly a school should strive to have the apotheosis of human success on display. There definitely should be more emphasis on science, math and engineering. But society needs much more than that to function. To display a girl working honorably instead of begging for government benefits is no ignominy at all.

The notion that it is shameful, particularly for young people, to be working at stepping stone positions is foolhardy and even seditious. Would you rather have only immigrants do these jobs and hasten your dwindling to minority status, while your white children collected government benefits? That is a recipe for calamity, both financially and socially. Both the engineer and the waitress should be welcome at school by society.

Hooter girls show more than what you would see in a business or commercial setting generally. It is a free co8untry. Go for it. Don;t show up at a HS & say it is the same as every other waiter or waitress. If it were they would have waitresses over 30, or 40 years of age. So whatever.

Most waitresses (in any restaurant) have stronger moral fiber and are less likely to be taken advantage of than the average receptionist. Whether it be Hooters or the local Perkins, they are aware that human nature will make men do and say stupid things. They are in full control and know when a situation escalates to potential problem status. Never underestimate how many transferable skills waiters/waitresses gain while employed in the food service business.

Okay you don‘t want your daughter to get a job at Hooter’s. We get that, but once your daughter is out of your household, you do not have any say what she does. You may have influence, but she will take what jobs suits her goals.

Do I see anything wrong with this young woman coming to the school and talking about her job, I am torn between Yes and No. I say Yes because Hooter‘s is known for exploiting a woman’s body to attrack male patrons. I say No, because waitressing is a hard job and you can make good money working at the right location, she is also attending college which is telling the kids that if you decide to work while attending school, this could be one of those “starter’ jobs that gives you the flexibilty to work and attend college at the same time.

I have eaten at Hooter’s before and I actually enjoyed the food. Is it a place I go often, no. It has been about five years or longer since I went there.

No indication the busybody in question has a girl child. The story clearly opens stating “a waitress was a guest speaker at her son’s school.” Now, if her son wants to be a Hooters waitress, this story is scratching the surface of a more troubling concern. If Ashley Dominicci‘s lil’ man wanted to be a Hooters waitress, we’d then be subjected to the PC crowd applauding this brave boy/girl and his/her “can do” attitude.
This story is stupid. It once again reveals how neurotic and repressed we tend to allow others to make us. Hooters isn’t generallya good or bad… it’s a smart idea that recognizes a basic truth regarding the male of the species: We like to be in the presence of attractive females. But in our emasculated, militantly feminist, PC mandated prudishness, any action or site that allows a man to acknowledge that some women are more attractive than others is anathema… because men should be neutered and beaten down into their place.
I respect the guy or gal who picks up my garbage in the bitter cold, those who deliver letters and parcels to my home, and those who make and serve my food. If they’re doing their job as expected, my life is easier. Oh, and it helps if your waitress doesn’t look like one of those 12 sandwich eating cows seen on the likes of Bridezilla.
Rail on busybodies! Show the world it can’t just be left alone at times and that, yes, you ARE better than the rest of us!

@ 65Mustang and other like minded posters

There is a demand for a restaurant where people can go for lunch or dinner and be served by refreshing, good looking women, instead of the overweigh slobs roaming the streets. In our free market capitalist country this demand is met by Hooters. Also in this free country you have the right to not go there if a pair of orange shorts and a white tank top is too much for you to handle. I guess your daughter is not allowed to go to the beach without being fully clothed. This is America, most of us in this county can go to Hooters or the beach and see women in shorts and a tank top or a bathing suit and not whine and cry like a little queer. It sounds as if you would enjoy Pakistan where women are forced to be clothed head to toe because folks like yourself lack self control. I mean really, shorts and a tank top, for God’s sake man, grow a pair.

Yes, kids should have high goals, but this has become the problem with America today. They pump the kids full of high expectations of society, and then when reality smacks them in the face, they whine and complain like the OWS bunch. I got so sick of hearing the “Go to college and get a $100K job when you graduate” line in HS. You have to start somewhere and work up. Just because you have a degree doesn’t guarantee you a job.

There is a Hooters in my town, and most of the girls there are college students. They will tell you the job is fun, but not a career. It‘s like McD’s, BK, DQ, etc. A stepping stone to pay the bills.

I’m 42, so the expectation out of college was not $100k. However, about 5 years ago, I met a young woman who actually believed that everyone makes $100k right out of college! This is very disturbing as most PhD‘s don’t make that out of college, and I myself after being laid off of $100k job took a job for less than half that when I couldn’t find anything better.

Unfortunately, most kids these days believe everything their teachers say. They have no critical thinking skills. Fifty years of union run school systems has its toll, and we are now reaping what we’ve sowed… it’s called OWS.

Why is it so bad to work at Hooters? It is just another job. They certainly wear more than people at the beach. Heck, I see more skin at the YMCA. She has a job. She is working hard and has higher ambitions in life. I see this complaint as one of America’s biggest problems. This theory that you should only have a “professional” job. America not only needs white-collar jobs, but also servers, plumbers, ditch-diggers, farmers, factory workers, etc. All the “dirty” blue collar jobs. Work is GOOD for America. This theory that certain jobs are unworthy is just ridiculous. I applaud those who do the work others look down on. Much better than collecting benefits for doing nothing. She is proud to be a hard working American. It is a stepping stone for her. I see no problem holder her as an example.

Who knows how much hooters pays a waitress? I can say I met a girl about a week ago at a football game. The girl owns her own house (brand new construction 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths on over 1/4 acre of land) has a 401k and is only 27 years old and in school. She’s single. Her only downfall was her last boyfriend stole her credit cards to pay for his college. So she had to pay that off. She bought her one house because she was sick of her family always moving because they didnt have money so she saved her money.

Oh yeah she works for a burger joint.

Come on now this is going to far. She’s a pretty girl working for a restaurant. I took my friends 7 yr old son to hooters as a reward for spelling elodea and cabamba on his first grade spelling test.

It was funny one of the waitresses asked why he was there. He saw the ad on TV and wanted to go. I asked his parents and they said it was okay. So we went and had a burger and he got to meet a couple pretty girls. Another waitress asked about him being there and I said I don’t want him to by shy around people I want him to understand and respect people but fear no one.

A short time later 2 girls came by and asked if it was okay if he could take a tour of the kitchen and kept him in plain site the whole time. He was excited, and guess what? He‘s in high school now has straight A’s and respects ladies and has had a few girlfriends and won’t just settle. The kid has his own mind.

Remarkable isn’t it. Teach kids at a young age to think for themselves, to reward them and they will be productive instead of sitting on their a$$ with their hand out begging for money um er pepper spray.

We used to take our kids to Hooters and all 3 grew up to be conservatives and were not mentally damaged by the “Hooter” girls. Those young ladies work very hard and, if they are good at what they do, can make a darn good income. Many are in school and not sucking the ‘hooters’ of the government, so lighten up. What kids see on TV is far worse.

A mother is upset because, as it sounds to me, a person has come to speak about working as a waitress while finishing her degree? Would the mother be happier if her child was spoken to by an OWS person?

With the high level of education kids are getting in public schools these days ,a Hooters job or something like it is about the best they can hope for . Now if they go onto college ,for a mere 80k they can get a high value degree in basket weaving.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. As you all know its beautiful women that are destroying the world. Something should be done about this. Only women who look like Janet Reno or Madeline Albright should be allowed to speak to our children. http://guerillatics.com

Dominicci needs to get a clue, Morgan (reportedly) WAS there to talk about doing and being more in life!!

Morgan states she was there to talk about professionalism, then shows up in a sweatsuit?!?! How about, at the very least, business casual?!

    They both need to reassess……

Brittany in a sweatsuit is still way better than Hillary in a pants suit. She is an enabler of Bill’s cheating and raping of women. She is not a good example.
This young lady works for a living, probably works hard, and probably struggles to save because of the theft of our Federal and State Government thieves.

If Madoff could explain why you don’t swindle people, it would be a good lesson for the children to learn. Madoff, unfortunately, is just sorry that he got caught and by many news accounts, he is enjoying the prison life because someone else is paying the bill for his lifestyle and probably pretty comfortable because many prisons have many amenities. Oh crap, maybe it isn‘t a good idea for him to speak because if one child decided to swindle people and go for many years to live a grand ole’ lifestyle and then get caught and live out their years in the lap of luxury, dont have Madoff speak to our youth. He is probably right now discussing strategy with an inmate that thinks he is a god.

that good looking women who use their mind and body to make money will get them attention. Sex sells man, always has always will. Americans want to make money, anyway they can. Think there is a donut shop drive thru in FL. that has topless women cashiers, they may like to talk to 6th graders about career choice. How about prostitutes, the oldest profession. Here is one, a house wife, stay at home mom. That might be appealing, long hours, little pay, multi tasking, organizational skills, values, morals, no that would be to boring, stay with the sex.
